About Cambridge Health Alliance

For their intensive outpatient program, you’ll meet online on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 9 AM to noon. This program typically lasts four weeks. You’ll learn about mindfulness, self-care, emotion management, medical aspects, relapse prevention, understanding substance use disorders, goal setting, building a daily structure and expanding support.

Their standard outpatient program is a bit more flexible with meetings, and you’ll meet at various different points throughout the week. You’ll discuss similar topics, but they also have specialty groups like Women’s Recovery and Mindful Recovery. If you have a co-occurring condition, you can also receive individual therapy and medication assisted treatment.

I don’t even know where to begin with my gratitude for Dr. Lisa Thibodeau and RN Megan at CHA Cambridge Hospital. They are truly angels in scrubs. From the moment I walked in, I felt seen, heard, and cared for in the most genuine way. This wasn’t just medical care… It was love, patience, and dedication to their work and to me as a patient. Dr. Thibodeau has been with me since my pregnancy with my first son, Randall, and the bond I’ve built with her over time is something I will treasure forever. She has always treated me with kindness and compassion, but during this most recent labor, with my second son, she reminded me once again why I trust her so deeply. Together with Megan, my incredible nurse, they created an environment of peace and encouragement that helped me through labor with so much confidence. My labor was fast, and I truly believe it’s because of their patience and the way they guided me gently through each step. They worked together seamlessly, always making sure I felt safe, loved, and fully supported. Thanks to their skill and professionalism, my delivery went beautifully!!! I experienced zero tearing, and I know that was no accident, but the result of their careful expertise and the passion they have for what they do. I will forever be thankful for this team. Words cannot fully describe how much their presence meant to me during such an important moment in my life. CHA Cambridge Hospital is incredibly fortunate to have professionals like Dr. Thibodeau and Megan, who not only deliver babies but also deliver love, comfort, and strength to the families they care for. They will always hold a special place in my heart!!! I would also love to extend my gratitude to nurses Karen Raso and Emily, who were nothing short of angels throughout my care. Their kindness, patience, and gentle support made me feel so safe and cared for. CHA Cambridge is truly lucky to have them, and I feel blessed that they were part of my journey.

I’m currently 23 weeks pregnant. I went in to have an ultrasound today and I understand they have some people in training, and sometimes they need to apply pressure but it was way to much. I had 2 ultrasounds done before this and they would avise me before they got started and when they were about to apply pressure, yet the person today just went right in full force on my stomach. I even started to tear up from how hard she was pressing on my stomach and I even had to sit up at one point due to the pain. I let her know that she was pressing too hard. After her trainer came in to finish the ultrasound, and she didn’t even press HALF as hard. And when she did apply pressure she warned me before hand. Not saying anything bad about either girls just that I feel like someone brand new like that should be watched more and not left alone with the patient. When I went in for an ultrasound at 18 weeks I had someone else and they walked me through what they were doing and was more communicative. For this appointment if I didn’t say anything they wouldn’t say anything to me. I just feel like new hires should be more communicative and careful. Also, to warn patient when they are about to apply pressure. I was not expecting that type of pain at all.

In here right now with a friend. Freddy Kreuger knows more about bedside manners than these people do. There are 4 nurses in here asking each other if they have peroxide anywhere. They are asking each other where to pour bloody water while I actively get out of the way so they can pour it down the sink. I have asked 3 times for someone to check out my friend's bleeding skull, and each time they responded by taking more aggressive action. Long story short, if you have the choice of going somewhere else, then do that. But if you do find yourself here supporting a loved one, do everything possible to make sure the staff is on top of it. Be your loved one's best advocate, because these people have no clue. I'm truly heartbroken by this experience. Also here's a picture of the restroom inside the ER. If the paper towels sitting ON the sink have someone else's handwash water all over them you have to wonder if anyone at this place knows anything about sanitation. As soon as we get out of here (if we do) I will be researching how to report these conditions.

Accepted Insurance

Cambridge Health Alliance works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

They should try to understand their patients a little bit more and not rush things just because it worked with other patients before. My psychiatrist disregarded everything I told him and how I was feeling.

CHA is a joke. I spent four hours in the ER because of pain in my neck and the back of my neck. I saw the doctor, he gave me two shots because it literally felt like my cerebellum was swelling.4

I was served by a gentleman named Fernando to by phone, who treated me very poorly. He seemed upset about something and felt offended, venting some kind of frustration on me. I ask that you carefully vet the people you hire and ensure they are truly prepared for the position and know how to connect with people of all ethnicities and cultures. He is Brazilian, as you can tell by his name, and speaks Portuguese. Finally, he hung up the phone, clearly not wanting to work. I'm completely dissatisfied with the service, and it was the first time this has happened. I'm always served by Americans, and I prefer to continue being so. Thank you!

During my visit on the morning of June 16th, I overheard a male nurse respond unprofessionally to an incoming patient report over the loudspeaker. The ambulance crew was bringing in a young woman with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), and instead of responding with professionalism or empathy, he laughed at her condition when he heard the word POTS. This was before she had even arrived. Such behavior is unacceptable in healthcare. Patients deserve to be met with respect and compassion, not ridicule, especially from those entrusted with their care.

Response from the owner
Thank you for letting us know about this interaction with CHA. We try to provide great care and great service for everyone, every time, but sometimes fall short. We appreciate your feedback and will make sure to share it with our team to help us improve.

They made us feel like we were the only people in the hospital and supported us through the entire process. We couldn’t be more thrilled with them. Thank you to the entire staff there.

THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE SLOWEST EMERGENCY ROOM IN THE COUNTRY I SAT THERE FOR OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF WAITING TO BE SEEN after THE CHECK IN. THERE WERE AT LEAST 10 NURSES AND ABOUT 5 DOCTORS. NOBODY CAME IN THAT WHOLE TIME. AFTER 1 1/2 I KINDA STARTED WONDERING IF THEY KNEW I WAS THERE. SO I STAND AT THE DOOR AND TRIED TO GET ATTENTION FROM ANYBODY, BUT IT SEEMED LIKE THEY WERE IGNORING ME. I FELT IGNORED. WASTED 2 + HOURS OUT OF MY DAY. MEANWHILE THEY ARE SITTING THERE TALKING ABOUT TIC TOC VIDEOS, GOSSIPING AND LAUGHING. AN OLDER GENTLEMEN WHO WAS THER BEFORE ME WAS ASKING TO BE DISCHARGED BECAUS HE NEEDED HIS ASTHMA MACHINE, ANOTHER WOMAN WAS TRYING TO GET THE ATTENTION OF SOMEBODY IN THE GROUP OF DOCTORS WHO WERE TALKING AMONGST EACH OTHER AND NO REACTION. SHE HAD TO LITERALLY STEP IN FRONT OF SOMEBODY TO GET THEIR ATTENTION .. ALL THOSE PEOPLE ON THE CLOCK NOT PRODUCING. AT LEAST IN MY EYES. IM GOING TO MY GO TO EMERGENCY ROOM WICH IS NEW ENGLAND MEDICAL CENTER. FASTES EMERGENCY ROOM IVE EXPERIENCEED. ALOT FRIENDLIER. ITS A SHAME I HAVE A MEDICAL CONCERN AND IN A HOSPITAL WHERE I FELT LIKE I WAS BOTHERING PEOPLE. I REALL FELT LIKE NOBODY CARED. SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT CUT OUT FOR CERTAIN THINGS. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE IN THE PROFESSION OF HELPING, SAVING LIVES, BE MORE CARING, AT LEAST FAKE IT. WHAT I SAW IS A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE JUST FOR A PAYCHECK. NO SOUL. THATS WHAT THAT EMERGENCY ROOM FELT LIKE. AND IT WASNT JUST ME CAUSE I COULD SEE IT IN THE OTHER PATIENTS TOO.. THE DESPERATE LOOK OF "HELLO I NEED HELP"..IM ALREADY A PERSON WHO DOES NOT LIKE TO BOTHER, AND I WILL NOT GO BACK THER AND BOTHER ANYBODY FOR HELP.
