I am not condemning Corewell as a whole (because they have a nearby Urgent Care which is outstanding), but this hospital has some major issues. To be fair there are some good staff at this hospital, and there are also some experiences that can be positive (eg some outpatient tests). However, their ER tends to be very bad in most cases. But the worst thing is if you stay here for days. Be prepared to die. My dad died in this hospital a couple of years ago, they did not clean and sanitize properly, he did not die from his original ailment but rather from a secondary infection he caught while staying in there. They did not move him to the area they were supposed to, but instead moved him to an unrelated unit where a bed was available, where I believe they knew the previous patient had a highly contagious infection. They also never told us my dad had that infection, we discovered it ourselves from obtaining the medical records and thoroughly reviewing them, so they do cover things up. I can speak to 2023 and literally pages of different complaints I had then about this place. Judging from the reviews, not much has improved since.

Father in law went in with very bad stomach pains and after running a couple “tests” for 7 hours, they told him everything was ok! He does dialysis and has a catheter in so we thought it was an infection of some kind. Took him to uofm hospital for a second opinion and within 2 hours they found TWO infections in his stomach cavity…. And core well sent him home with that! Don’t wait for a second opinion and just automatically skip this hospital! They have no idea what they’re doing clearly!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Clients receiving care at an outpatient rehab remain in their own homes and attend treatment as often as daily, depending on the level of need. Outpatient care generally consists of psychotherapy, addiction education, life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many outpatient treatment centers provide step-down care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living, and standard outpatient services. Some outpatient rehabs also offer ambulatory medical detox and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Personalized therapy sessions for drug addiction emphasize understanding your background and behavioral triggers for substance use. Your therapist will collaborate with you to create an effective coping strategy and address underlying issues that clear the way for lasting change.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Both internal and external factors can put stress on a relationship. Couples therapy helps you and your partner work through those stressors and find healthy ways to deal with challenges as they arise.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

Recreational therapy helps to build healthy habits and discover new interests that can reduce your cravings and your exposure to alcohol and drug triggers. Activities may include physical fitness, gardening, group games, and team sports. These promote relaxation, improve your mood, and encourage social interaction. Each of these is crucial to sustain long term recovery.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

I went to the Wound Care Unit and it was the most pleasant facility that I have been to in my recent hospital visits. From the receptionist to the wonderful Nurse Karen to Dr. Patel, it was taken from my dreaded anxiety to an enjoyable experience. And also not to be forgotten, Ms.Meriah Heap was an outstanding balance with her whimsical humor and contagious smile!

I had a mri appt today I had to be here at 8am for my 830 appt. I checked in at 745am when I had to check in myself . I'm a bit upset with how you check people in . When they told me to check in myself it did not take my check in . I did not know that so I sat waiting for my appointment . It came to be 915am and everybody that was here before me had already been called. They people that came in after me have all been called ahead of me. Which is not Good to me. I have fibromyalgia and can't sit for long times it is now 950 am and I still have not been seen for my Mri . This really makes me want to change my insurance carrier so I can avoid corewell health hospitals. 11-212025 950 am Still sitting in waiting room over 2 hours of waiting . I asked to talk to someone and was told to wait for the manager to come out.then a lady came back and said sorry she's not here now and gave me a number to call. I called the number and no answer . Left a message and still no call back .

I usually don't do reviews but reading a lot of the negative reviews from people I think is completely unwarranted and some seem to be just from people who don't put themselves in the position of healthcare workers. So I want to give a review on someone who's been using this hospital for over 20 years who has a child with a chronic illness. This place has been a lifesaver for my son and honestly I don't know if my son would even be here today if not for the caring nurses who give my son encouragement and smile every time they enter his room. And unfortunately you are going to get nurses from here or there who are not going to seem very pleasant but you got to consider the long hours they work and some of the patients that they deal with on a daily basis. But I'm very grateful for every single nurse who has been there for my son and for me through our time of need. (edit) Dr Ahmad is horrific. He knows absolutely nothing whats going on. my son has to have a Nurse call him to have the doctor call him just so my son can update the doctor. Something he should already know. The miscommunication is atrocious. He had no clue the procedures my son had done. Now their saying he has to stay because the case manager has to do his prescriptions and she is gone for the day even though they knew yesterday about prescriptions after his dyalsis tech (in the hospital) did something to his arm port causing a blood clot when they put the needle in his arm. Seems like now their milking him and using excuses to keep him admitted to the hospital. They canceled the appointment to have his arm looked at then rescheduled so he has to stay longer. Whats happening? Was it done on purpose so he has to stay longer? Not to be a complainer but something is not right.

Response from the owner
