I got a total hip replacement done by Dr Palmer to start out, I was extremely happy with Dr Palmers kindness and he listened to everything I had to say. As a young person needing a hip replacement, he did not dismiss me, but we came up with a plan together to get me on the road to recovery .after surgery I had quite a few personal complications that we had to work through so I spent a couple days in the hospital .every single staff member from check in, to prep, to preop to surgery to recovery, to even therapy, was just amazing. Definitely want to shoutout for my nurses .every nurse I had, day and night, were just compassionate and very responsive to my every need. I had a lot of issues with pain and anxiety and they all worked through it with me. I ve had multiple surgeries at other facilities but the hospitality here was spot on. Thank you

Medical mafiaAvoid if you can.I visited their ER a while ago with a dislocated finger.Through an extremely painful procedure. They put it back into place. They sent me home without stabilizing it so it popped right back out of place and it was numb so I didn't notice until I got home. This was their fault.I'm not a doctor so I didn't know it was supposed to be stabilized.I called and they told me to come back and they wouldn't charge me.They said SSM does the right thing. That's what kathy the ER manager said. Well she was wrong. They don't.Do the right thing or at least they did not in my case. They charged me anyway for going back to fix jerry's mistake. My finger is permanently damaged and disfigured and causes constant pain and discomfort but the trash got their cash. They really need it too. The poor executive staff only makes 6-7 figure salaries while they claim to be a nonprofit organization. I tried to make some phone calls to get them to honor their promise. Even the asst in the administrators assistant told me this whole thing was ridiculous and that not only should I not have to pay for the second visit but that the hospital should have to pay me for damages. Then some seemingly histrionic twit from the legal department sent me a letter filled with lies, threatening me if I tried to speak to anyone who could help me.I never want to be treated here again and the staff that did this to me should be fired. The billing staff should be ashamed of themselves for their conductin this matter. The healthcare system in this country is a disgrace. It's shameful.I paid out-of-pocket for a surgery that cost less than this and had great results. My experience here at st clair ssm was terrible and I don't recommend this place. It's not rocket science when you put a dislocated finger back into place stabilize it.Patients shouldn't have to teach doctors how to do their jobs

Accepted Insurance

SSM Health St. Clare Hospital – Fenton works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Medica

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
The Youth and Family Intensive Outpatient Services is for families and teens ages 11 to 17, who are experiencing signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and/or other mood disorders. This 4-5 week intensive outpatient program is designed specifically for teens who have significant changes in mood, behavior or personality that lasts more than a few weeks. The program is designed to treat the family as well as their youth, prevent hospitalization and ensure a smooth transition back into everyday life.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide a safe, supportive environment for clients to focus on their recovery secure from outside distractions, stressors, and triggers. Clients receive housing, meals, and intensive clinical supervision. They also engage in extensive addiction counseling, often including group and family therapy. Many programs prioritize recovery-focused life skills training to support clients' reintegration into their home, workplace, school, and community. Evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga, acupuncture, meditation, hypnotherapy, or animal therapy, may also be provided.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs provide an intermediate level of care, often supporting clients' transition from inpatient rehab to outpatient treatment. Most IOP programs require a minimum of nine therapeutic hours weekly, but clients may receive up to 20 hours of care, with the intensity and frequency of care declining as clients grow stronger in their sobriety. Intensive outpatient treatment generally combines addiction counseling, recovery education, holistic therapies, and, for some, medication assisted treatment (MAT).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer continuing care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are designed to evolve over time. Outpatient treatment is generally categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive services after being discharged from formal care. These services are customized to clients' unique recovery goals, but typically include medical, mental health, and social services. Clients' case manager and recovery team play a key role in developing the client's care plan.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
SSM Health Stabilization Service is a hospital service that provides adults 18 and older with medical management of withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and opiates. It develops individualized treatments for each patient’s complex stabilization needs, and also works with patients to identify and develop those resources necessary to bring about a new beginning.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Missouri usually involves several phases: detox, rehab, and aftercare. The rehab phase may include a combination of inpatient and outpatient treatments, as the individual moves through a continuum of care on their recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Awful! Only 1 Doctor in the entire Emergency Department on duty during the weekend. Only 1! Numerous other staff members but only 1 Doctor. Excessive wait times. Patients moaning in pain in the waiting room for hours. Once in an actual room, patients are not checked on yet several staff members are at the desk. Came in for a wild animal bite. Was placed in a room and never got seen. A female staff member came in and asked, "What are you here for?" I told her and she simply walked out....said absolutely nothing. 1.5 hours later a male staff member came in and asked for my insurance info. I asked if he could find out if staff had forgotten I was there. He came back and apologized that only one doctor on staff in entire ER. I asked the front desk if anyone would be in. Numerous employees, nurses, at the front desk chatting. She said they knew I was there. The longer I waited, the risk for infection, increased. I left and went to a different ER. This hospital may be fine for regular doctor visits but they are ill equipped to handle any/all emergencies.

Wonderful care. Nursing staff are all friendly, knowledgeable, and empathetic. Care time is quick and thorough. The doctor on call was great. I can't say enough good things about the staff. The room was spacious and private, with its own bath. It was like being in a luxurious hotel. If a hospital stay can be said to be a positive experience, that would describe my stay at St. Clare. Kudos to you!

I have been seeing the surgeons at St Clare since July 2023. I have had several diagnostic injections and both of my hips needed total joint replacements as well as this past April with a total knee replacement. While needed, the medical staff were great at scheduling my various appointments. Dr Palmer was my surgeon, but doctors in all departments were great with scheduling, pain control, and follow up appointments.all nursing staff were professional and accommodating, insuring my safety was their main goal. The technicians i saw were also accomodating and professional.

I was hospitalized for 11 days, passed blood, the staff in the ER / ICU were wonderful, caring and respectful. They explained everything to me. The nurses who took care of me, did a wonderful job, caring and respectful, they also explained everything to me, the group that administrated all my test, upper an lower GI made me feel comfortable, the DR's were also respectful and explained procedures, and what I was experiencing. my wife and I decided, if a major medical situation happened, SSM St Clare is where we will go. I was at ease the way I was treated.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My son was in a car accident today and they did nothing. Absolutely nothing. He was complaining about his head hurting very badly..they didnt do any scans or exrays. I was given a bizarre Canadian reason as to why he didnt need one. Told him to take Tylenol and sent him on his way. Worst place and hospital ever. There was even a dirty IV needle on the floor. Totally a disgustingand horrible hospital.

My dad was there we went through the ER which was the best experience we have ever had. We were not waiting long and they had his test done before we actually got into an ER room. The staff was very polite and caring. When we got to the 5 th floor the nurses were very good and the care they provided my dad was absolutely amazing. My dad can be a difficult patient and he never once wanted to leave early. The nurses treated him like an actual person and did not rush when providing him care. They weee very informative of everything going on and his plan of care. We have recently had dad in several other hospitals and it was a horrible experience. We give St Clare a top notch rating. Thanks for taking such good care of my daddy!!!

I don't know what really goes on there, but I will tell you ,My Dad passed away there and they told me they were gonna feed him pain meds till his heart gave out, then my friend went in for pneumonia and felt unsafe so he checked himself out,his catheter was pulled out without deflating the ball on the end he was in scructiating pain later that night,he went back to the hospital he was in a coma 4hrs later, his sister told them about the catheter, they said his kidneys were shutting down when really he had a bad UTI and couldn't pee, they treated him for pneumonia and not the UTI,different antibiotics, every shift did something different with him, they would take him off meds just for the next shift to put him back on them they didn't try to make him better 9 days after being there he got sepsis and died, they don't go out of their way to save lives, they so o he's gonna die and that's it,go to Barnes

100% would NOT recommend this hospital or their Ortho doctors at all. My husband injured his knee about a month and a half ago. He was referred to them by our primary doctor. The first visit revealed 2 fractures which they said they didn't think was the problem so they scheduled him for a MRI, then a follow up visit. During the MRI, the nurse clamped down his injured knee, causing my husband even more pain. When he said something, she told him "oh well" and left it clamped. It did bruise later on. At the follow up visit, the doctor seemed shocked that he wasn't better by now. $2000 in medical bills later, he was told there was nothing wrong him and they sent him home with 6 weeks of PT, 3 types of medication (one has a side effect of being extremely irritable), and suggestion for a compression knee sleeve. It was completely unprofessional, lacking in compassion, knowledge, and patient care. The doctors and staff do NOT seem to care about the patients and do NOT seem to want to spend the time with the patient to learn what is going on. They seem more intent on rushing through appointments and seeing as many patients as possible in one day. The hospital has a "factory" feel vs. a welcoming, caring feeling. We called our primary care doctor to get a referral to see a new doctor at a different hospital (preferably Mercy). And to think I ALMOST gave birth in this hospital. Thank GD we did NOT! This hospital gets NO stars.

Do not have an older family member in this hospital! My mom has been here since Thursday due to excessive fluid from congestive heart failure. She had to walk herself into a room and no one came to check on her from 5 pm to 9pm. She had to push the nurse button to get anyone to come in and by that time she was crying. Today is Monday, the majority of the nurses have come into her room, performed their tasks and left without saying a word! We have been left with unanswered questions about her care. She has now gotten much worse… Iexcruciating pain and they don’t know why. Again, the nursing staff moves her around pretty roughly as she cries out in pain. She has also told them they are mean and that they don’t care. Then she apologized and said it’s just the pain talking… not to take heart in anything she says. She got no response from that. I would move her in a heartbeat if I could. She was crying and asked me to just take her home because anything would be better than this!!
