This place was actual hell I was there for 8 months. If anything that place made me more suicidal and violent than I was before being admitted. The Riverview staff were awful, one even got moved to the boys unit for how many grievances she got. (It was Kesha btw) instead of calming down a situation the first thing they did was put you in a hold and lock you in the quiet room. The DBT groups were bullshit Ive been out since June of last year and haven't used any of that. Look, if you have a kid thats troubled or going through stuff mentally do NOT bring them here.

Absolutely awful horrible and disgusting place. I was held in this god awful facility in 2013 and 2014. They will do anything to make a buck at the expense of the people held hostage against their will at this facility. This place is anything but a "service" to those who end up here. This place is a great example of why the "Troubled Teen" industry needs to be defunded.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

They did a wonderful job with our son. When our son was discharged, he was a different kid for the better. Oaklawn is a great facility, and I would recommend this place to anyone. The staff are very professional and know what to do and how to do it to help the children.

Not understanding of anxiety problems. I had to wait months to see someone. They kept moving my appointment so I had to endure horrible months of anxiety before I could see someone. The nurse practitioner I was seeing just stopped my Lorazepam without weaning me off. I ended up in the hospital and they made me suffer through withdrawal which is still happening. They just canceled my appointment again because the person I was seeing is going to be out of the office for almost a month, so again I’m waiting for my new medication and they won’t prescribe anything until I go in and meet with the Nurse Practitioner. When I asked if I could see someone else they flat out said “NO!” So now I am just sitting at home waiting for the days to pass and I can get some help, living in hell. I was told by a therapist that we have the worst mental health services in the United States. So do I recommend Oaklawn? No, but it’s the only game in town.
