This place saved my life. I have loved and enjoyed my time at the Mcshin foundation. It truly has changed my life for the better without this place. I would still be living the same lifestyle that I was living before they have the tools and the know how to teach you how to live a life better than the one you were living before I would recommend any person on the face of this earth to this program The tools I have learned I will carry with me for the rest of my life thankful for the Mcshin foundation and a special shout out to the men’s program Director Grant he is absolutely amazing and what he does it makes Grant has had the biggest impact on me at Mcshin sincerely, Zachary

From another post: "Thank you for your feedback. We are committed to providing a supportive environment for all of our residents. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter with you directly." Bullcrap. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful that they gave me the opportunity, but what was there response in the face of difficulty? To have 8 people in the room with me tell me how I was wrong without listening to what I was dealing with, as if to bully me? To go to community meetings to hear the CEO say, "I have to take care of my kids so I have to leave," and also, "We got a $2 million dollar grant and we don't have to account for it"? For the COO to ask to meet, and then fail to show up and walk by multiple times? To be accused by house leadership of not following directions, yet, the brother of the CEO (who was also a house sub-leader...after being demoted for whatever reasons) can influence another house leader wrongly goes with impunity? What does a socialist fist flag of "Love is Love" have to do with sobriety? Endorse nor oppose any causes? It is NOT what Mr. Shinholzer and his wife created. It is not what it should be. Want to require DEI readings, while entitling others? Hypocrites. There are some good people here. There truly are. Sadly, the leadership and entitled others ruin it. And I doubt they would fix it. Because, as one author wrote: “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

A sober living home in Vermont offers a balance between monitored structure and living in mainstream society. No alcohol or drugs are allowed on the premises, and residents must participate in 12-step meetings. Residents of the halfway house also agree to submit to random drug screenings, pay rent, and participate in household activities such as meetings, meals, and chores.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-women thumbnail image

Program For Women

Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Family therapists work with all members of the family to understand the roles they play in the addiction dynamic. Addressing these patterns is crucial to developing healthier ways to interact and support each other, as well as contributing to a more effective recovery for their loved ones.

I came to McShin by the Grace of God and my fearless wife, I was absolutely hopelessly stuck in a 2 year addiction, the altruistic, compassionate, staff and participants all loved me back to life. My experience in my 28 day intensive stay at Clarke house, was like no other experience i’ve ever had in my entire life. Their approach is unparalleled and is precisely what I needed. If you or you know someone as hopeless as I was, give yourself or loved one a chance at a message of hope and a promise of freedom from active addiction!!

Response from the owner
We are so happy you and your wife found us. Good luck and spread hope!

I was here in 2014. I didn't learn anything near what I learned in Louisville. I ended up getting kicked out because they gave me tramadol in the ER when I went for an abscess that had my whole jaw swollen. They really expected me to suffer in pain. Even the doctor in the ER told me that I was going to need something for pain so he gave me that because I told him I was not supposed to take any narcotics due to being in a recovery house. I was the only black person there except for two guys back when I went. I do feel like they would have been more lenient with me if I was white, just being honest. It's like the staff couldn't wait to get rid of me. I also had way too much freedom to had just been there under 30 days. There are some success stories here but for me it was a big waste of money. Oh and I do have almost 5 years clean now...

Response from the owner
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are truly sorry to hear about your experience and take any concerns related to prejudice or discrimination very seriously. We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone.
If you're open to it, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly and learn more about your experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at (804)249-1845 so we can continue making McShin a place of healing and equity for all. Ask for Honesty Liller or Jesse Wysocki. Thank you.

I’m truly grateful to the McShin foundation and its mission ♥️ I found McShin in November 2021, never previously experiencing sobriety or recovery . Me..I’d never spent one day of my adult life sober. McShin provided me the tools, the safe space and nurturing environment for me to begin my healing process and taught me how to love myself again, living life one day at a time. With the passionate and patient love of the supporting staff, I went from a broken man and participant to working as a staff member with the same people, I started my journey looking up to, restoring my dignity and self-worth! Much love to my McShin FAMILY! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!! 🙏

Response from the owner
We love you David. Thank you for the review and for your kind soul in this world. We will forever be grateful for all you did for our mission and the humans we serve. This isn't goodbye, it is see you later! Good luck on your next chapter.
