About Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire

Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire is a mental health facility located in Houston, Texas. They provide inpatient detox services and outpatient treatment to adults and adolescents with many different kinds of mental health issues including substance use disorder. They accept Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE. They also accept private insurance.

Free Assessments

The staff offers free assessments to new clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They accept both professional and self referrals. The assessment will determine if you need inpatient or outpatient treatment and what therapeutic method is right for you.

Inpatient Detox in Houston

When you have an intake appointment for treatment of a substance use disorder, you may have a drug test. If there are drugs in your system, the hospital can provide inpatient detoxification.

You will be able to detox in a clean stress free environment. The medical staff will monitor you constantly and provide you with medication if you need it.

Specialized Treatment Programs

Once you have detoxified, you can begin treatment. Both inpatient and outpatient clients will have group and individual therapy.

They offer several specialized treatments for inpatient clients including one that is specifically for women and one that is especially for seniors. There is also a program for people who struggle with mental health issues and substance use issues at the same time (dual diagnosis). Inpatient services are only available to adults.

Outpatient programs include those for teens and those for adults with dual diagnosis. They have specific groups for people with mood disorders such as substance-induced depression and those for thought disorders such as delusional thinking and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Finally was let into the facility. No one at the desk. A dark lobby. Ushered into a room and then apparently I’m supposed to know all the numbers in my head to fill out paperwork (ie insurance, phone number, SS #’s). I was told that my child would receive scrubs and slip ons as my child was still in hospital gowns and 24hrs later, my child still has nothing. They “ran out”. So, they have a bed for my child, but no clothes?!? Make that make sense. A therapist was supposed to speak with my child. It’s been 24hours and still no therapist. What kind of facility was I forced to drop my child off at?! They did a blood draw on my child…my child gets faint easily, they brushed it off and told my child they were fine and to go to bed. Um, we have medical history in their chart of blood draws and fainting…they didn’t care. My child is there to get the help and care so they can get better. Not worse! Don’t take your child here!

Keeping my son forcefully with absolutely no reason other than making money from insurance!!! He is suffering from heavy breathing and anxiety because of them not letting him go. So called Doctor WU and Josh are responsible for his anxiety because he suffers from it if he is severely disliking to stay in a particular place but of course these people have other priorities like making money. Just if the insurance is dropped today, they will kick him out in a fraction of a second. These both doctors and the facility is preparing themselves for a long court case. Just wait where your greed takes you, Im on it!!

Accepted Insurance

Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

The lack of communication is absolutely crazy, all you do is color and go to groups that have NOTHING to do with getting better and they make you do the most unnecessary things I have ever done this hospital I would recommend they had told my roommate they were holding her for the money from her insurance. The therapist is the absolutely disgusting and only cares about the money she earns from triggering her own patients and making them stay longer for her own paycheck that settles this hospital as the worst one I been too because of everything that happened inside those walls there was only one good tec and she was absolutely amazing.

I often visit hospitals and I came in and met Shelia that works at the front and she was the sweetest person I encountered in the Houston area that day. Really looking forward to a working partnership with her and her team!

I absolutely do not recommend this hospital. it was the most traumatic stay of my life. I was hospitalized here in 2016 and I still haven't fully recovered from the trauma this place caused. I believe there is insurance fraud involved. Once your insurance stops paying, you will be released. There is certainly Medicaid fraud. I do not have Medicaid, but if you look online, you will find certain allegations related to this hospital. To start off, I have never seen people have so many seizures in such a short time span in my life. There were so many incidents within the short week I was there. That only should be concerning. Next, I was accused of being addicted to drugs, when I had a negative drug test and have never taken any illicit drugs in my life. I was admitted voluntarily for suicidal ideation. I was told that I was not able to leave and the doctor told me that if I requested to leave, he would have the police come to serve papers to hold me there because I had a "drug" problem, but he couldn't say what drug when I asked (because I am not an addict). The nurses treated the patients poorly and threatened me with unnecessary medication when I was trying to argue my way out of this "prison". I made a plan to exaggerate a medical problem to go to a "regular" hospital so I could escape this place. They allowed me to go the emergency room and I requested them to release me from Bellaire. The doctor said I wasn't a threat to myself or others and said I was safe to return home. Bellaire, however, rejected this, and said that they are a private institution and I couldn't be discharged by another hospital. I only made this "plan" because I felt in danger. People were having seizures. The nurses put me on a drug addiction plan and kept threatening me with unknown medications. All the patients were unhappy. I was told that I didn't have any civil rights since I was in their hospital by one of the staff. I also wasn't the only patient that was falsely accused of having a drug problem when they've never taken drugs. This was a strategy for the doctor to threaten to hold us and get the insurance company to continue paying. I've never been so poorly treated in my life or felt more in danger. I suggest that you stay FAR away from this hospital and go elsewhere. You will not get better. You will leave with trauma.

I bought my brother to this facility and as soon as we walked in we were greeted by the nicest receptionist Sheila at the front desk. Sheila was very attentive and helpful in answering all the questions I had. She was very comforting while still greeting visitors that walked in the facility. Very professional and should be commended. We need more empathetic, compassionate, and caring people like her.

I sent here from the hospital once and what I was experiencing was situational. I agree I needed help but I was very much mistreated. And the third night I had a fever of 100. Vomiting blood and got told to lick it up. I was going through chemotherapy at the same time
