So I was a patient in October at this hospital, and honestly I’m shocked. During my stay, I cried non stop because I constantly felt unsafe. There were kids fighting, taking eachothers meds, banging on windows, etc. the bedding is terribly thin and I had to take old patients blankets in order to sleep at night, and ended up with 9 when I left just to stay warm. Water pressure was horrible and I could barely take a warm shower, and my sink didn’t work at all. I also watched a kid kick open a door, and nothing really happened when he did so. The group sessions were overly personal, to the point I got so uncomfortable I had to leave the room. The therapy isn’t even therapy, they just make you recap why you’re there. In order to get out faster, I lied about my medication working.

I went to visit my 23 year old daughter yesterday. She was sent there by Medical City Plano hospital after she was in there for a serious Traumatic brain injury. This place is the worst place to send anyone period. The nurses are rude, mean and don't help patients with anything. They don't care or have empathy. She has 11 staples in the back of her head as well as road rash burns and scrapes. They have not helped her or tended to any wounds. They have mentally abused and physically neglected her. They do not deserve any stars but you have to put one to leave a review. They have not changed her sheets or pillow cases and she has been there for a week. They have blood on them. She is not supposed to drink water because of the trauma to her brain but they won't give her anything else. They won't let me give her anything. I sincerely hope I get to bring her home today so I can take her to see a doctor for her I juries and make sure nothing is infected. This place needs to be overhauled or closed. Most of the staff should be replaced. My daughter does not feel safe. She stated that a person walks into her room several times a night and just stares at her while she sleeps. She also said she feels like she maybe assaulted or raped in her sleep. These people won't answer questions and treat patients worse than animals. Don't put anyone you care about here. So disappointed with this network of hospitals.

Accepted Insurance

Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Center – Frisco works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Haven’s Co-occurring Program is for those individuals suffering from both a substance use disorder and a mental health illness at the same time. Their Program’s evidenced-based approach of medical intervention and therapy has proven to be very effective in treating co-occurring disorders.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance abuse treatment is available in Texas for anyone who's struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. These programs usually provide a comprehensive assessment and individualized treatment plan, and include evidence-based treatments, like therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful coping strategies, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help with emotional regulation and stress.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Lousy, cold food, plastic cots, loudness at night - poor sleep - and a generally haughty disregard for patients. They are treated like cattle. The doctor did not provide me with Clonazepam, which I have taken for 10 years, so I was in withdrawal in addition to a deep depression. Nor was my Primidone prescribed. The nursing staff was generally hateful although a pretty RN named Aiesha was terrific. As an RN, I am disappointed that patients were treated so poorly. If I could give no stars, I would. A lousy environment for patients in crisis...indicative of America's broken healthcare system.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!! While there are positive aspects (activities, groups, & some nurses); the 24/7 fear of violent patients, not getting vital meds (almost had a seizure due to constant eye & lip twitching), the body wash/toothpaste made my skin swell 2 days after coming home...how is this place still open & where are the funds really going?

If I could leave 0 stars, I would, the negligence, the disrespect and the unprofessionalism here is so beyond me. The nurses seems like they don't want to do their jobs. They have an attitude anytime a patient is trying to be seen by them. I deal with a chronic illness to where I get inflammation in the stomach. I was also dealing with canker sores while I was there. And I was trying to get medication for both of them, but they kept trying to give me an anti acid medication, which that's not what was not needed for. The nutrition there, the meals were horrible. Again, dealing with chronic illness. I have to eat certain things and the cooks would throw whatever they wanted on the plate. They had a lady who had a nasty cough, walked around the entire place, did not quarantine her. It was never clean even when the cleaning ladies came in it was never properly thoroughly clean. The way they handle the intensive care patient was completely out of line. I've heard that a nurse had told one of the patients that they were going to drench her and water. Overall, I believe there should be an investigation here.

I had a horrible experience here. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would in a heartbeat. Don't come here at all for help, you won't get it. I was put on lithium but my outpatient psychiatrist was smart enough to take me off of it.

A culture of medical neglect permeates this place. During my stay I witnessed fellow patients repeatedly given food that they were allergic to or couldn't eat for various health reasons. The social workers were fantastic, but the group therapy sessions often crossed the line into toxic positivity. They also lock your room after breakfast while giving you almost nothing to do. Now here's the worst part. My nurse practitioner routinely confused me with other patients, and even prescribed medication based on indications that I don't have. I'm honestly scared for patients who are admitted to this place, because the staff don't know what they're doing. It's only a matter of time before someone gets the wrong pill.
