About Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire

Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire is a mental health facility located in Houston, Texas. They provide inpatient detox services and outpatient treatment to adults and adolescents with many different kinds of mental health issues including substance use disorder. They accept Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE. They also accept private insurance.

Free Assessments

The staff offers free assessments to new clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They accept both professional and self referrals. The assessment will determine if you need inpatient or outpatient treatment and what therapeutic method is right for you.

Inpatient Detox in Houston

When you have an intake appointment for treatment of a substance use disorder, you may have a drug test. If there are drugs in your system, the hospital can provide inpatient detoxification.

You will be able to detox in a clean stress free environment. The medical staff will monitor you constantly and provide you with medication if you need it.

Specialized Treatment Programs

Once you have detoxified, you can begin treatment. Both inpatient and outpatient clients will have group and individual therapy.

They offer several specialized treatments for inpatient clients including one that is specifically for women and one that is especially for seniors. There is also a program for people who struggle with mental health issues and substance use issues at the same time (dual diagnosis). Inpatient services are only available to adults.

Outpatient programs include those for teens and those for adults with dual diagnosis. They have specific groups for people with mood disorders such as substance-induced depression and those for thought disorders such as delusional thinking and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Lack of communication My son was admitted there for 7 days. I am also his legal guardian never got a call about medication changes or how he was doing. What the doctor said nothing my son has intellectual disability I should have been notified of medication changes and how he was doing. I called the nurse told me she would call me back and she never did I got a call from a social worker and she was going to have someone call me about living assistance for my son and no one ever called me. My son told me the patient's there would take smoke breaks and was asked if he wanted a cigarette. What kind of place is this??? He will never be back at this hospital. AND ITS BEEN TWO WEEKS AFTER THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT THEM ABOUT MY REVIEW AND NOTHING THEY HAVE NOT REACHED OUT TO ME. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS HOSPITAL PERIOD!

I had a wonderful experience at Bel Air Behavioral Hospital. Miss Maddi was excellent—truly one of the best therapists I’ve ever had. Mr. Mike was always reliable and kind, calling to make sure we made it to class, and Alex always had a smile and a welcoming attitude. All of the therapists here are wonderful, and I’m very grateful for the care and support I received.

Accepted Insurance

Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

I have to be careful with what I say, I don’t want to lose my freedom again. My first and last time ever going to an institution like this and a HORRIFIC/TRAUMATIZING experience at that!!!! Thankful for the FEW staff members on Unit 6 and forever grateful for Ms. Claudia my therapist who advocated for me!! As for the facility itself and getting better. DON’T DO IT!!!! If you have mental issues and are needing help I’d advise a lawyer and then a therapist because they will raw dog you anyway they can!!! Don’t show emotion!!! You’ll never leave!!! ALWAYS smile and be happy so you can go home. As for Dr. festus Uzokwe (had to edit because I couldn’t remember his name because he never formally introduced himself when he briefly asked me a few questions at the nurses station and then walks out.. he’s one of the WORSE psychiatrist known to man kind!! This facility is a joke!!! And in no way shape or form did it help. Keeping faith and knowing my family needed me home was what got me out of there. They WILL DO ANYTHING TO HOLD YOU LONGER!!!!! And no I’m not contacting no one in regards to the facility because you know what kind of facility you all are running!!! Corrupt and not safe for people with mental issues like myself. I needed help not to be institutionalized in a freaking LOONEY BIN. All units I don’t care what they say, they stick you where they can!! So be mindful of that WOMEN you could end up in a co-ed unit!!!!

Never had good experiences with hospitals until i found this place. I do outpatient services and the environment is great, it’s clean, the therapists and doctors actually care about your health and needs. Ms.Quenesha and the therapists on unit 6 are amazing. The reason i gave it 4 stars is because of the internet it really does effect the therapy for the people on zoom as well as therapists to get their work done

Special thanks to Ms. Shiela the front desk receptionist for her professional and warm assistance each time we interacted. Ms. Shiela was very helpful and informative each time I was there. My experience at BHB started off a little rough but I quickly came to see that the staff really cared about each client. While I know I have not gotten rid of my symptoms, I can now manage my symptoms given the knowledge I had learned during the group therapy. In particular, I commend Quanesha Brabham, my group therapist. Ms. Quanesha provided a safe and secure environment which allowed each client to progress in their healing. I am amazed at how Ms. Quanesha can address the entire group and still give each client individualized attention. I thank Ms. Quanesha for taking care of any issues I had with swift, genuine and respectful care. I appreciate her professionalism, positiveness, cheerfulness and honesty. I was hopeless when I entered, but I leave the program with hope.

Response from the owner
