The Elliot NICU is an absolute disaster. The providers here (not all) but most are the most inconsiderate and rude individuals. They are never on the same page and provide awful care and have no bedside manner. They are supposed to do family rounds on Tuesday and Thursday’s and include family… well half the time they never included us, and made a game plan what they thought would be best without consulting us. Then they would get mad and give pushback when we told them we didn’t agree or want something else. They will keep you an extended time here I solely believe for money. My wife is a doctor and they never took into consideration her concerns or medical background. It is their way or the highway. I have never been treated more poorly and felt as disrespected as I have been here. They refuse to take accountability for their actions and can’t accept the fact that maybe they don’t know what’s best for my boy

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) offer high-level transitional support for clients exiting inpatient rehab. They can also be effective for clients at significant relapse risk Intensive outpatient treatment typically involves between nine and 20 hours of care per week, with the frequency and intensity of treatment decreasing as clients progress in their recovery. Most IOP clients participate in a combination of psychotherapy, recovery education, holistic therapies, and, for some, medication assisted treatment (MAT).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

If you need short-term intensive rehabilitation care that allows you to return home at the end of the day, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the ideal solution. PHP provides structured programming that typically includes therapeutic services, relapse prevention, and medication management. Typically, treatment can run between 3-5 days a week for an average of 90 days. The cost for a partial hospitalization program can vary, but is often covered by providers.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I've always been in the Elliot network, but I went to the ER on a Saturday afternoon with chest pain after a few test I was admitted. Monday morning I was in the operating room receiving a stent. The whole time the nurses and doctors made me feel at ease answering all my questions and concerns. The entire staff was AMAZING! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

You'll receive faster health care if you go to Canada! Waited 7 hours before I gave up and went to Parkland where they had me in and out in 30 minutes or less. This was all for a stye where all I needed was a prescription for eye drops and instructions on how to treat at home.

Coerced me into getting someone there and then convinced them to put me in pathways. Violation of rights. Hospital sucks half the staff sucks and Pathways is a disgusting waste of time.

I just gave birth on August 29th to my first baby and can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff in labor and delivery as well as maternity. I arrived in labor and delivery at 6:30am right before shift change and had my baby by 6pm the same day, so I had the same nurse my entire labor. Her name was Ashley and she was phenomenal. She gave me great information that helped me make my own decisions about how I wanted my labor to go. She did everything she could to make sure I was progressing after the epidural (shout out to the anesthesiologist who gave my epidural, forget her name but she was amazing!!!). Ashley was so comforting at such a vulnerable time, I really cannot thank her enough. All of the nurses who came in after my baby was born were also incredible and made the experience great! Dr.Wilson was the doctor on call and did a great job delivering our girl! As for the maternity ward, my night nurse was Sandra and my day nurse was Sianna. They were both so wonderful. I can’t thank them enough for taking care of me and our baby for the short time we were there. I’ll never forget the way they treated us during such a major life event when you feel like you have no idea what you’re doing. They made our stay so comfortable. I had the most positive first birth experience and have the nurses and doctors at Elliot to thank for that. I hope this review makes its way to l&d and maternity so the nurses know what a gift they are to new moms!!

A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend and I went to this hospital to be seen after a car accident. We had our belongings with us. We did not have our vehicle because it had been towed. When we exited the hospital we learned that security had taken possession of our belongings that we had left in the parking garage. Then they proceeded to dispose of our belongings in a dumpster. And then our belongings were then picked up by a dump truck. When we inquired we were told that security was informing hospital staff to clean up the homeless camps inside of the parking garage. Essentially what they were saying is they took our stuff because they thought we were homeless and they threw it away because apparently they think homeless people don't deserve to have anything. They're extremely inconsiderate very cold and completely unethical. When we informed the hospital that this had happened and found a complaint. We were told that there was nothing that could be done for reimbursement because we hadn't notified a staff inside the emergency room that we had left anything outside. I'm not sure why that would matter given the fact that it wouldn't be up to the emergency room staff to go watch our belongings. Either way, there was no reason for security to take possession of our property.Essentially stealing it and then dispose of it. That was pretty much everything that we owned as we actually are homeless. And their attitude towards the unhoused population is completely pathetic. Just because someone is almost doesn't mean that they can't be a patient of the hospital. A paying patient at that. And it certainly doesn't mean that our belongings should have been disposed of.

Response from the owner
At Elliot Health System, the safety of our patients and staff is our highest priority. This situation is being reviewed and the investigation is ongoing. The appropriate parties will be updated as necessary.

I've been in the waiting room at the ER for internal bleeding since 2:30PM. I'm still in the waiting room and it's 11:30 PM. At 7:30 PM I approached the desk and politely mentioned that it had been several hours and I wanted to make sure that I hadn't been forgotten. The woman behind the desk acted annoyed, was incredibly rude to me in her tone of voice, but said that I was still on the list. About 7:45, a nurse pulled me to triage to check my vitals and told me that I would be next for an open room. I waited until about 11:00, and a couple who had arrived a few hours after me were taken to a room. The pain in my stomach was getting worse, so I calmly told the lady at the desk that I was concerned because I came in for potential internal bleeding, that I'd been told by someone else that I would be next, and that I just witnessed someone else get a room. She interrupted me and with a really aggressive tone said, "I never said that you were next! I don't give out wait times!" I told her calmly that while she hadn't said that, another nurse had. And since I came in with a concern about internal bleeding, and the pain was getting worse. She begrudgingly said that she would inform a nurse that I was concerned. I get being frustrated by people who are asking when they're going to be seen, I'm sure that's a question that gets asked a lot. But we come here because we need help and are having a medical emergency. I have never been spoken to so rudely at a hospital before. I've been waiting nine hours. I've witnessed everyone who had been here when I arrived get placed in rooms. I witnessed several people who had arrived long AFTER I got there get placed in rooms as well. I think it's totally fair for me to just check in on occasion and ask what's going on. If the person at the desk had calmly told me without attitude that she couldn't tell me when I'd be seen, if she just hadn't spoken to me so rudely in such a nasty tone of voice, I wouldn't complain. I know that hospitals are short staffed. I know that medical staff are under a lot of stress. But there is NO excuse treating a person the way this girl treated me, especially not after I've been here for 9 hours in the waiting room and counting. It's now 11:52 and I've finally been brought to a room and have spoken to a doctor. Everyone else at this hospital seems kind and compassionate. In fact the nurse who ended up working with me was incredibly personable and made the experience much more pleasant. But I do HIGHLY recommend that Elliot chooses someone else to man the front desk of the ER, because people coming in for an emergency should not have to deal with the kind of attitude and aggressive tone that was displayed to me today multiple times by the same person.
