About Destination Hope Treatment Center

Destination Hope strives to provide each patient a comfortable environment as they receive evidence based addiction treatment. For clients doing inpatient rehabilitation, their days will start early and feature numerous recovery activities. The counseling sessions they will attend include group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and family therapy. The group meetings will occur on a daily basis and may occur either on or off site. These sessions are for clients to be open and honest about their recovery and provide support for one another.

A variety of relaxation activities will also be a part of the treatment plan. The facility recognizes stress can be a hurdle to recovery, so they provide time for patients to focus on their personal interests, exercise, get rest and engage in other health initiatives. Staff members will teach patients to manage their stress through techniques such as breathing exercises and journaling.

They have been in operation since 2006 and are accredited by The Joint Commission. This facility is also accredited by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and the Florida Department of Children and Families.

I went to destination hope in 2023 and they really helped me. They have great doctors and therapists! I was on a good combo of meds and was treated very well there. The rooms are very comfortable and they have a nice PHP/IOP location as well. The groups were helpful too. Overall, I would recommend destination hope if you’re struggling with mental health issues and need help.

I have been to treatment a total of 8 times in my life. I was never able to put much more than about 6 months together from the first 6 treatment experiences until I went to destination hope. After my first experience with Destination hope I was able to put together 27 months, then had a minor setback but was welcomed back with open arms. Destination hope was the first center that I had ever been to that was dual diagnosis. once there I was able to get the help that I needed to finally start turning my life in the right direction. I was treated for my depression and anxiety disorders as well as substance abuse. The therapists and group facilitators were amazing, they were very knowledgeable and you could defiantly tell that they cared about each individual that walked through their doors. The techs that work there have all been down the same roads that the clients are going through and have very valuable insights, with tips that have helped them through with their recovery. The environment of the facility is very uplifting with many different things to do when your not in groups. After my second time around with Destination Hope I am currently 6 months sober as of July 24th and going strong. this is a facility that i would recommend to anyone that has either mental or substance abuse issues or the combination of both.

Accepted Insurance

Destination Hope Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Florida consists of individual therapy and group instruction. This structured program is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the development of skills for managing emotions and relationships.

As a short term therapeutic method, motivational interviewing in Florida requires only a couple of sessions. During these sessions, you'll have the opportunity to talk about your circumstances and any discrepancies between your current situation and future goals. You'll then decide for yourself what changes you want to make.

Healing my son: When we lost my husband in 2020, I knew it was not going to be an easy road for us. Three weeks later Covid-19 took away the rest of the world. As time progressed, my oldest started to really struggle. I had a teenager with eating disorder/body dysmorphia, erratic behaviors, suicidal ideation, in the LGBTQ community, and now no father as well. We continued going through the motions: therapists, Baker Acts, different stays in mental health facilities, local & out of state. My family and I were basically in “treatment fatigue.” I wasn’t sure if this cycle was ever going to end but then he was sent to Destination Hope. I felt the whole approach was different. We had weekly visitations, which I would attend because the drive was less than an hour away. (these can be attended via zoom as well) But this wasn’t a regular visit, we had group therapy with the other patients in which I participated. It is fascinating how a group of all ages, with different challenges to work through, from different places, can have the most productive conversation. Let’s not forget about Lystra. She creates a dialogue and atmosphere that makes everyone feel included and understood. Lystra is so in tune to the group and in my experience, could really focus on the true emotions the individuals were feeling even if they didn’t say it out loud. My stepson came to a meeting with me and not only was it awesome he could show support for his little brother, but he also had some unhealed trauma that we connected over. Destination Hope also offers family weekend, where all families are invited, and it truly was an eye-opening experience. Just listening to the stories of others through their struggles with substance abuse or mental health obstacles really puts it out there that we all have things to work on & we all can consider the shoes of others. It helped myself & my other children to empathize with J and made him feel supported enough to continue to do the work. Destination Hope also helped to encourage J and others alike to continue to heal through their art. J had paintings, others had drawings, and some played us music. When J came home the job wasn’t done. There was still medication management, regular therapy, and psychiatry appointments. We still participate in the occasional zoom group meeting. When things get too stressful, we know when to take a step back. We use the tools we have learned to regulate our emotions. Destination Hope was a very supportive treatment facility that helped me to get my son back on his path to adulthood and independence. The work is never done, and I am grateful for this experience since some families are not so lucky.

Response from the owner
Kathleen, thank you for trusting us and for sharing your family’s story so openly. We understand how difficult the journey can be, and it means the world to hear that we were able to provide the support your son—and your whole family—needed. Healing is never a one-person process, and we’re honored to have walked alongside you through this chapter. We’re proud of the progress J has made and grateful to hear you’re continuing to use the tools and connections built here. We’ll always be here if you need us.

Destination hope was the best program I’ve ever been to. It has saved me in so many ways the clinical staff is the best I’ve seen they truly care about the clients no matter the time of day. Specifically Gabe King, Keanna, Josh and Lystra truly made such an impact on my journey always caring and helping me even if I didn’t want to listen. Lystra helped put my family that had been broken for years back together my grandmother regularly is on a zoom session with other families learning how to navigate having a child with mental health and substance abuse issues. The techs there wow they love and support you until you love yourself, Lead tech Rob and female Janide and natalie and Gloria truly looked after me as well and Daniel they are amazing. The nurses all of them care so much and value making sure you are okay. The way serious medical emergencies are handled there are top notch! I couldn’t recommend a better place if your finally tired of being sick and tired. The alumni that we have the community we have built you will develop a family. Also can’t forget how good the food is! This place prides itself in taking care of clients and I couldn’t recommend a better place! <3

Response from the owner
Thank you, Kyleigh. Your story and your kind words mean the world to us. We’re so proud of everything you’ve worked through and so grateful our team could walk alongside you. It’s amazing to hear how far you’ve come—reconnecting with family, embracing the alumni community, and learning to love yourself again. You’re a part of this place just as much as it’s a part of you.

Dh. They truly care! My daughter was sent here at the right time on her purpose journey! (i call it) It was so scary bc of the unknown and all things she had went through mentally in such a short period of time and her medication had been all wrong which was causing things that I had never seen my child do in all her life. As a mother just trying find what was right.. But the program is truly set up to help your love ones get back to feeling like them selves.. As one big family we all played a part!! Helping my girl get back to one thing she has always done is smile and laugh getting back doing things she love! Healing and getting stronger every day! If i can leave a family with one thing no matter how it looks God always have a plan! KEEP TRUSTING THE PROCESS! WE LOVE YOU DH FAMILY!!!

Response from the owner
Sherree, thank you for sharing your story with so much honesty and heart. We know how scary the unknown can be, and we’re so glad your daughter was placed here at the right time. Watching her rediscover her light means everything. We’re sending love to your whole family—thank you for being part of ours.

My son is a staying at Destination Hope for help with his mental health. They are a couple of hours away and we didn’t know much about it there and was hoping our son was getting the care he needed. We were fortunate enough to get to visit him and meet the staff and I can’t express enough how happy and grateful I was when I did. I met some AMAZING therapists and staff that really showed not only do they want to help, they genuinely care about you and your journey whether it’s mental health or substance abuse. I am so grateful for them and the work they do. If you or a loved one are in need of support and help with the healing or life skills needed to live or overcome with mental health or substance abuse Destination Hope is where you want to start your journey.

Response from the owner
Jason, thank you so much for your kind words. We know how hard it can be to trust from a distance, and we’re so glad your visit brought comfort and peace of mind. It means a lot to hear that our team made you feel supported and that your son is in good hands. We’re honored to walk alongside your family on this journey.

In March, during mental health awareness month, my husband and I attended an alumni event at Destination Hope. Our son is a patient and is receiving services for his mental health struggles. Later I found out that they also help people with addiction issues. We had no idea what to expect on our visit. Upon arriving, we were welcomed by both the staff and patients. We actually didn't know who was whom, I still had a certain expectation about what to expect in a mental health facility. I was wrong, thank God! Everyone seemed pretty "typical." Later that evening we gathered together for some very personal and raw presentations by alumni, guest speakers, and therapists. With respect to their privacy, I will refrain from sharing their personal stories; however, I would like to share how they made me feel.... connected, inspired, sympathetic, amazed, sad and happy, appreciative, encouraged, and informed. We also saw the mutual love and respect that the employees had for each other. There's a lot of teamwork going on there! This is a place where interns, volunteers, and even patients come back to work and volunteer. When all was said and done, we could finally sigh a breath of relief that our son was in the right place, receiving the right help, with the right people! We are so thankful that there are people, (these exact people, actually) out there who have dedicated their lives to helping people like our son. May God continue to provide support and encouragement to them all!

Response from the owner
Darlene, thank you for sharing your experience with such honesty and heart. We’re so glad your visit brought comfort and clarity, and that you were able to feel the sense of community and purpose we strive to create every day. Knowing that your son is in good hands and that you feel that too means everything to us.

My daughter received services through Destination Hope a few years ago and she is still doing very well. In some ways I can say it saved her life by renewing her faith in herself and restoring hope of a promising future.

Response from the owner
Your words mean so much to us. Knowing that your daughter left with renewed faith in herself and hope for the future is exactly why we do this work. We’re so glad to hear she’s still thriving—it’s a true testament to her strength and resilience.
