About East Jefferson General Hospital

The East Jefferson General Hospital has been providing care for over 50 years in Metairie, Louisiana. This location offers social worker services that can connect you with substance use disorder treatment (which this network provides at other locations). They help families and individuals of all ages. This location accepts many insurance providers including Medicare and Medicaid.

More Than Just Referrals

Social workers do more than just provide referrals to care. At this location they can provide counseling as well, helping to address needs in the short term while you wait to join a treatment plan. They serve an important role by preventing a gap in care.

Social workers can also help you plan and coordinate your care (including aftercare). They also provide assessments that can help you zero in on just what type of care will serve you best.

Finding Help Among Your Peers

Another way these social services can help is by introducing you to relevant support groups. Such groups are an excellent addition to a treatment plan because they help fill social needs, add structure to your day and give you the insight of others who are also in treatment. Their help can be a useful tool in between sessions or an ongoing part of aftercare.

Emergency room with my father who has pneumonia, and a spot on a lung. Didn t take long for him to be admitted into an ER waiting room. That is the only plus. Encountered condescending nurses except for the orange section, had to ask several times about getting him food. After almost 14 hours finally fed him after I was told that he was on dietary restriction that no one told us about.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically need less intensive supervision and support than those in inpatient care. Clients may continue to work and attend school while participating in addiction counseling and recovery education during the evening, night, or weekend. Clients also often enter intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment immediately upon exiting residential care, which provides them with high-level step-down support as they reintegrate into their homes and communities.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I have been here 2 days and I am well taken care of, the facility is clean I have my own room with television and it’s a very compassionate and professional staff. My nurses Deidres and Gege have been awesome. I especially want to shout out Amoun in food services/the cafeteria he is a sweet soul and took so much patience with me planning my meals for the duration of my stay - he is really gifted in working with people, please give the man a raise.

I took my 26-year-old son to the ER on Thursday night to receive treatment for dehydration from a construction site. The waiting room had about 20 people in it, but I wasn't sure how many were patients. We were told there are no beds, and we're unsure when he will be seen. My son said, "Mom, I'm feeling worse by the second." I had to leave because he was in distress. After phone calls, we were referred to the Lakeside Tulane ER. They triaged him immediately, and thank goodness for that. He was in severe condition. They stabilized him for a couple of hours and transported him by ambulance back to the EJ ER. (They are only set up for specific capabilities, but they were wonderful) We were greeted with a snarky Welcome Back. I would not have left in the first place had his cries for help been answered. I hope never to have to set foot in your facility again. My son's life was in danger of a heart attack because of his diagnosis. (Rhabdomyolysis) There were no ICU beds available as the doctor requested, so we stayed in your ER for the remainder of these 22 hours until his release.

Nurse Charlie is the worst nurse ever. My grandma was on the 6th floor and she asked if he could removed the massage leg things because she doesn’t use them and the wires were everywhere, she could trip and fall and also she’s a high fall risk. he put them on the wheelchair and she goes no I want them out and he slams the door and leaves. I talked to the supervisor and they took him off as her nurse. What if someone was in extreme pain or in a terrible condition and treats another patient with disrespect and hurts them or something worse as in they fall and hurt themselves even more. He needs to go if he treats patients like that. VERY disappointed. Nurse Elliot and Nurse Melinda are WONDERFUL!

Went to EJ for chest pains and shortness of breathe. To make a long 18 day in the hospital stay short. I had quadruple bypass and was on the impella machine. The care I received was first class and they are reason I am here today. The ICU Cardic Care Team is by far the best around and took my care with the upmost concern and urgency. I can't thank them enough!
