About Focus Treatment Centers

Onsite medical detox is usually the first step for those seeking addiction treatment. Clients remain under the supervision of staff who help them manage withdrawal symptoms and prepare them for the next steps of treatment. The length of this stage depends on the severity of a client’s symptoms, but it’s typically a short term process.

Residential treatment is a high level of care for those with severe symptoms. It provides both a structured environment and 24 hour supervision. Treatment takes place with small groups in an intimate, home-like setting. Services offered include individual and family therapy, 12 Step meetings, life skills training, and stress management. It also includes relapse prevention, family programs, therapeutic activities, art therapy, and adventure programming.

PHP is the highest level of day treatment available with clients spending much of each day in treatment at the facility and returning home at night. It includes group therapy, drug and alcohol testing, the development of life and coping skills, and nutritional counseling.

IOP is used as a step down following completion of the inpatient program or PHP. Clients meet three times a week for group therapy and to continue working on coping skills. Like PHP, it also includes drug and alcohol screenings and nutritional counseling.

Aftercare at this facility takes the form of alumni groups and meetings. You’ll stay connected with your peers as a support group.

Focus Treatment Centers works with many insurance plans, including Cigna, Optum, Humana, Magellan, MultiPlan, and others. Out of network benefits may vary, so clients considering a treatment plan are urged to confirm coverage with their plan.

I came into this facility in bad shape with no hope as an alcoholic. After being there for 28 days I came out a new man. A different person. A better person. The staff there is unbelievable and have lots of knowledge to share! I could not have done it on my own. The food there is amazing also. I would recommend Focus Treatment Center to anyone that I can reach out to that needs help.

Would give 0 stars but since I can’t— consider this star as an as a bright shiny warning to anyone considering treatment at Focus. Let this star guide you far far away from Focus and to a place you can truly find your light again and receive the treatment yams healing you deserve. Why? So glad you asked! Recently I came to find that the only real “star” (aka the only person in leadership qualified to provide life saving, evidence based, patient centered care)— the director of eating disorder programs Addie Bramlett (RDN, LDN, CEDS-C) was unjustly fired from Focus. This news has been heart breaking to say the least. Heartbreaking for many reasons but since this is a review and likely you, the reader, have stumbled across these words desperately & bravely seeking treatment from qualified professionals that have your best interest in mind I’ll be concise. Likely you are searching for hope, safety, healing, and last but not least a place to go where you can feel confident that you are being given the best shot at getting your life back. I was that person once. Thankfully I came to Focus at a time where qualified, educated, kind, and truly passionate people were there to catch me at my most vulnerable and dark times. Focus has made it abundantly clear that they are no longer more motivated by helping patients heal rather more focused on joining the toxic treatment center corporate machine that people like Addie worked tirelessly to keep it from becoming. Focus as it is now, would sadly be a place where your bravery, commitment to recovery, and hope for a brighter future would be crushed. I’m so thankful I had people like Addie along with a long list of other beautiful humans there to hold hope and fight for me when I no longer couldn’t. At the same time I’m hold so much sadness for people like you that may never get to experience what it’s like to walk in the doors of Focus and be met with the same opportunity. My hope for anyone looking for treatment is that this review not be something that discourages you. Let it be the gift that it is in knowing 1. People like Addie and other QUALIFIED professionals DO exist and WANT to help. People that have the certifications, education, and ethics to be that person for you. 2. You don’t have to waste your time and money at Focus because they have showered you with false promises and last but not least 3. You get to hear me encourage you as someone that saved my life did for me (Addie)- You are capable. You matter. You are worthy of recovery. You are stronger than you think. You are smart. You are resilient. And you can and will find the place that GETS the HONOR of providing you treatment and cheer you on as you ultimately live that beautiful life you deserve. And who knows maybe the CEO will see this and make the changes we all actually need to be made. I guess time will tell.

Accepted Insurance

Focus Treatment Centers works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive outpatient option for those with moderate to severe addictions, allowing you to return home at the end of the day. It can be an alternative to hospitalization or used as a step-down option. PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours of treatment per week for an average of 90 days. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment includes relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. PHP treatment is often covered by providers.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

If you participate in motivational interviewing in Tennessee, your therapist will focus on four key strategies: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. Rather than confront or warn you to change, the clinician will allow you to explore your own motivations and decide what changes you may need to make in your life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Many individuals who are experiencing addiction are extremely malnourished. This is due to negative patterns that develop during active addiction. Nutrition therapy helps break these negative patterns and teaches you to develop healthy ones that will help you sustain sobriety long term.

Recreational therapy supports addiction recovery by giving you structured activities that promote physical and mental health. These help build a supportive network of your peers that promotes sobriety. Activities can include sports, creative arts, and outdoor adventures that help you reduce cravings, manage stress, and give you an emotional outlet.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

As a mental health therapist who works with eating disorders, Focus was one of my first referral sources due to the high integrity and quality of care that patients experienced. I am deeply disappointed and disheartened upon hearing that the certified eating disorder specialist dietician, Addie, was let go. She was the powerhouse of the eating disorder program with Focus. As a former client of Focus treatment center, I had a truly transformative experience, in large part because of Addie. She is fiercely dedicated, empathetic, uniquely gifted at helping folks recover in their eating disorders. This is one of the most difficult jobs, and she continuously worked with grace and diligence, unlike anything I've ever experienced. I am able to now be a therapist, thanks to the help of Addie. Once she has opened her own outpatient practice, I know she will absolutely THRIVE. My hopes is that Focus will do the internal work to heal within so that they can help the clients they serve.

This facility claims to put patients first, but what happens behind the scenes tells a different story. A dear friend of mine, the Eating Disorder specialist for 12 years, was devoted to creating schedules and treatment plans tailored to patient needs, always going above and beyond. She was unfairly fired without being allowed to defend herself — a heartbreaking loss for the patients who trusted her. During my own time here, I witnessed staff speaking about patients in deeply unprofessional ways, while HR and leadership ignored serious issues. The culture is built on favoritism and bullying from upper management (especially Christina, Jennifer, and Bonnie), and patient well-being often takes a back seat. Families deserve to know that true patient care is compromised here

They just lost their best tech. They just lost their most seasoned eating disorder therapist. They just lost the expert and specialist of their eating disorder program. As an eating disorder provider in the Chattanooga community, and an active referral source for Focus, I can say that I will never refer another patient to this place again. When they let Addie walk out that door, they lost the heart and soul of that program. Everyone in this community knows the culture that has been allowed to exist within the walls of Focus. We know who the abusive people are and we know that the employees and patients are not cared for. The nurses and techs do not deserve the abuse and bullying they endure by management. There are no specialists running that unit now. They have no strength in clinical leadership. Do not send your clients there.
