This is a real shame I have been a swedish american hospital user for years after having horrible outcomes with OSF. My mom 85 had a fall and went to the belvidere facility and was seen by an ER doctor there. While she was very nice and knowledgeable she also gave us complete different instructions then what was told by the UW Madison hospital. In belvidere we were told she was going from Belvidere to Madison to see a specialist the same day. When having her transferred to Madison for supposedly an extreme situation. We were told that in NO way was she getting operated on same day and will have to bring her back in a week to see the surgeon. She got her arm realigned and pain management was told this could have happened in Rockford. So my question was and is, why are patients being shipped to Madison when it could be handled in Rockford. That is an extreme expense to put on the elderly. Normally a Happy person, this time very disgruntled.

I have a story to tell sit back and relax because it's going to be nice and sweet. Where do I start. Last year in 2024 I was in my apartment I decided to go out for my daily walk and you know what I was really feeling the momentum and I felt so good and I thought I was 15 years old again and I did so many walking laps around the building and then I decided to do 15 flights of stairs. Everything was going good right. But as I went in my apartment and checked my blood sugar it was ok but then I checked it again moments later it done spike up and I had thought to myself and said now it's time for me to worry so I wanted to call the non-emergency number and the operator had directed me to call 911 so I did just that and minutes later they came fast and got me on a Gurnee and took me out my apartment so paramedics did my blood sugar as I was on my way to the hospital while they was asking me questions. And one of them said your blood sugar is fine but here's the problem your blood pressure is extremely high and you suffer hypertension. And you have to stay in the hospital overnight so we can monitor you. I said to myself oh great. And I had so many plans on that week. But other than that my first night there was great met so many incredible doctors and nurses and I have to say I was getting alot of fame in this hospital because I was being told alot that I was One of the nicest patient that they ever meet. plus I was having friendly conversations and had so much fun talking. So they had me to do a lot of tests and they made sure I was heading towards the right track at the moment but my blood pressure was still up there so I done a stress test and they did my heart procedure and it turn out successful and they made sure that I was getting enough rest and they had gotten my blood pressure down back to normal and I was in there for a week and 2 days but overall I was getting a lot of love from my neighbors my church family my loved ones the nurses and getting a lot of phone calls in my room and the food there was delicious and by me being in the hospital word done spreaded throughout the streets that had so many people talking. And I have to say it has been quite adventure and I was like I enjoy my stay and meet alot of incredible people and I have to say I miss being up there not in a way that I want to be back in a hospital let's make that clear hahaha Nah but on a serious note I will say this I'm just glad that I made it through and came out strong and more watchful and understand that I can't overwork myself and everyone got on my case and told me take your time we don't wanna see you ended up here again you not 15 years old and don't get ahead of yourself in believing that you can do 15 flights of stairs. But other than that whoever reading this it has been quite a journey. And a wild ride and as all the nurses doctors the staff everybody up there I miss you guys. Lately I've been taking a day at a time and my goal is to listen to my body more and don't over look when you do have a problem that can't be ignored because you never know it might be in a matter of life or death real talk. God Bless you all be safe out there and stay prayed up as always Salute Peace 100!

I went to the ER yesterday for a post op infection. They did not make me wait long despite the waiting room. I was pulled back to triage quickly and my vitals confirmed an issue. I was quickly taken to a room, had bloodwork & CT. It was all so very timely. I was in incredible pain from the infection. The nurses, doctors and imaging techs were beyond amazing & caring. They continuously kept me in the loop with the treatment plan so I felt highly cared for. Thank you to the staff that were part of my care!!

Accepted Insurance

UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

As a flexible option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is tailored for those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can include daily therapeutic sessions and services such as relapse prevention and medication management. Based on your needs, PHP treatment duration can average 90 days and require a minimum of 20 hours of commitment weekly. While a partial hospitalization program typically requires a commute, telehealth may be available. PHP treatment costs can vary but are often covered by most insurance.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Alcohol use disorder (alcoholism) can be severe, moderate, or mild. Symptoms include spending a lot of time drinking, wanting to stop but being unsuccessful, and feeling strong cravings that lead to overuse of alcohol. At any severity level, alcohol addiction is treatable through alcohol rehab in Illinois. Most comprehensive rehab programs include medical detox, inpatient rehab, and ongoing alcohol counseling/support (maintenance).

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Illinois typically involves keeping a diary to track actions and emotions. Your therapist will use this diary to determine what to focus on during each session. In addition to individual sessions, you'll also attend group meetings where you are trained in coping skills.

The WORST Hospital in the world, had my baby sitting in the waiting room for 6hrs crying to be seen. Didn’t get a room until 3:45am didn’t leave until 6:30am. With a broken arm they didn’t prescribe no pain medication. The staff talk to you like trash. People in there bleeding no one came to check on them. PLEASE DONT GO HERE THEY NEED TO BE SHUTDOWN NOT ENOUGH CARE, YOU MIGHT DIE

Unethical way to care for human beings. Some of the staff were friendly but the care was unbelievably poor. Place should be shut down. -5 stars would be a better reflection of the care they provide. Update: it’s gonna take more than an automated response to deal with your problems. I just want to warn people about your services before they go there. I would recommend St Anthony’s.
