About Roxbury Treatment Center

Roxbury Treatment Center is a comprehensive behavioral health treatment center in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. They provide inpatient psychiatric care, inpatient addiction treatment, an intensive outpatient program, outpatient treatment, and co-occurring mental health care. These programs serve adults and adolescents.

Inpatient treatment begins with medical detox where substances are safely and comfortably removed from the body. Sublocade, Vivitrol, and oral Naltrexone are also used as medication-assisted treatment for individuals who need to continue to block drug cravings and need this tool to help sustain recovery long-term. Treatment also includes a combination of individual and group counseling, psychoeducation, 12-step meetings, yoga, meditation, relaxation groups, and psychiatric medication management.

The inpatient psychiatric programs include evaluation, medication-assisted stabilization, medication management and education, medical examination, therapeutic groups and activities with a small group focus, recreational therapies including art and music, and crisis planning.

The IOP meets three times per week for three hours at a time and typically lasts for six weeks. The standard outpatient program includes one session of group therapy a week for 90 minutes. This program typically lasts between eight and 12 weeks. Groups focus on ways to maintain sobriety.

Look like anywhere you get what you put into a place like this. There were a few staff who really stuck out. Like ca dusty and ca q and Lindsay. They were fair and went out of there way to help you. Miss Becky is a good send. She wasn't my counselor but watched her go above and beyond for the ones on her case load and any one else who asked her for held. The head lady Malaya is one tough cookie but is thural and fair. Plus the most professional person I ever met even while dealing with all the strife and chaos.the nurses were great and the food was awesome. But they honestly need more staff . So they can actually do there job to the degree and level they want to and is needed. However the people there , patients made me feel like family and I will miss them all greatly.

Accepted Insurance

Roxbury Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Incorporating recreational therapy into drug and alcohol addiction programs in Pennsylvania helps you rebuild your life and maintain sobriety by discovering new interests and developing healthy coping mechanisms. Recreational activities can include painting, team sports, and hiking to promote physical and mental health.

This “rehab” is deplorable from the standpoint of a recovering addict. Management and turnover is very prevalent. It seems as there is no empathy for patients. The rules are not the same for everyone. The place is understaffed and the employees are over worked. You don’t see a medical doctor for over a week. However, the staff of which whom they can keep are the best thing about the place it is evident that they love what they do. Kudos to counselors Jackie, Becky, and Nicole. The CAs were my favorites Kristi, Jolina, and Jai. The nurses were awesome Melissa and Kellie. Thanks to those employees that clearly are more competent, compassionate, and caring then the management ever could be. Dayjona and Mindy in admission were very helpful. Olivia and Melissa in the cafeteria were dope! The house keeps Khloe and Ms Utah were very attentive. The bathrooms often didn’t work, heat didn’t work in rooms. If nothing else helps keep me sober, the memories of this “rehab” and never ever having to return back is enough to keep you on the straight and narrow!

The majority of the nurses Kanika, Chrissie, GiGi are awesome. The ONLY nurse I didn’t care for is Erin. She gave me the wrong dosage on my liquid Prozac twice. She’s not friendly at all. Why does Erin stay in the room clicking a pen and shining a flashlight until she wakes the person up and leaves? Why are the doors left open when we are trying to sleep? Why are the doors locked for four hours? The majority of the employees were fantastic.

This is a review I'm leaving for the facility I went to. What do you think? I've been to many psych hospitals and this place was easily one of the worst. I felt like a paycheck to them. I got sick and a staff member literally told me to be careful because "the food here is kind of shady". If you know it's a problem, why are you feeding it to us? Several other patients also got sick. They wouldn't let me see a medical doctor for it. I was also having severe stomach pain on and off and I was concerned. It took 2 days before I saw a medical doctor who barely spoke to me for 2 minutes before telling me it was "just gas" (despite the fact that I know what gas pain feels like and know that's not what this was). The place was disgusting and I rarely saw people cleaning. My toilet had a stain on it for 3 days before it was finally cleaned. Cleaning staff basically just replaced toilet paper and occasionally emptied the trash. It failed an inspection while I was there and staff just berated the patients for being messy instead of taking accountability. None of the staff respected my pronouns. One nurse (speaking to another nurse) said "she uses he/him pronouns". Which just makes you sound stupid. The psychiatrist I saw, upon hearing I am trans non-binary and am on HRT, threw her hands up and said she couldn't get into politics. If you're part of the LGBTQ community be prepared to be completely disrespected. The staff does not care and has no training on how to help us. I have low vitamin D and they wouldn't give me it because "everything is based on labs". However, upon discharge, I checked my labs and it was low so I'm not sure why they wouldn't give it to me. They did tests and I had to really push them to find out what they were testing me for and why. As a patient, I have a right to know that information and shouldn't have to ask multiple times (and be seen as noncompliant for asking). The only good thing was that I was taken off 3 of my 4 psych meds and that helped with some side effects I was having. However, other patients said the psychiatrists were very pushy about getting on meds.

I was a patient in 2019. After my father died, I started huffing glue and went here for treatment. Kendi did NOTHING for me. It was clear I was not a priority because I was not a heroin user at the time. The facility would not let me have my Suboxone prescription, and I had terrible withdrawals, unable to sleep. After four days of suffering, I just needed to talk to someone. Kendi refused to speak to me. I decided to leave, and she had me escorted off premises to wait outside in the cold for 3 hours because I asked my ride to please not forget my medicine. She said I mentioned using drugs in front of other patients. This was an outright lie and I sincerely hope she is no longer employed, here or anywhere in the industry of compassion, because she has none. EDIT: Also, forgot to mention that when staff called my house a week later, they revealed to my mother that I left AMA. I was 31 years old and she was NOT on my Hippa. This is unacceptable behavior. I noticed Kendi is still there, ruining lives and telling long-winded personal stories about her husband’s new BMX bike, etc. Lovely. Send your relatives to Malvern in Philly instead. I had much better results there.
