About Oceans Behavioral Hospital Alexandria

Known for its natural beauty and rich history, Alexandria, Louisiana is also home to Oceans Behavioral Hospital Alexandria. Since 2004, this treatment center has provided comprehensive addiction and co occurring mental health care for multiple age ranges. You can access specialized behavioral healthcare for older adults and seniors to meet you at any recovery stage.

With a foundation rooted in dignity and comprehensive care, they strive to help you reach your recovery goals. You can participate in inpatient and intensive outpatient programs to meet your specific needs.

They provide proven therapeutic interventions to help you get to the root of addiction and change your behaviors. Your program can include addiction and mental health education, group and individual therapy, medication management and discharge planning.

Specialized Support for Military Life

What strikes me the most is their STAR Military Program. This program offers tailored services for active military, Veterans, and their families. They understand that military personnel experience unique challenges that can contribute to substance abuse, trauma, and other mental health conditions.

They even offer separate groups for seniors and Veterans who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. You’ll benefit from a safe, highly structured space to share your experiences and receive unwavering support.

Whole Person Healing for Sustained Recovery

Another great feature I noticed was their holistic approaches. They help you heal your mind, body, and soul to promote long term recovery. You can participate in relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and recreational therapy. You’ll leave treatment with new self care approaches to improve your overall wellness.

Guiding Families Through Recovery

I also think it’s wonderful that they provide family support and education. Addiction doesn’t just affect you. Your loved ones can benefit from guidance in understanding the recovery process and how to support you and themselves throughout this journey.

Accepted Insurance

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Alexandria works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

My husband is currently a patient there and has dementia and they are not giving me any information and are claiming that we are divorced/ are legally separated, which is is a bald face lie .On top of that I was told that they can't honor my POA because a dementia patient say so , if he has dementia than that is what my POA is for.I asked them so what am I supposed to do when he returns home? No communication: ( so say at his request how does someone with dementia gets to make a request if they don't know who they are)So what am I supposed to do with a person in our home that I have no knowledge about his medical condition. We are still legally married.it is okay for my others to know all about him but not the spouse of 18 years... HIPPA has got to do better as well as Oceans

I was treated very well by the day shift. No complains. They were kind and considerate. It did bother me that one lady with dementia was allowed to roam around freely, into others rooms. She took things and lay in others beds. The c night aides were very loud and disrespectful. Most i.portantly

The overall facility could have been cleaner but most of the staff are caring and aims to help. There’s one social worker there named Mrs Candice that my family is so thankful for. She cares for her patients and takes time with families. My family members can be a lot at times!! My father has been to facility twice however last time he had another therapist that told him that he could not request who he wanted as therapist. I understand if this is rule or whatever but the other therapist was rude, did not meet with him or call family. Furthermore, he had a dog with him and told patients that it bites! My father will not be going back unless he has say so with who his therapist will be in future.

Well, there is always room for improvement. Regardless of what a place may specialize in. I was a patient there. Most people dont understand what the staff is up against daily. In my opinion, they do what is best for the patient. Although there are patients who require alternative measures. The patients mental, and physical well being is always their main concern.

Hi - Thank you for your kind words! We are proud of our team and grateful for the opportunity to provide care in our community.

I'll just say I wouldn't let them board my dog much less a loved one. Nov 2019 my father with dementia was admitted. He was kept straped to a wheelchair. He never walked again. Died 2 months later.

Ocean Hospital in Alexandria La. Was awful !!! Do not send your love ones there. My husband is retired military and he was dirty, unshaved. He was in the same clothes for 4 days. He does not deserve to be treated that way. No one seem to know when the Dr would be there. I never spoke with a social worker the whole time. you get Zero stars. Shame on you!!

My mother was sent there from the nursing home because she said the word suicide. Then they kept her because she was delusional (she was delusional before going over there because she has dementia). They would not let us get her out. DO NOT EVER SEND A LOVED ONE HERE. She went back to the nursing home 10 times worse. There was no communication from the dr. He would not return multiple messages that I left. This was the Alexandria location.

0 out of 0 stars If possible! All I gotta say is... If you are dealing with a y type of PTSD, Depression, Anxiety etc etc from things like stress, childhood trauma, your current situation or anything else, then DO NOT go to these people! They absolutely do not care about you or making sure you get the right treatment! This place is nothing but hateful, selfish, disgusting, rude people who absolutely should NOT be working in such environment around people who are dealing with mental health issues! They themselves have got serious mental issues!

10 out of 10 would not recommend to ANYBODY. For the outpatient groups I was encouraged to open up and be honest but the moment I was they held me there against my will while saying I had a "choice" of going inpatient. Would not let me leave had to go to the hospital in the back of a cop car for the fact I was crying when I opened up about the things making me depressed. Dr changed my medicine a month later STILL HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT FILLED!!! Called my insurance the reason was because the directions for use on my PA was not included and my insurance closed out my PA for them not responding back. Now today after 2 weeks of asking to be discharged from the program I got a random zoom link meeting sent to me from an unknown number waited for nearly 2 hours for them to reschedule on me. These people need to get there stuff together. If your sad or depressed don't go because THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU!
