About Addiction Recovery Systems

You’ll find Addiction Recovery Systems in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This CARF accredited outpatient clinic was established in 2004 and welcomes adults battling substance use disorder. You’ll benefit from tailored opioid addiction treatment to start or continue your recovery journey.

You can access intensive and standard outpatient programs while living at home and tending to other responsibilities. You’ll find treatment for multiple substance use disorders including medication assisted treatment.

This approach uses FDA approved medications like Suboxone and Vivitrol to alleviate withdrawal symptoms that come with quitting substances. You’ll also participate in individual, group and family counseling to get to the root of addiction. You’ll benefit from flexible treatment options including early morning dosing.

Culturally Competent Care

What stands out most to me is they offer services in Spanish. You can access a culturally competent environment that accounts for language barriers. You’ll have an inclusive space to engage in treatment fully. You’ll benefit from a safe place to express your needs and feel heard and understood.

Personalized Recovery Options

I also think it’s great that they offer a variety of treatment options. If you’re interested in medication assisted treatment then they provide methadone, Suboxone or Vivitrol. You can also participate in outpatient care without medications. I think this is great because they acknowledge that treatment looks different for everyone and one approach won’t work for everyone.

I ve been at ARS for a two or three years now. I stopped coming and recently restarted. I love my counselor and I have no issues with the front desk staff though they seem to have a high turnover rate. Don t have any issue with the nurses per se though many that have been there when I started are no longer there. The process of getting dosed seems to have gotten worse. When I first came there, it could be 30 people in the queue and they d get through in like 20-30 minutes. Now, it can be 5-6 people in the queue and you can be sitting there for 30-45 minutes sometimes an hour. It really sucks when you have to catch a bus. It would be nice if they had a nurse just for daily dosers so you don t get caught missing a bus behind 5 people who have a ton of take homes and you just want to get in and get out. Also, the people tend to not pay attention to their number being called which adds to the time or they go out and smoke (which I do too) but don t keep in mind where they are at in line but now it s like you can be up next and it takes them FOREVER to get to you. I ve just barely caught the bus and just missed busses then having to wait around for another 45 minutes to an hour to get the next one. And now they re only open on Saturday from 7-9am. It s a small window to get there when the buses run every hour on Saturday. Meaning you either have to catch an early bus and wait for them to open or there s only 2 busses you can catch to get there and if you miss the 8am bus OR the bus is late or broken down or whatever, you miss your weekend dose AND two days. Or you have to uber. If I work on Fridays from 10p to 8am, that means I will ALWAYS miss a Saturday unless I leave work early which may not even be possible. How am i supposed to maintain sobriety with a two hour window to get my dose on a day where you have to be there to get your next days dose because they re closed. I get closing early on Saturday but 7-9, wtf kinda change is that?!

I am sorry to hear that you experienced an inconvenience with the dosing process. There are sometimes discrepancies depending on the number of bottles that need to be filled for each patient. We typically take patients in on a first-come, first-served basis, but we can look into adjusting that process. If coming in on a Saturday is difficult for you, you could discuss other options with your counselor. Your feedback is valuable to us in improving our services.

Dr. Pearce is the best, he knows his stuff and really cares about you if you take the program seriously. The girls at the desk are the best and always have great attitudes even though they deal with ignorant, disrespectful drug addicts all day.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Traditional outpatient counseling requires attendance once a week while “intensive outpatient programs” require attendance of three or four times per week.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This place has its ups and downs and being that i was a patient for 6 years I was livid when I was kicked off of the methadone maintenance program they offer due to not meeting my deductible with insurance. I was compliant in all other ways including being clean of my doc and anything else for 3 years. I understand that there’s policies but I wish there could be something else patients like me could’ve done to prevent a relapse after this kind of scenario (if you’re on methadone you know exactly what I’m talking about when it comes to switching to other MAT options after methadone) I indeed did have a brief relapse after this taper and being done with the program, not 100% their fault, but I just wish other things could’ve been set in place or gotten help and better resources to help me so I didn’t feel like relapsing was my only option to be able function. Although my experience wasn’t amazing I still wouldn’t tell someone else to not go through them if they’re looking for options to receive help. Good to anyone reading this and I hope you find the help you’re seeking 🫶🏻

This is a wonderful place for counseling even if you're not getting on methadone. I think there's a lot of ppl who would never reach out to ARS simply bc they provide methadone maintenance and they have some really amazing counselors that help keep you on track to stay clean no matter what your durg of choice is.

I’ve been a client here since 4/13/2010. There’s been good and bad within that timeframe but two things I do know is 1. This program works as long as you actually want to get clean and stay that way. And 2. You have to advocate for yourself because no one is going to do it for you. Everyone deserves to live a normal productive life, even addicts. Sometimes certain individuals within this company need to be reminded that we are people too, we are not just a number.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you, Donna for taking the time review our program. Please continue to advocate for yourself and being honest in this review. If there is anything else that we can do to improve your experience here at ARS please feel free to reach out to us. You can always reach out to us on our chat line as well located on our website. It is linked directly to our staff.<br><br>Thanks,<br>ARS
