About Boundaries Therapy Center

Boundaries Therapy Center in Acton, Massachusetts is an outpatient mental health and addiction counseling center that provides support for adults, teens, and children. You can connect with them for individual therapy, but what stands out is how much effort they put into substance use disorder services. You’ll find that their counseling for substance use is a central part of what they do. They offer evaluations, assessments and ongoing support if you are working through addiction or substance use challenges.

Addiction Counseling Near Lake Nagog

The substance abuse counseling services at Boundaries Therapy Center are both personal and reliable. You can get help through individual sessions with substance use services that are not treated as a side offering but are given real attention. We like that the center is located near Lake Nagog, which gives you easy access to quiet places if you enjoy walking or nature after sessions.

Personalized Support for Adults and Teens in Acton’s Historic District

Adults, teens, and children can reach out for help with both mental health and substance use concerns. If you’re a parent looking for psychiatric services for your child or teen, you can find medication evaluations and monitoring here. What strikes us most about this center is how they work with people across different life stages while making sure substance use support is always part of the picture.

Flexible Options in a Restored Victorian Home

You can visit the center in a beautifully restored Victorian home where appointments are available in the evenings and on Saturdays. They don’t accept Aetna or Medicaid/MassHealth but you can still ask about payment plans if you’re paying out of pocket. The nearby trailhead to Nara Park makes it convenient if you’d like to spend some time outside before or after your sessions.

I don’t recommend this practice. They screen the patients and hand select who they will work with. Patients should have equal access to care. From reading reviews after the fact I see others faced the same discrimination. The intake person was also very cold and rude.

A relative of mine In great need of therapy called there. They never returned her call. She called multiple times and left multiple messages. This young lady was struggling horribly with mental illness and this practice Made her struggle more. When another relative finally called to attempt to advocate for this young lady she was yelled at by the secretary who picked up the phone. I can't imagine why a therapy group twould want to inflict more pain on their patients.

7 years ago, my child was seen here. I made it through the assumption that I was a horrible over involved acton parent. We went to a screening with the psychiatrist to talk about add. He said it was just anxiety. And they basically let us go. 6 years later, had a neuropsych done and he has inattentive ADD, slow processing, extremely high verbal cognition but the damage was done. If they understood young people better back then, I truly believe our current situation would be much better

Accepted Insurance

Boundaries Therapy Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Never returns calls to schedule, kept prescribing to medications that didn’t work, but makes an effort once reachable

A bit of a quirky place and hard to get through the screening process to see a doctor. The infrastructure needs work. Phone system is very poor and there have been several times when the receptionist has not paged my Dr and I've lost 15 to 20 minutes of my appointment. However, there are some good doctors here so once you get all set, you can get some good treatment.

I was a little bit put off with the intake process. The woman was kind of rude. BUT....it was worth it. They got my son in to see someone in a week which is amazing. The counseling thus far has been a great success. The person he is working with is amazing and is very good at connecting with him which can be hard with teenagers. I have seen nothing but positive changes with him since we started coming here. I would definitely recommend it. Don't let the initial process scare you off!

No clue how their doctors are. We didn’t make it beyond the phone screening process. They are listed as taking patients... but they aren’t. If you are in need of help, be prepared to plead your case to the intake coordinator and hope that the doctors find you “worthy” of their time. I get that they are in high demand - but when I got the call that the doctors’ case loads were too heavy to take on a new patient, I asked for a referral. I was told to call my insurance company and get a list of doctors accepting new patients. Guess who is listed as taking patients? You guessed it, Boundaries. The intake coordinator was unhelpful and indifferent. An incredibly frustrating and defeating experience for someone seeking support.

The intake department refuses to return calls. I’ve been calling them for 6 months, not one return call. I guess they don’t need patients.

We saw Dr. Deepika Shaligram and it was one of the worst experiences with a doctor that I have even had. She constantly cut me off mid sentence with, "yes, I hear you", without even listening to my complete thought. This happened during the entire visit, as well as the entire next visit! She rushed through one appointment cutting it short to 15 minutes. (She charged me the full $150, however). Also, false advertising is on the website. The website says Harvard educated, but she did not receive her degree there. Would recommend people make an appointment elsewhere.
