About Lahey Hospital & Medical Center

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, a member of the Beth Israel Lahey Health System, provides comprehensive medical and behavioral health care for residents of Burlington, Massachusetts, and the greater Boston region. Their behavioral health and substance use treatment programs serve adults 18 years old and older. They accept most commercial insurance and managed care plans, Medicare and Massachusetts Medicaid.

Emergency Crisis Intervention Services

Individuals facing a mental health or addiction crisis can speak with a qualified crisis professional 24 hours a day seven days per week. Their mobile intervention service can also be dispatched to Andover, Lawrence, Methuen and North Andover to meet with individuals at their homes, schools, outpatient clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and aging centers. They can provide emergency psychiatric assessments, intervention and stabilization and make referrals to the appropriate level of care.

Medical Detox and Clinical Stabilization Service

Often people experiencing addiction need medically supervised detox. This is especially true with alcohol, opioid, benzodiazepine and certain stimulant abuse. Lahey Health System offers 24/7 medically supervised detox services that provide physician-led withdrawal using a variety of FDA approved medications and interventions. These provide the stabilization needed to focus on the next step in recovery.

For individuals who require acute treatment for substance use disorder but do not require medical detox, Lahey offers a Clinical Stabilization Service program (CSS). On average individuals stay in the program for 10 to 14 days. They receive treatment that focuses on symptom management through education, aftercare planning, case management, skill building and therapy.

Outpatient Services

Not all individuals with substance use disorder need inpatient treatment. At Lahey they offer a wide variety of services including partial hospitalization programs (PHP), individual and group therapy and medication management. They can also assist individuals with co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders and PTSD.

Their outpatient services help individuals create a life without addiction. These programs utilize a variety of talk therapies, skill building programs and relapse prevention support. Because families are also impacted by addiction they offer family therapy and couples counseling services.

Was here for 10 days and I will say the level of care was average and the experience was rough as is with any hospital stay. With that being said I do want to note that while in the icu i had a few nurses who stood out to me in a hugely positive way, those two being Colby and Cecelia - and Nadine was wonderful too. While in cuz Jenn was amazing and on the 6th floor before release I had pleasant experiences with all nursing staff but the stand out was Lauren. Again, 90% of my nurses were great but some just do literally everything they can to help and it means the world in that situation. I hope someone who will be able to recognize them reads this and passes the message along…

My son was in the hospital over the Memorial Day weekend. Nurse Karen and older woman, short with glasses in the ER was phenomenal. Checked on him constantly, and kept us updated throughout. She showed compassion throughout. We felt like we were in good hands. We started in the hallway, then moved to a private waiting area and finally a room all less than 24 hours. The nurses on floor 7 were also exceptional.

The care I received from the cardiac department was superior, the doctors and nurses were informing as well as professional and caring. I felt sincerely attended to thank you all very much.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.

Due to various health issues that substance abuse causes, 24-hour clinical care in Massachusetts is often a necessary part of treatment. Individuals may be suffering from infections, illness, or organ damage. Having 24-hour care available ensures that these physical problems are treated along with the psychological effects of addiction. Once individuals complete detox and are medically stable, this intensive level of supervision ends, and the next phase of treatment can begin.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Waiting is a constant on any hospital, but once you're called in you're dealt with efficiently. Related appointments are scheduled on the same day, so they reduce your visits. Staff is professional and accommodating

No idea why you would ever want to make someone pay for parking, especially when you’re seeing loved ones every day in the hospital. Most doctors also have horrible bedside manners.

This hospital has great equipment and above-average clinicians. Yet communication is horrible, and the patient care experience is consistently one-star. The Administration must be incompetent.

I have been going to this hospital for more than decade and a half and paid all my outstanding bills. This past two years have been quite hard. I lost my job and barely having enough to meet my needs and others. I was able to have some people help me keep my insurance and went to lahey for my regular yearly check ups, consequently incurring a balance two different times. They have an option for financial assistance which I have applied to and both times, I have been denied. The financial or business office keeps asking for the latest paystubs or my old taxes which I have made clear I am not working so I do not know where I am supposed to get that documentation. My two bills come to under $300 which is a small amount for all the money I have brought to them. On the contrary with my scraping for pennies, that is a huge amount I cannot currently afford. it is sad that for once, they cannot forgive or let go of a bill that will not even break their bank. Anyway, this hospital has truly deteriorated through the years. PS: I know my post will probably be removed.
