I was here before, but I couldn't remember the name of the place until now. When I was there, it was absolutely miserable. The place was filthy, and the staff were not prepared or trained to face patients who exhibited extreme/disturbing behavior. I remember sitting at a table in the 1 common area, and there was a patient who was mentally unstable, and verbally lashed out frequently. Instead of putting her in the isolation room, a perturbed male employee dragged the chair she was sitting in, into the room I shared with her, and he dumped her out on the floor. Literally DUMPED her onto the floor, while she cried. If you gave the staff attitude, they gave it right back. Unprofessional. I was there because I was experiencing suicidal depression and made an attempt on my life. They brought in some woman to speak about it, and I recall her saying that depression, and making attempts on your life, was outright selfish. Wrong message to send to someone already thinking themselves worthless. This place needs to be investigated and shut down.

I voluntarily admitted myself as I was having thoughts of harming myself. I voluntarily checked myself out because of the lack of behavioral care. The hospital itself is clean and well manicured. I didn't particularly like the food, but that's a personal opinion. But, the ENTIRE time I was at River Place, I only saw: 1. The in-take nurse; 2. The in-take Physician Asst., 3. The out-take Physician Asst The only time I saw a psychiatrist was when I checked myself out. The only personnel that I saw were the nurses on the floor. I DIDN'T received personnel counseling, and there were zero group therapy sessionns. The people I spoke to who did actually try to harm themselves and were admitted by a hospital, were not receiving treatment. Absolutely, none. If you are thinking of harming yourself, PLEASE do get the help!!! But at the same time do your homework. Read the reviews. Make sure your hospital will give you the support you need.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

River Place Behavioral Health Hospital works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

If you are struggling with motivation to change, motivational interviewing is designed to help. This method typically involves one or two sessions with a therapist. The technique helps you understand your motivations and empowers you to make changes to reach your goals.

In Louisiana, trauma therapy helps you explore the impact that a traumatic event has had on your life. You can experience emotional and physical responses if you witness or experience a traumatic event. Your therapist guides you in processing the trauma and then developing coping strategies that improve your quality of life.

Couples therapy focuses on helping the couple develop skills that will improve the relationship. These include communication, conflict resolution, and anger management. Couples also identify dysfunctional behaviors and work to eliminate them.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

I had a good experience during my stay at the hospital. I think I was on unit 4000. The people there helped me a lot and treated me with kindness. Brittany, the Recreation Therapist, was very nice, patient, and friendly. She even helped me get some clothes when I didn't have any and I really appreciated that. She always had a smile on her face and made me feel comfortable. I don't remember the name of the patient advocate, but she was friendly too. She was always smiling and willing to help. Both of them made my stay better, and I am thankful for everything they did for me.
