About Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire

Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire is a mental health facility located in Houston, Texas. They provide inpatient detox services and outpatient treatment to adults and adolescents with many different kinds of mental health issues including substance use disorder. They accept Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE. They also accept private insurance.

Free Assessments

The staff offers free assessments to new clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They accept both professional and self referrals. The assessment will determine if you need inpatient or outpatient treatment and what therapeutic method is right for you.

Inpatient Detox in Houston

When you have an intake appointment for treatment of a substance use disorder, you may have a drug test. If there are drugs in your system, the hospital can provide inpatient detoxification.

You will be able to detox in a clean stress free environment. The medical staff will monitor you constantly and provide you with medication if you need it.

Specialized Treatment Programs

Once you have detoxified, you can begin treatment. Both inpatient and outpatient clients will have group and individual therapy.

They offer several specialized treatments for inpatient clients including one that is specifically for women and one that is especially for seniors. There is also a program for people who struggle with mental health issues and substance use issues at the same time (dual diagnosis). Inpatient services are only available to adults.

Outpatient programs include those for teens and those for adults with dual diagnosis. They have specific groups for people with mood disorders such as substance-induced depression and those for thought disorders such as delusional thinking and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Sadly, this is the most recent of many hospitals that we have visited throughout my family member s health journey. However, this facility is not like the rest! It was a HUGE blessing to be greeted by a kind front office staff who immediately showed compassion and competence (thank you Kristina). Our intake nurse - Kathy - was incredible. She took the time to listen and find solutions, demonstrating such empathy and care. It is NEVER easy leaving a loved one in a hospital, and this facility made it as easy as it could be under the circumstances. Thank you Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire.

Accepted Insurance

Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

When we first got to the behavioral hospital I was scared for my child because we've never had to go to a place like this before. The first day was hard but the ladies at the front desk was so nice and informative with us it eased my mind. As the week went by my daughter called she was ok,but was ready to come home she said that the staff was nice and treated her with respect, they would come talk to her and let her know that it was ok. That Friday she was discharged I spoke with Mrs.Tiffany and again she was so informative on everything, even the questions I asked. Jakayla had to do out patient group therapy for 4 weeks . The behavioral hospital has really helped Jakayla and I'm so grateful we went there,it's baby steps we're taking to get Jakayla better, but we're ready. Thank you Mrs.Tiffany and the behavioral hospital staff for easing our minds as parents and also resuming my child that everything was going to be ok. Cornelia Curry

I was hesitant at first to let my daughter participate in the outpatient program at Bellaire following her inpatient stay, but I’m so glad I decided to move forward after speaking with Ms. Tiffany. She was incredibly patient, kind, and pleasant—and most importantly, genuinely invested in helping my daughter succeed. My daughter completed both the PHP and IOP programs, and the transformation has been amazing. She is a completely different person—more respectful, aware of her self-worth, and equipped with tools to manage her anger and anxiety. When I asked her how she felt about the program, she said the only thing she didn’t like was that she couldn’t stay longer. She shared that Ms. Tiffany connected not only with her but with all the young women in the group. She was “real” and didn’t just read from a book—she broke things down in a way they could all understand. She also really liked the therapist Courtney, who played a big role in her progress as well. There were also times when I reached out to Ms. Tiffany directly, and she always responded quickly with reassurance and support. I truly want to thank BHB for not only helping my daughter but also making a positive impact on our entire family. Ms. Tiffany, you are truly making a difference in the community, and I will absolutely recommend you and the incredible work you do at BHB to others.

DONT BELIEVE ANY OF THESE GOOD REVIEWS, they are all written by the workers, had a friend who was by no means "crazy" they would drug her and other patients to keep them there so they could keep their money, would threaten patients to listen or they'd force them to stay longer by deeming them "mentally ill" or "crazy" , im sure if they weren't mentally ill when they went in they definitely are now, no windows, no working clocks, so time is non existent, also don't bother with the "yOUr fEeDbAcK iS iMpoRtaNt" BS. They don't care for any of the patients and are very abusive !!

Being in outpatient I got to learn new coping skills, learn to do a lot of different things I didn't know. Being with Maddie she knows her stuff and she knows what she's talking about and how to do it the right way. She's helped me a lot. And if you are having second thoughts this is a great place to be and everyone is here to help.

I really enjoyed my time in the all women’s outpatient program. I came in as a walk in and for an assessment when I reached a very low point in my life. Julie, the front desk coordinator was very bright and energetic, nice and friendly. She made the intake process go smoothly and gave me privacy while I had a discussion with a family member and a slight panic attack. The entire staff was fully engaged and care for every patient. The psychiatrists are very helpful and understanding. They listen to you and care about your wellbeing. Although I never had to use the transportation provided, Alex and Mike are both very friendly and caring. Everyone provides a very supportive environment for healing and encouraging the patients to get better. Tiffany, the nurse and outpatient coordinator is a very bright woman and excuses a soft aura. Personally, I was in Quanesha’s group and found her therapy style to be extremely helpful. The one on ones I had with her provided a lot of support and she gives very good advice, homework, and resources. Overall, I would recommend this facility to anyone who needs extra mental health services. They also took my insurance which was very helpful financially.

I would not recommend. My child is there and it has been rough. There is absolutely no way to speak with someone about my concerns. No one answers calls or voicemails. It's been 9 days and not one individual therapy session. No one will help my child when they have concerns.

I had a disappointing and distressing experience at Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire. I voluntarily admitted myself seeking help for severe depression, but instead of receiving the care I needed, I encountered a hostile and unsafe environment. Another patient repeatedly harassed me and even tried to physically confront me in my room. Despite reporting this to the staff, including nurses and techs, nothing was done to ensure my safety. In fact, the doctor on my case, Ms. Karen Hughes, was dismissive, belittled me, and shockingly defended the other patient. To make matters worse, she took me off all my medications, which significantly worsened my condition. It felt like the goal was to prolong my stay rather than support my recovery. I left the hospital in a worse state than when I arrived. I cannot in good conscience recommend this facility to anyone. There are far better, more compassionate, and professional mental health facilities out there. Please seek help elsewhere.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I would love to share about this wonderful life saving place. I want everyone to know if there is a safe place to go get help; this is the place. I don’t have enough room to tell you about my experience, but the staff is over the top. I have to mention Ms Tiffany and Ms Quanesha. They were the dynamic duo that steered me in the right direction. Kudos to them all!!
