About Care Resource Community Health Centers

Care Resource Community Health Centers offers primary, medical, dental and behavioral health care services for clients of all ages at locations across Florida. This includes their Fort Lauderdale location, where they provide outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling services. They accept self pay and private insurance and have a sliding fee scale for the uninsured. Some of their services are covered by grant funding and are available free of charge.

At this site, you can participate in individual, group, and family counseling services. I like that they offer different programs for people who are struggling with mental health issues and those who have substance use disorders. Their mental health counseling program focuses on people who are living with or affected by HIV or AIDS. During their sessions, they’ll learn how to adjust to their diagnosis and improve their relationships.

Their substance abuse counseling program addresses both HIV and addiction related issues. During your sessions, you’ll learn how drug and alcohol use can put you at a greater risk of contracting a communicable disease like HIV. They realize that many people can benefit from both counseling programs and allow them to weave their treatments together.

A special feature at their center is that they have a program that helps you learn the skills you need to succeed in the job market. The program is called Individual Placement and Support and it shows you how to secure and maintain employment within your community. They work closely with local employers to learn about new openings and opportunities that will fit well with their clients.

I can’t say enough about how incredible my experience was with Eric Durden, Peer Specialist. From the very beginning, Eric went above and beyond to make me feel heard and supported. He took his time with every conversation, truly listened, and made sure I always felt comfortable and understood. Eric’s compassion and dedication are unmatched—he has a genuine gift for connecting with people and guiding them through even the most difficult moments. His patience, empathy, and professionalism shine through in everything he does. I honestly wouldn’t have wanted to work with anyone else. He is truly the best anyone could ask for. Eric is a huge asset to your team, and I sincerely hope his hard work and commitment are recognized and valued. The impact he’s had on my journey is something I’ll never forget. Thank you, Eric, for being exceptional at what you do!

This is the worst doctor's office that I've ever been to in my entire life. Once you get in to see the doctors they are great. Very good doctors. But actually getting in to see a doctor can take months and months. You wait on the phone for at least 45 minutes just to talk to an operator. They hang up on you several times. Disconnect you before you even speak to anyone. If you need a referral, the referral specialist is never there so you have to leave her messages. She may get back to you 3:00 or 4:00 or 5 weeks later. Maybe. If you choose the option of having them call you back the same day they never do. It takes 3 or 4 days of continually calling all day long off and on getting disconnected. Calling back, getting disconnected. Calling back and maybe you might speak to someone and maybe you might get an appointment for maybe 6 weeks from now. Do not go to this office. They are way too overcrowded and their office staff is way too limited or they don't know what they're doing or they don't care

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

During couples therapy in Florida, your therapist will take steps to get to know you, help you identify feelings, explore the past, develop solutions, and help you learn skills to manage relationship challenges. This process will allow you to work through conflict and strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

5/13 I was just notified that I needed to schedule an appointment to be medically cleared for surgery next week and I was scheduled for a 3:15 appt today but at 2pm, I got a call asking if I can come in earlier so I agreed and was at the office by 2:15. It is now 4:15 and I am still waiting to be seen! Wtf? Update: I was finally seen at 4:45 but the lab was closed so I was instructed to come in the following morning and everything was taken care of. I have been coming here for several years and never had a problem so this appears to be an anomaly so the rating is updated accordingly. I also appreciate the response from the office.

As always, it was another great visit at Care Resource Oakland Park and I want to especially thank Gueny Merard for all his help in navigating me through the insurance maze in order to get my PrEP medication issue resolved. I can always count on him and his team for explaining step by step what needs to be done!

Staff here is always very kind and efficient. Shelly and Shaqueta in the third floor lab do a spectacular job. One of the least painful blood draws I've had.

This was my first time at this location and I was extremely happy with the service provided. They did not keep me waiting long for my appointment and did not rush through it. They addressed all my concerned with patience and understanding. Shelly, who drew my blood, was amazing. She was so friendly, professional, and made me feel not only welcome but like she was happy I was there. Truly a great experience.

I also want to take a moment to recognize Matthew Graham, the Patient Care Assistant who helped with my intake. From the moment we began, Matthew was incredibly thorough—he took his time, asked all the right questions, and made sure no detail was overlooked. His professionalism and attention to detail instantly put me at ease. On top of his excellent work ethic, Matthew’s personality was absolutely amazing. His warm demeanor and that charming accent made the entire experience feel more like a genuine conversation than a clinical process. He, too, is a major asset to this organization. While I was truly impressed by every staff member I encountered today, Eric Durden and Matthew Graham stood out in an exceptional way. I sincerely hope the company sees the incredible value they bring and considers giving them special recognition. Thank you both for making what could have been a stressful day feel so supported and seen.

I was placed at Care resource to receive help by the homeless task force it has been almost four years and I'm still homeless. Care resource is getting a grant for all the people registered with them. How many people do they have registered to receive help? Better yet of all the people registered for help actually receive it. I've been there for ⁴ years trying to get help

If you have no insurance or low income/ no income this place is a godsend. When you come as a new patient the front desk will have you fill out a short form so that you can receive discounted healthcare plan or pay on sliding scale. They are very professional, kind, patient, knowledgeable, and treat you with a sense of urgency and respect. Offers medical, dental, phych, and substance abuse treatment including a M.A.T. Program. I love what this place does for the community and the sense of unity, non judgement, and awareness.
