Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs enable clients to receive care without leaving their home, workplace, and community. Clients typically receive intensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Many programs promote clients' long-term sobriety through recovery-focused life skills training and ancillary services, such as peer coaching. Medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, are common in outpatient care. Most facilities offer multiple levels of care to accommodate clients' evolving needs, including intensive outpatient (IOP) and standard outpatient programming.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Safe detox requires 24-hour clinical care in Tennessee. This is due to the health risks that are involved during withdrawal. As the brain reacts to the absence of the drug, severe symptoms can occur, depending on the type of drug used. For instance, alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal may result in seizures. Fortunately, supervised care in a clinical setting can provide the necessary treatment to avoid health risks and allow you to complete detox safely.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

The goal of a drug intervention in Tennessee is to encourage a person with a substance use disorder to enter treatment. The process also educates family members about addiction, enabling behaviors, and treatment options. The involvement of intervention services can help with this education and provide guidance for the intervention itself and follow-up care. The professional interventionist will work with the entire family to encourage the best outcomes possible from the intervention.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
child-program thumbnail image

Child Program

The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Recreational therapy supports addiction recovery by giving you structured activities that promote physical and mental health. These help build a supportive network of your peers that promotes sobriety. Activities can include sports, creative arts, and outdoor adventures that help you reduce cravings, manage stress, and give you an emotional outlet.

Life skills training teaches you how to cope with challenging situations in non destructive ways. This crucial piece of drug rehab in Tennessee gives you tools for decision making, relationship building, and self care.

Typical cognitive behavioral therapy in Tennessee involves recognizing negative thinking and learning techniques to change that thinking and create new, positive behaviors. Strategies may include SMART goals, journaling, and situation exposure.

Counseling in Tennessee that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach can last from six to 12 months. During that time, you'll develop skills in the areas of distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

If you participate in motivational interviewing in Tennessee, your therapist will focus on four key strategies: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. Rather than confront or warn you to change, the clinician will allow you to explore your own motivations and decide what changes you may need to make in your life.

They were very disrespectful this place did not help me. And please get ms glass fired as soon as possible. They didn't even let my mom know what was happening when I overdosed on my Lithium and almost died from it. So I would not recommend this place for your child.

There were fights all the time, girls breaking lights to harm themselves or others almost on a daily. There were girls hooking up and staff would look the other way. There was nothing about that place that helped I had to get transferred to a different program

The people working at Oak Plains should be working at prison, that would be their perfect job because of the characteristics they show. They are the worst of their kind, I don't understand how they think that people can be helped with their attitudes.

Hi my name is jayda johnson I am a former patient, I spent a total of 2 years at oak plains and I would just like to say that i do not recommend sending anyone here respectful. Their are some good staff here of course but there are more bad stuff than good ones and that rules it out. During my time there I was mentally abused and physically when I left I was broken so much that now I'm in therapy and have to take medication I left with more trauma than when I was admitted. This place is not good it breaks you and destroys you mentally and it is not safe at all. I personally do not support this place and I do not recommend at all.

When we were faced with taking our teenage son to a residential treatment facility, our life was in complete disarray and chaos. Nothing can truly prepare you emotionally for this type of need. I'll be completely honest, when we first looked into Oak Plains, we almost walked away. At that time the reviews were not great and we were trying to make the best decisions while feeling like no choice given to us at the time was best. I called and spoke with Ms. Alex, and I was honest with her about the reviews being very concerning. She did not try to dismiss my concerns or act as though the negative reviews were not without merit. She answered and explained what she could and was upfront and honest with me. I truly appreciated that she didn't try to "sell" me something, but gave me a clearer picture of where the facility had been, where it currently was, and the goals they were pursuing. This level of integrity gave me and my husband the confidence needed to give the cautious go ahead for our son's admission. Again, while this is never any parent's ideal, I am so glad we pushed past our fears. Was this easy for us or our son? Of course not. I don't want to make it seem like a garden of roses, there were definitely many challenges. But every concern we as parents had was promptly addressed. Communication was clear. And my son's therapist - Ms. Savanah and his doctor - Dr. Rhonda - were both an absolute Godsend. I 100% believe the Lord used them both to help our son find relief from his physical symptoms and begin the road to emotional healing. Again, I know my son did not enjoy his experience here. But it worked. To give perspective, exactly one year later we were able to drop him off at a summer camp. Not only did he have an absolute blast, but he won camper of the year! In one year's time frame we went from being barely functionable in society to being able to independently attend a summer camp. That is HUGE progress. And a good majority of this our family owes to the staff here at Oak Plains. In about 6 months they got us on the right path needed that we had been desperately searching for with other providers and therapies for the better part of the last 6 years! Will this be a fix all for everyone? Most likely not, everyone's needs are of course vastly different. But if you are on the fence worried like we were, please trust them. Please give them a chance. You may be surprised what you and your child can accomplish. It doesn't have to be hopeless. We are living proof that there is hope. And thank you to the staff at Oak Plains is an understatement.

My daughter was a resident there for a little over 6 months. It was her home away from home. She had the best care from all the nurses that came into contact with her. Her Therapist, Gina, was her and I rock getting through this. Gina was also our advocate when we needed answers from DCS. She communicated with us well when they didn't. They had fun nights out, spa days, and so much more for the kids to feel some normalcy. However, some of the individuals there could have a better attitude and better communication. Especially when it came to visitations and what to bring when it was discussed on a list with the Therapist. Overall, I do recommend this place to anyone looking for help for their young one. I am truly grateful for all that you all did. Thank you!

From my teen's perspective: This facility is definitely different than any of the other facilities I went to. My experience was overall 3 because it wasn't perfect. They get new staff almost every month. While I was there I only encountered only very few staff that I felt were not suitable to work there. Overall the staff were sweet. I wanted to make a shout-out to Ms. Alex, Ms. Bella, Ms. MyKayla, Ms. Karly, and Ms. J. They had a big impact on my life in the facility, helped things look up, and I'm grateful for them. The nurse's there are okay. The medical care that I received there wasn't ASAP on some things I went through for personal health issues or issues in general, they do stay very busy though. While I was there I made a lot of worth-keeping friends. They pushed me through, helped me, and were there with me every step of the way. There were a lot of fights, some staff got hurt in the process of breaking them up. The kids always got lectures on how what they were doing was wrong. From my personal experience everything was chill most of the time. I was personally never into any fights and I was chill with everyone, but sometimes that's not always the case. The past reviews make this place sound bad, but it's not. What makes the place "bad" is the kids. The kids as you could guess go through a lot in facilities, and that's why they make things bad. Throughout being in this place therapy was okay, they see you 1X a week for personal sessions, 1 a week for family too. Depending on the behavior of the kid they don't get you at all. The therapist there are amazing. They helped me figure some things out for myself in order to have a healthy time at home. Overall, solid 3. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who has the idea of putting there kids in a facility. This is the best one you could probably go to. From a parent's perspective: Oak Plains Academy is better than most, from my experience. The food is much healthier and not all carbs. (My child has insulin resistance that is diet controlled.) Outings and incentives for better behavior are outstanding. I like that they don't push meds to control behaviors, but rely on counseling to help kids manage their behavior in the long run. I was frustrated that I didn't get to participate in team meetings at all. The one time I was able to get into the Zoom meeting, whoever was running it removed me from the meeting and I wasn't able to get back in. Weekly family sessions rarely happened as scheduled, and a couple of times not at all, which left me feeling extremely out of the loop and in the dark. My child has only been back home for a couple of days, and so far things are much better. Any long-lasting changes are yet to be determined. While I have not had a great experience, I would recommend Oak Plains only because there are not many insurance- approved facilities that are better, which speaks volumes to the current state of residential facilities in this country.

Our family was shattered by the time our oldest was accepted to Oak Plains Academy. The complexity of emotion that comes with asking (telling) your child to live elsewhere as an act of love is overwhelming, to say the least. This, often after watching your child in pain that you’re unable to shield or save them from. For us, the unthinkable happened and we almost lost our son. Our son had been failed by other agencies and begged to stay home. He is intelligent, creative, funny, and full of purpose. But we couldn’t keep him safe and at that point, we couldn’t keep his younger sister safe. Enter Oak Plains Academy. As Christians, my husband and I prayed for confirmation that we were doing the right thing for our children. We spoke with administration and they were straight forward about reasons for previous negative reviews and how things have changed. I respect that. Then my son was assigned a counselor, Mr. Matt. My son feels emotion by playing music and Mr. Matt also plays music, a connection. I cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Matt. I believe him to be a man who is called to this field, an example of humility, kindness, leadership, healthy coping and relationship skills. My son entered OPA and completed the program. The staff showed up for our family with compassion and generosity; I never felt judgment or shame. When I picked my son up, I figured he would have his bags packed, waiting at the door. I was wrong, and I was so touched. This boy of mine had grown so much in emotional maturity that he wanted to thank staff and hug his friends goodbye, largely thanks to Mr. Matt. My son named many staff members that poured into him, whether by loving on him or holding him accountable. Our family feels complete. He has made big steps already, expressing feelings, getting a job, and enrolling in therapy. If you are someone like me who believes reviews are important and may bypass Oak Plains Academy because of reviews, please don’t. You’ll sell your family short. If my 17 year old says he appreciates the people who work there, that’s more than enough for me. I don’t exaggerate when I say that the people at OPA helped keep my son alive and give him hope again. To Mr. Matt and all the staff at OPA, thank you for being on his side, even when I/we may have failed to see it as parents. Thank you for choosing the hard job, the job that pays less, the job that requires constant sacrifice and discipline. Because of you, children like mine are still alive and thriving. These children may have felt loved and seen for the first time in their lives. Thank you to your families who inherently understand what a challenging job you have, though you can’t share about it, and for how they support you. When you have days when you question why you do what you do, please remember kids like mine.

I can't express how greatful I am to Matt Waddell for getting my boy to open up and get his feelings out. He has struggled for several years with anger and depression of the loss of his father. Then the abuse/abandonment from his mother and her boyfriend. Matt got him to open up and finally get his feelings out. His stay was for 6 months to get him on the right medications and to get them adjusted where they needed to be. Believe me he was a challenge at times because he doesn't like rules and structure. But he learned routines, rules, and ways to cope with his anger and emotions. Jake will be returning home on Monday June 2nd a different young man. He will be using the tools that he learned to control his feelings and behavior. I want to thank Matt and the rest of the staff for all you have done to help Jake during his stay. I'm just sorry you had to experience what I had to deal with on many occasions. I know he/we will do great things moving forward! I thank the teacher for helping him maintain his honor grades to stay in Beta. Yes even the ones with good grades struggle with anger/depression. My only wish would be is to get God to these children. Whether it be bringing a Pastor in to share the word or getting them to a local church. May God Bless You All and the Children!!! I Pray over Oak Plains daily that the children find peace and guidance to get better...
