About Oaklawn—Mishawaka Campus
The Children’s Campus, also called the Mishawaka Campus, is part of Oaklawn Mental Health and Addiction Services and the larger Mennonite network. Mishawaka is known as The Princess City in Indiana, located along the St Joseph River and near South Bend. The area has over 50 parks and outdoor activities that help support your mental health recovery.
Dedicated Youth Program
The campus provides psychiatric, mental and behavioral health care that addresses intellectual and developmental disabilities alongside substance use disorders. The program is designed for youths between 12 and 18 years and has programs that address age appropriate conditions, such as a history of running away, problems with authority, difficulty in school, poor boundaries, trauma and substance use disorders.
Long Term Multidimensional Treatment Approach
I like that the New Hope program for teens is long term, offering youth the assessment and treatment they need to be successful as adults. The program utilizes a 30-day diagnostic and evaluation that looks at eight key areas including physical health, family, substance use and psychological challenges. The whole program lasts 28 weeks and all services are available in Spanish as well.
The program uses a multidimensional treatment approach customized to fit the needs of each person. Evidence based practices include applied behavioral analysis, motivational interviewing, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and the matrix model. Medical services are also available onsite.
Family Engagement Important to Mental Health
It’s good to know that they put a high priority on family engagement, which eases the transition back into the community. They offer skills training that includes coping, independent living and social skills. School is provided on campus, including teachers, guidance counselors and an administrator.

Addiction Treatments
Levels of Care
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
Treatments
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
Clinical Services
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
