About St. Mary’s Medical Center

If you need primary, emergency, or behavioral health care services, you can visit St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. This medical facility is the largest in the city, and they provide inpatient and outpatient services for all age ranges. Their behavioral health department offers an inpatient program just for adults. You can pay for your services privately or use your commercial insurance plan. They also accept Medicaid and Medicare. If you don’t have insurance, you may qualify for their financial assistance program.

Their inpatient program is meant to be a short term care solution. You’ll only stay there seven days, and then they’ll connect you with other providers inside and outside of their network. While you’re staying on site, you’ll work with a multidisciplinary team of experts including licensed counselors, recreational therapists, social workers, and a psychiatrist. There’s also a dedicated nursing team on staff.

They’ll help stabilize you and address your immediate needs. Their services may include medical detox, individual and group counseling, and medication management.

People who have visited this hospital in the past say that the staff truly cared for them and addressed their needs. Some even say they were treated like family and that while they hope they never have to come back, they’d like to go here if they need similar services in the future.

All of the post op care providers were great. I was told in the pre op anesthesia room I was to get a sedative and a nerve block. I never got those things, I was taken to the operating room and put under. The pain felt in recovery was the worst id ever had.

Accepted Insurance

St. Mary’s Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
When you enter 24-hour clinical care in West Virginia, you gain access to a comprehensive team of professionals who are on-call to help you in your recovery. Nurses and doctors can help you through detox by managing withdrawal using medication and other clinical treatment. For psychological withdrawal and other mental health concerns, counselors are available. This on-site care is designed to meet all physical, mental, and emotional needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

The core philosophies of dialectical behavior therapy in West Virginia are that everything is interconnected, change is inevitable, and you can integrate opposites to reach the truth. Treatment focuses on acceptance and change. You'll learn how emotions and behaviors are connected, accept your feelings, and learn how to change patterns of emotion and behavior.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

She need someone to help her after she used the restroom to wipe her she asked and the aide asked her why !!! She needed help that's why !!! Then when it was time to get her pain medication the nurse told her she needs to lay off of them!!! She had a major surgery she needed them I would never ever go there again .. I really hope someone reads this ... Because something needs to be done . P.S. my loving daughter in law has Turner Syndrome

Everything was fine but a bit more could have been done in the overall problems I was there for. I would have liked to have all my symptoms addressed not just one. Everyone was professional and made me feel safe. The ER was clean as well.

I had a total left hip replacement done by Dr. Bullock at St. Marys and can not say enough good things about this experience. I hope I never have to do anything like this again, but if he is still there, he will be my choice 100% !!!

Don't go here. If you want to know why, you are welcome to ask, but until they have people who either know what they are doing or are much less sadistic, you will be treated like you're a toy for amusement. Expect to be laughed at if they think you're unable to hear or remember what was said. Do not let someone treat you without family/close friend supervision and please try to have someone who's willing to stop a care provider from hurting you. If you are having an emergency, please consider going elsewhere if you have the choice. I would give them 2 stars because they saw me extremely quickly, but they refuse to update my address every time I've gone there, including this time, so this is when I found out why my bill i never recieved was sent to collections without my knowledge. Former address doesn't even exist anymore.

The front desk lady was rude and accused us of being rude to her. Another person walked up to the window next to her and was rude as well. My wife had symptoms of mini stroke, luckily it wasn't that, and she was placed low priority. She had a migraine, that she had for almost a week, and wasn't given anything for it. We had to request someone from the back to come out so we could see why we weren't being seen, and he said no provider has taken my papers. When we finally did get taken back to a room after being told they were all full, their were numerous rooms empty. The nurse that took us to a room threw a gown on the bed and told her "put this on". We asked why and she got an attitude saying thats what we do in the ER and ask if we were refusing. She then returned and had a man with her that stood their with his arms crossed while she ask, with an attitude, "are you going to allow me to hook you up to the monitor or are you refusing that as well"? Then a care provider came in and said they had the wrong patient in the wrong room and left to find his patient. We finally seen the right person and he was nice. This was over all the worse visit we have ever had and will go to Cabell Huntington Hospital ER from now on.

I just had a surgery done on the 11th of April and I have to say.. everything was wonderful. I was so anxious and nervous, but every single person comforted me and supported me. As a person of faith, I felt like God blessed me with every single person and made sure I was taken care of. The surgery department at St Mary’s killed it! Thank you all again.
