About Choices of Louisiana

Choices of Louisiana is an outpatient program for opioid use disorder located in Alexandria, Louisiana, on the south bank of the Red River. They are CARF accredited and LegitScript certified and accept Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances. They also have a self pay option. Many of their locations are a part of the VA Community Care Network.

Three Phases of Treatment

They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) with methadone and buprenorphine in three phases. The induction phase is the initial dose, during which you’ll work with medical providers to find the right dose for you. The second phase is stabilization, when the cravings and withdrawal symptoms start to fade. This is when you can start to focus on living a healthier lifestyle. In the third or maintenance phase, you’re able to dose on your own at home, freeing you up from daily treatment center visits.

A Lifetime of Support

In addition they provide individual and group counseling, as well as case management to help you plan your treatment and connect to community resources. Medical checkups and assessments are available, and they work with local physicians, psychologists and psychiatrists to offer referrals and ensure your continuity of care. There’s also assistance with transportation and housing. Clients receive support for life after treatment.

My counselor Cameron at the Alexandria site has been amazing since becoming my counselor! He has shown interest in my short term and longterm goals and is always checking in with me on the progress of achieving those goals! I've liked every counselor I have had since being a patient here, but Cameron is the only one who has shown interest in my progress!

I think this program started with the best intentions but along the way lost the plot!! This place is just a legal form of drug dealing!! The fact that they give addicts a month of take homes is a joke, if we had any control we would not be up be up there. They are just another cog in the wheel of a very sick industrial complex, and they really aren t worried about helping you learning healthy coping skills and habits. You are literally a number on a page that represents a cash value!! When I got there they said there goal was for me to not be there more then 2 years, it has now been 16 years!! While I can admit my role in staying so long, they don t encourage any kind of healing, or actually recovery. They want to keep you sick and dependent on them, no better than legal drug dealers!

Accepted Insurance

Choices of Louisiana works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

While each drug rehab in Louisiana offers unique elements, recovery support often follows a similar pattern. Detox is followed by inpatient and/or outpatient care, then aftercare support is provided once the participant completes the initial program.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Accreditations

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1992 by congress, SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on American's communities.

Everyone really cares about us here, and they treat me with respect. My councilor is Cameron and he has been the voice of reason in serious situations that have came up over the last 6 months. He is super supportive, and always gives me insight that helps me navigate these serious issues I’m dealing with. He always has boundaries, and ethics and is a safe person for me to confide in. I don’t know what I would have done without Cameron’s help through the last few weeks especially but through my pregnancy and other sensitive situations. Nurse Blue is also someone that I can always depend on for advice. Mrs. Melissa is always going to advocate for us patients she is fair, and knows her stuff about all this. Even though she is director and busy as could be she still is available to talk almost any given time you can contact her if you have a question or concern. She is also amazing. Mrs. Angela the lead nurse is friendly and a great person to talk to about anything without judgment. She is down to earth and she going to go the extra mile for you. And when she draws your blood, no matter what you have going on with your body she is going to get it done without hurting you.

This is a wonderful place to help you or your loved ones become clean and rid their body of the poisons that control their every day lives. The doctors and nurses their work very hard to help you gwt to where u need to be coming in and going out. Couseling is mandatory once a month but not limited to that. You are assigned a personal counselor and are more than welcome to join different group sessions that may help people who need to talk with others on their same level. Are you ready to quit thid addiction?...then 6am walk in and sign iñ to do an intake...it will change your life for good in the right direction.

I have been a patient with Choices for 22 years and it has sure helped me. If you keep up with the rules and regulations and don't have dirty drug screens and get your bottle checks everything is great . I've not had not one dirty drug screen. I follow the rules . Just do what they ask of you and you will not have any problems.

When trying to explain an absence to the program to my "counselor" cut me off and said, "you need to hurry up and get to a point." The entire phone conversation was 4min2s long but she had a meeting to get to. I mean that's excellent psychological help if ever I've seen it. Never mind the 200+ balance they said I owed from the previous owners who NEVER let me carry a balance for more than 4 days. I'm paying for money I didn't owe under threat of loss of health care.
