About Park Avenue Center Men’s Programs & Assessments

Park Avenue Center Men’s Rehab is a treatment center for men with drug and alcohol addiction in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This rehab uses a format called Client Choice Programming. This means you and your counselor will plan your treatment sessions together and choose which ones will best benefit you. Think of it as similar to the way you would choose classes as a college student.

The programs at this rehab are mostly based on therapy like individual therapy and group therapy. They can also offer medication assisted treatment to ease your withdrawal and cravings. And they have family therapy as well as case management, including social workers who can help you with housing and other resources you might need.

What makes this rehab especially unique is that they are a direct access treatment center. That means you don’t have to wait for chemical health testing and you can get the care you need right away when you need it. This can be a real deal breaker if you’re in a crisis with your drug and alcohol addiction or want to get your treatment started immediately.

On top of this, they have several specialized programs to make sure they’re serving everyone’s needs. They have sessions that are specifically designed for African American people in recovery and sessions for people with co-occurring disorders. That means you have a mental health or behavioral health condition along with addiction. There are also sessions for more complex cases of co-occurring disorders and sessions for your family and other people you’re close to.

All of this put together shows that this rehab knows their diverse clientele. They understand why everyone needs a recovery program that’s tailored to them and they work to provide those customized treatment plans.

The place wasn t the worst but definitely could be better. The staff honestly didn t do their best to make me feel comfortable and they discharged me when I was the one being bullied and they didn t care, which sucked because most people in treatment rely on succeeding to get out. Not all the staff members though. I had a great counselor (Maria) but yeah I honestly would recommend a different treatment if you can but yeah. They only give 55 dollars a weak won food which isn t much and they take your stamps from the benefits office. They don t really care about each person individually they just care about getting paid( some) not all. Ms.olivia was awesome and Mr.Elliot and Mr.Jason was cool. So was Andrew! But all in all they could be a lot better .

It is disappointing to hear you did not have a positive experience at Park. Just to clarify, we do not take benefits. That is a decision made by the counties and by the state, but we don t get those benefits. We appreciate feedback as we continue to improve our program and strive to keep getting better.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Accreditations

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1992 by congress, SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on American's communities.

I would give negative stars if I could. I completed a comprehensive assessment December 12th 2024 as a term of completing my probation which by the way I'm done with as of October 1st of 2025 this year. This place has yet to send it to Ramsey county probation and they told me they would send it to Ramsey county probation and yet Ramsey county probation called me today and told me they have not received proof of my comprehensive assessment being completed at this center even though I have an actual physical receipt with the card I used showing that I spent $100 for my assessment I even called and they have a proof of my assessment that I completed on record but here we are stuck in limbo being accused by my probation officer that I never completed an assessment...... Thanks a lot for playing with people's livelihood due to your incompetence and negligence. FYI the name you see posted is obviously for my own protection and safety and privacy.

It is a bad experience for those that don't want to change. It was a great experience for me. The people there are just like us alcoholics and addicts for the most part. Saved my life

Graduating from the program at Park Ave has been one of the proudest moments of my life. I am filled with a deep love and appreciation for this program and all that it has done for me. When I first entered treatment, I was unsure of what to expect. But from the very beginning, I was met with structure and a sense of accountability that I had never experienced before. The counselors at Park Ave are not afraid to challenge you and push you to become the best version of yourself. They truly care about your recovery and are always there to offer support and guidance. The staff at Park Ave are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable individuals I have ever met. They make you feel welcome and comfortable, creating a safe and nurturing environment for recovery. However, it is important to note that this program is not for everyone. If you are not serious about your recovery and not ready to make a change, then Park Ave may not be the right choice for you. But for those who are truly ready to turn their lives around, Park Ave is highly recommended. I am grateful to have found this treatment center and I hope that others will have the opportunity to experience the life-changing impact that it has had on me. I would like to give a special thanks to my counselor Maria R, as well as the house manager Chris and client advocate Will, and all the other staff who have helped me overcome this disease. Their dedication and support have been instrumental in my journey towards recovery. I cannot express how much this program means to me and how grateful I am for the opportunity to have been a part of it. Park Ave is truly worth it, and I will always carry the lessons and tools I have learned here with me on my continued path to a healthier and happier life. Thanks you, Park Ave Center!!

I believe they mean well at the very least but there still is a lot that goes on there with clients and they could finds new ways to be more hands on, in my opinion its a good place if your ready for change and slightly into your recovery already because there more so than other remote locations there are recurring situations that can trigger you so have your boundaries in place cause things tend to slip into that place from time to time.
