# Therapist Review - Megan G. **Rating: ⭐ (1/5 stars)** Megan G. made my anxiety significantly worse, not better. I've felt much better since I stopped seeing her. **Major Issues:** - Constantly shared inappropriate personal details about her mother who watches her child and family conflicts - Extremely unprofessional behavior: obsessed with her hair - constantly taking it out of ponytail, flipping it, and playing with it (very distracting). Also fidgeting with a clear stapler, calling it "rose gold" and saying she loves her "rose gold stapler" while I was trying to discuss trauma - Always distracted - looking at computer instead of listening to me - Made sessions about herself instead of focusing on my concerns - Dismissed my real struggles with chronic health conditions and complex medical history **My Medical Background:** I have a rod in my leg from a break, had to have broken screws removed that were poking through my skin. I've had 3 surgeries in 4 years for cervical and uterine problems, including LEAP procedures and a total hysterectomy after a cancer scare. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, prediabetes, osteoporosis, and learning disabilities in math. Another doctor thinks I'm on the autism spectrum, which is why I sought counseling - I wanted a second opinion and professional support. **Inadequate Care:** - She diagnosed me with ADHD and anxiety but ignored my depression, even though I have really dark days and my primary doctor acknowledges both my anxiety and depression - When I asked about autism evaluation, she said she wasn't qualified to diagnose it - She's a therapist, not a psychiatrist, so she can't prescribe medications **Most Frustrating Example:** When I explained how depressed I get because I can't walk far due to pain and shortness of breath, her only response was "well, you're still young." I'm 54 years old with multiple chronic conditions. I've worked physical jobs for years despite pain, and when I tried to open up about this struggle, she completely dismissed my feelings. **Ironic Note:** This dismissive comment came from someone about 20 years younger than me who has never dealt with chronic pain or physical limitations. Easy to say "you're still young" when you have a desk job. **What Actually Helped:** My primary care doctor has been more helpful for my mental health than this therapist ever was. She actually listens and gave me new asthma medication that reduced my attacks. I found a nice online therapist who I can talk to instead of taking a taxi to Tipp City - much more convenient. **Bottom Line:** Megan G. gave me some anxiety worksheets (the only helpful thing), but spent most sessions talking about herself. At 54, I'm not going to worry about getting that autism evaluation anymore - I'm just trying to live my life and survive each day. Don't waste your time or money. Online therapy platforms that accept insurance are more convenient and actually professional. Mental health treatment is important, but this therapist made me feel unheard and dismissed. Trust your instincts - a good therapist should help you feel better, not worse.

Recovery & Wellness works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

An alcohol use disorder (AUD), also commonly called alcoholism, can range from mild to severe. It involves compulsive consumption of alcohol and maladaptive patterns of drinking that lead to negative physical, social, and relational consequences. Diverse treatment programs are available for people with AUD. Mutual-support groups, medications, and behavioral treatments are provided through alcohol rehab in Ohio. If co-occurring disorders are present, it is important to receive treatment for both disorders.

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Do not go here if you or anyone in your household smokes, they wont see you if you do, youll find that out if you ignore this review and go in for a intake. Also, they are very unprofessional in regards to following up, for example after i had to find another doctor because of the whole smoking thing, they still offered me a case manager, and not even half a week before the appointment (which i already took that day off work for) they call me and said i needed to pay for a different insurance provider, which is impossible, because open enrollment isnt until fall, plus, why not tell me up front that you dont take the insurance i got? Waste of time, waste of effort, your better off going to a five rivers health center, or even a walk in clinic
