About Unity Hospital

Rochester Regional Health used to be called Unity Hospital of Rochester. They provide alcohol and drug rehab services to teens and adults in Rochester, New York. Detox, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and aftercare are offered. Those with dual diagnosis are treated within each program. They also accept clients under court orders.

At Rochester Regional clients at all levels of care may receive medication management. This program combines FDA approved medications with mental health therapy. Medications help manage withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and stabilize your body.

MAT is provided in conjunction with medical detox. Detox may take place in the facility with supervision or at home, depending on your situation. After detox, you’ll transition into an inpatient or outpatient setting.

The inpatient program is for adults and lasts between 14 and 28 days on average. Individual therapy, group therapy, recreational therapy, and educational classes are provided. Additionally, goal planning, skills development classes, medication management, and discharge planning are offered. Custom meals include Kosher and vegetarian options. Dieticians and translators can be consulted if needed. Rcohester also has assistance for those who are hard of hearing or vision impaired.

The outpatient program consists of individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy. These are similar to the inpatient program, except you won’t need to stay overnight. A specialty track is available for teens. Additionally, the outpatient program offers an impaired driver program.

After you complete your recovery program, the PROS program can help with social services. They provide tips for finding housing, continuing therapy, and primary care if needed.

POMCO, and TRICARE. Medicare is accepted. Please check your insurance provider for coverage and out of network benefits.

My son was in the ER hallway for almost 48 hours. Got a room and no one ever checked that he had an abscess along with cellulitis for 2 more days (they knew about it in ER but no wound care at all). Shoddy doctoring in my opinion. Then to top everything off there is no coffee shop open or gift shop open and the cafe staff just stood around doing nothing! This place has gone way down hill. The administration should really take care of this place. They certainly do charge exorbitant fees for staying here! (The only praise I can give to his hospital stay was that the medical staff were polite, courteous and helpful. The administration should follow the example of their medical staff)

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in New York occurs when family members and friends lovingly confront someone with a substance use disorder. The goal of this confrontation is to motivate the person to seek treatment. Loved ones point out how the person's destructive behavior is affecting them in hopes that they will agree to get help. Most inpatient rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families walk through this process step by step.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
For many different stages and therapies offered during addiction treatment, it's essential to offer 24-hour clinical care in New York. often involves medication treatment for drug or alcohol detox. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be dangerous, but having medical experts on-site around the clock means someone is always there to step in and provide emergency medical care when and if it is ever needed.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

My sister went to the ED with a kidney stone. Come to find out it was too big to pass. She waited 5 hrs in the ED in a room, then moved her to the hall for a few hrs then the 3rd floor unit for a few more hrs then they moved her to a hall position! In a unit? I've been a nurse for over 30yrs and never heard of that. All good that their rooms are private rooms from their renovation in 2014. Went back and forth with the doctor about whether they were going to take it out or send her home because now her pain was managed. The stone is too big to pass on its own, where they just kicking in the can down the road because they are so busy?. The doctor talked to her out in the hall now how is that not a HIPAA violation? Un-freaking believable. I can see why they got such a low rating. I'm a old ER nurse and retired nursing professor in Georgia. Really sad what is happening to our health care quality.

Your hospital needs to do better. I could have died in your waiting room. You took someone with a headache before someone with a burst appendix and a hole in their intestines. For hours I had to wait and wait and wait. From the time I got there to when they took me in for emergency surgery was about 7hrs. Step it up. Should file a suit.

After a recent surgery, I was in the surgical recovery unit under the care of Nurse Jodi Smith at Unity Hospital. Nurse Smith was very patient and understanding with me. She consistently checked on me to measure my pain level and to see if I needed any assistance. When I was able to get up using a walker, she walked with me around the hallways to help speed up my recovery. Thank you, Nurse Smith, for providing me with exceptional care.

None of the feedback links on their page work. I wrote an email when I finally found a link - because I can’t call any of the feedback lines as there is no reception in the ED- and it was returned undelivered. They are understaffed. When someone is in the hospital, they are vulnerable and that doesn’t seem to matter here. No one could tell me plans or next steps. My call button joined the chorus of other ignored patients until i had to pull out my iv so i could go to the bathroom. This is disgraceful. There needs to be more staff. Honestly the message I received at this hospital was “just die then”. When some patients got vocal bc they weren’t being listened to and wanted to leave the staff around my bed, in the hallway, laughed.

RRH follows a corporate model that is concerned about making money, not taking care of its patients. If you go to see a provider, be ready for very frustrated phone waits, endless calls with robots, no customer service representatives and when you do get one, they are overworked, lack of responses when your pharmacy calls in for a refill, and a lack of attention to the patient. They have a ton of resources but so little of it actually goes to patient care.

Came into the ER with severe lower back pain and loss of feeling in my legs. I could not walk. EVERYONE went before me, waited 3.5 freaking hours in agony. When my boyfriend went up to check me out cus i said screw it ill just go to urgent care tomorrow, they said “opps did she have her blood work done?” I WAS THERE FOR 3 hours, did they even notice me? NO. Took 3 hours for a healthy gone crippled girl to even be ignolaged. Just because i was not screaming in pain does not mean i was not in pure agony. 0/10 if i could Unity failed me so guess ill have fun seeking real help tomorrow morning.

As for doctors and staff I have nothing but praise for unity. My husband and I have crocheted a large number of afghans for vets and dialysis patients. This time time I decided to go to the cancer center. Not only was I reprimanded for standing in the wrong place, but when I gave her the afghans they were tossed aside and not even a thanks. Never again. I should have gotten them back and gone to dialysis. Only time I've had a bad experience. But not the hospital. It was the grump at the desk
