About Charak Center for Health and Wellness

Charak Center for Health and Wellness – Midway Blvd is a mental health and substance abuse treatment center in Elyria, Ohio. The center focuses on using the latest therapies and treatments and keeping its services affordable for its clients. Clients are able to receive telehealth therapy if they’re unable to receive treatment in person. They also accept walk ins and have therapy available for individuals, couples and children. Payment can be made through any insurance, as they accept all of them. Chakra Center has several accreditations from reputable organizations including the Mental Health and Addiction Advocacy Coalition and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Charak Center features a large staff at the facility that ranges from board certified psychologists to chemical dependency counselors. The main addiction they specialize in treating clients for is opiate dependence. Through their intensive outpatient program (IOP), they provide treatment services such as diagnostic assessments, individual and group psychotherapy and psychotropic medication management. They help clients overcome any underlying mental health issues causing addiction, including PTSD and bipolar disorder. In addition to the services available for clients, the facility provides family night groups for family members who have struggled with the client’s addiction.

When providing medication assisted treatment for clients, Charak Center uses Suboxone to help minimize withdrawal symptoms. One reason this facility chooses this drug is because patients are unable to become addicted to it, and it prevents them from experiencing the effects of abusing other drugs.

Clients can also expect to participate in the aftercare group. This takes place twice a week for 10 weeks, then once a week for 10 weeks. Clients then complete treatment with maintenance therapy once a month for a minimum of 20 weeks.

The Charak Center is the single worst facility I have ever interacted with. Phone calls are never answered live and never returned. I once left 7 messages and desperately needed an appointment and had to drive into the office just to schedule an appointment. Drug tests that they require and that I had to pay for were lost so critical medication was not sent to the pharmacy for me until I drove into the office yet again and paid for another. This happened twice. The staff does not care about you or your mental wellbeing and are dismissive and rude, again, only if you physically go in because they have literally never returned a phone call. My psychiatrist, Dr Shalini B, does not care if I live or die. I am just an appointment on her calendar standing between her and her paycheck. For me, getting medication is literally life or death and the Charak Center does not care if I die, they have made that perfectly clear, to my face.I would not recommend this place to anyone. They are the bottom of the barrel. They will not help you. They will only put up barriers between you and your treatment.

Absolutely don t go here. I ve been trying for months to get a hold of the front office. Then they have me shuffling between providers since my main dr had something lapse and until further notice when I was told it d be after a certain date. I now have to go through the stress of finding elsewhere to deal with my mental health. And this place if you do struggle mentally just makes it worse. The office doesn t answer. The other line is a hit or miss and it s made the whole things exhausting I was with my Dr for YEARS! and then they want to shuffle me around? Absolutely ridiculous and I will not deal with it again.

They transport my daughter daily to a adult center. They are so efficient, they contact me nightly to let me know who is picking her up and what time they will be arriving. The drivers will either text or call me 10 minutes ahead to be ready for pickup. Great staff they have, they go beyond the call if duty. My daughter thinks Paul and Leon are the best.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs offer robust wraparound care for clients who are stepping down from intensive inpatient care, with many facilities providing multiple levels of care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living/halfway housing, and standard outpatient programming. Clients may also elect to enroll in outpatient care immediately after completing inpatient detox. Those who are at lower risk of withdrawal complications may also choose to receive ambulatory medical detox from an outpatient facility. Outpatient programs typically involve addiction counseling, recovery education, and/or medication assisted treatment (MAT). Holistic therapies, such as art and music therapy, are commonly available.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for clients who need frequent, high-level care but do not require, or choose to forgo, inpatient treatment. Most intensive outpatient rehabs offer a minimum of nine hours of treatment weekly, though clients may receive up to 20 hours of care as needed. These programs typically combine various treatment modalities, including individual, group, and family counseling, medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction and recovery education, and evidence-based complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are designed to ensure clients receive continuing care while in the maintenance phase of recovery. Some clients may be in outpatient treatment, which is generally considered to be an element of drug rehab aftercare. The specific services provided in these programs are often determined by the client's case manager and care team in consultation with the client. Common services include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

Treatments

Treatment for drug and alcohol addiction addresses both the physical and the mental health impacts caused by a consistent supply of addictive substances. When addressing both an addiction and a mental health disorder simultaneously, a dual diagnosis treatment center is required. Staff are certified to deal with these complex conditions and equipped to deal with mental health emergencies that may occur.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Ohio may occur in individual, group, or family sessions. It involves focusing on specific thought and behavior problems. Participants learn coping techniques and are asked to practice them as homework between sessions.

Participants of group therapy sessions typically learn coping skills, communication techniques, and relapse prevention strategies. This unique set of skills helps you to navigate the challenges you find in the community and supports your long term sobriety.

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction treatment gives you a safe space to discuss your emotional, mental, and physical challenges. Your therapist will guide and support you as you collaborate to develop personalized strategies to manage your stress and navigate the challenges of your recovery.

With trauma therapy, you can reclaim your life after witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. Therapists help you process the memories, which promotes emotional healing and enables you to build resilience to navigate future challenges and triggers.

Life skills provide stability. They increase the strengths that you bring to recovery by equipping you with the tools you need to navigate daily life. During rehab, you'll develop these strengths through life skills training that focuses on both cognitive and behavioral abilities.

Recreational therapy supports recovery from drug and alcohol addiction by providing you with enjoyable activities that improve your physical and mental health. When you engage in sports, creative arts, and nature excursions, it helps reduce your cravings and stress levels while building a supportive community of peers who can help promote your long term sobriety.

It would be great if someone answered the phone or tells you when your phycologist leaves.

this place does not answer their phones. called at least 15 times myself and my husband another 10 .. no answer or call back. The voicemail box is also full. Apparently the worker up front "didn't hear" as she was doing homework and could visibly see the red dot blinking on the phone indicating voicemails. ridiculous.

Do not go here. They never call you back. It is a horrible place the Drs will reschedule on you but still bill your insurance. Then when you try to go somewhere else and need your medical rep from them they will charge you 30 dollars to get them.

They have doctors and case management, they are getting my son's mother in and helping her where no one else could for months she's even missed an appointment and they still got her in right away, she is an extreme case, but I've never seen someone go so far to help somebody, and I would recommend them to anybody it reminds me of what the Nord center used to be like 20 years ago.

The worse place ever I was seen by Serena. Everything was fine till she decided to take me off medications that where working. poor communication you never no one you have to follow up with anyone I missed a drug test because I was never told when to follow up on a medication that was only as needed. So when I tried to get a refill they change my medication and said it was because I didn't take a urine sample. But when I checked out I was not scheduled for any appointments or told when to return. When they change my medication and refuse to change it back my life has been hell. In and out of the hospital with bad depression panic attacks and anxiety. This has effected my job to the point I was just let go because I was either have a code blue called at my job or not being able to concentrate and focused on my job. It should really be an eye for an eye I lost my job and I am a single parent. If I cant get my mental health under control I will lose everything. But its not there problem. Don't waste your time on this place these people are a complete joke.

I have been a patient here for at least six months now. The prescribing psychiatrist is very nice. However, the Elyria office never contacts me After being assured I will receive a follow up call. If I call, I am either automatically shunted to voicemail or I’m left on hold until it again sends me to voicemail. I never manage to get an actual person. I am constantly running out of my medication because it’s simply not followed through. When I tried to use their in-house pharmacy. My prescriptions were left in a public area of my apartment complex or they were taken and delivered to the Elyria office where no one attempted to contact me about that or attempted to deliver again. It does not seem to matter if I use the phone or if I use their website. Zero communication. I am extremely frustrated with this place. I’ve never known a company to be this hard to get in touch with. And if you consider what they’re supposed to be doing then this is horrible way to treat a person. If you’re considering this place, then I sincerely suggest you go elsewhere.

Urgent Update: I have a medically challenged son who attended this facility for a while, and the experience was horrendous. They change counselors and case managers like putting on a pair of shoes and taking them off, which means my son could never connect with anyone. The staff here is horrible and not recommended at all. Note: I believe they work with the court systems, so they won't lose any money by putting people on probation and feeding them the pharmaceutical companies' dream drugs. This place is a nightmare clinic! Health, unwellness, and uncaring is what you’ll find here. The staff turnover is high, and they do not candy-coat it. Once you're assigned to a specific person, they have already left, using the center as a stepping stone to a better medical facility. The Charak Center is where they get you in, get you out, and don’t listen to your needs. Their focus is on how much Medicaid cash crop they can reap. **Urgent! Please look at other review sites like Yelp. This center is lucky they got one star.** During our visits, we spent a long time in the lobby. They have a colorful sign for schizophrenia that you end up staring at every time you visit. It’s a shame that this is the kind of environment they provide for those in need of genuine care. Although we haven’t been there for probably five years, the negative impact of our experience still lingers. I hope this review helps others make informed decisions about their care???????

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience. Each patient is assigned to a case manager at their initial visit, and we do everything in our power to schedule appointments with their assigned staff. However, there are times when hours conflict and a patient may need to see someone new. Every patient is unique and handles these situations differently. We would like the opportunity to respond appropriately to your concerns. Please give us a call so that we can address this situation immediately. Thank you.

This place is an absolute disaster and freaking shady scam. Not only did they conceal from me that I'd be required to take a $114 drug test EVERY MONTH (to test for controlled substances *that they are prescribing!*) to have my ADHD and Insomnia rX's sent to the pharmacy, but it has been impossible to reach anyone at their office by phone for weeks now and I'm being harassed by their outsourced laboratory with no way to resolve that bill. This is on top of horrendous experiences with two providers at Charak. The first accepted me as a new client despite knowing she was leaving the practice, forcing me to see a new psych at the office the next month, but then the second psych very rudely judged and lectured me for my having a maximum of 1-2 alcoholic drinks per month, if any. How dare I consume alcohol responsibly as a grown woman! I did not appreciate being lectured like I was an unruly child. -.- The appointment time I was given was incorrect, leading me to waiting awkwardly at one of their computers (with a nasty mouse and keyboard, btw) in a room at their office for 45 minutes for what I was eventually told would be a telehealth appointment? In office? Wtf? I had to literally call another Charak location to figure out how the hell to pay my bill. They said the Elyria location is a constant embarrassment and that I would have to go to the office again just to pay an amount that was higher than my copay, for reasons unknown to anyone at Charak. Seriously, the front desk person said she would have to call the office manager to see why I was being charged more than my copay because the invoice didn't list what the surcharge was for and she was "stumped" because it was "so weird" that happened. Uh huh. And the front desk person had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to reschedule the future appointment I had to go IN PERSON to cancel. Seriously? This place is a scam, yall. Do NOT go here!!! PS - Tell Mako Labratories to stop harassing me and to pick up their phones! And don't give me your canned "please email us" response either. You have wasted my time and plenty others already. Fix your business or do us all a favor and shut down.

I’m having a really hard time getting in contact with ANYONE at the Elyria location. I’ve been calling for the past 2 days, left multiple messages and put straight through to the voicemail. I would really like to know if your receptionist is doing her job or where is she? I’ve seen a few comments about this same problem. All I want to know is if my appointment is in person or on the phone !
