About Polaris Counseling Consulting

Polaris Counseling & Consulting, in North Providence, Rhode Island, offers outpatient mental health counseling, including treatment for substance use disorders (SUD). Not only do they help individuals, but they also offer counseling services for couples. They’ve been a part of the North Providence community for 10 years.

The licensed counselors at Polaris Counseling & Consulting have experience with SUD and conditions like anxiety and depression. Most are accepting new clients, so you shouldn’t need to wait long to get an appointment.
Since their offices are just a few minutes from the RIPTA Bus Route 58, you don’t necessarily need your own car to get to appointments. Along Mineral Spring Avenue, there are restaurants and shops to explore before or after counseling. About two miles away is Peter Randall State Park, where you can enjoy a quiet walk to reflect on your treatment and recovery.

Get Started with an Evaluation

Sometimes it’s hard to tell when substance use starts crossing a line. The counselors here can help you sort that out with a substance use evaluation. It’s a good way to learn more about your relationship with alcohol or drugs.

Receive Care that Goes Beyond Talk

Their holistic health experts look at the whole person to create a wellness plan that fits each individual. They blend addiction counseling with practical tools you can use every day to be successful in recovery. One client shared that the sessions helped them grow into a better spouse and friend.

Some counselors specialize in trauma, while others bring mindfulness into their sessions. There’s even a counselor who uses expressive arts therapy.

Rebuild Relationships in Recovery

Substance use can strain even the strongest relationships. It’s not uncommon for communication to break down. Couples therapy offers a space to work through conflict and begin rebuilding trust.

Manage Anger

Anger and addiction often go together. Working through anger can be a key part of recovery. Counselors specialize in anger management and can help you figure out where the anger comes from and how to handle it in a healthy way.

My therapist had a medical issue and went out on a leave of absence. TOTALLY understandable. I was told she’d be out for two weeks, three weeks go by and I finally hear from the office, telling me she will be out for a month. They did ask if I was okay waiting or if I would like them to set me up with a different therapist. I told them that if it was just for the month, that I would rather wait than go through the entire process of starting over with a new therapist. Here it is, 3 months later and they don’t return my messages. How do you run a practice dealing with people’s mental health and ghost them while they’re in the middle of therapy? Unprofessional, uncaring, and honestly a risk to the lives of those who may be desperately in need of help. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Hi Teresa<br>Unfortunately, that staff member is still out on an extended medical leave and we didn’t foresee an emergency medical leave. I’m sorry that you’ve experienced no one returning your messages - can you tell me which email you’ve been sending messages to? If you email infopolarisri@gmail.com or call the main office at 401-349-4269 we’d be happy to set you up with one of our available clinicians. As one of the owners, I can assure you that those two points of contact will get you a timely response.

Jenn is amazing and every session is an eye-opening experience. I’ve been working with her for the past 4 months and I’ve seen HUGE improvements in my depression, anxiety, and overall functioning. I’m a better person, spouse, daughter, friend, manager, employee, and more thanks to Jenn and the tools I’ve been able to learn and put into place in my day to day life! Don’t hesitate to give Jenn and her team a shot if you’re struggling or in a dark place. You’re reading this review for a reason! Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Staff here is very friendly, accommodating and flexible. Office is bright, welcoming and cozy. Great location, however, the parking can be a nightmare - their lot is super compact and there is always double parking. They do however have parking just up the hill overlooking the office in the afternoons. Offer wide range of services/opportunities for other advanced, more holistic services which is nice.
