Since 2018 i have always talked about how great, hunter health is. As of today though, I will no longer be a patient with them. My husband had a Dr's appointment today and we wanted to talk about his liver enzymes being elevated. I was recently in the hospitial for 2 weeks, and the surgeon i spoke with about my personal situation told me that liver enzymes could be elevated for numerous reasons. So I wanted to bring it up with the dr if we could potentially get some more testing done for my husband to see if they could be elevated for any other reason. Well I was informed that all the testing had been done and that there was in fact a single diagnosis. Instead of calmly explaining that to me Virginia Smith, the dr, raised her voice at me, and spoke over me, and would not let me get a word in to say anything after I upset her by asking that more testing be done and the reason why I wanted more testing done. I am NOT a dr, I made a reasonable request because I did not know that further testing was unnecessary. Because again, I am NOT A DR. All I wanted to know was if there was any further testing that could be done, and I told her what lead me to wanting that. She could have calmed expressed to me that everything that could be done, has been done in very simple terms. Instead of raising her voice at me, disrespecting me, talking over me, and being absolutely rude to me. I would not have said anything at all had I not been worried and concerned about my husband's health. speaking up and asking our pcp questions about a genuine health concern and then getting almost, yelled at, is almost disturbing. So I encourage virgina Smith to do her best to speak more calmly to her future patients that dont fully understand medical testing/terms, and patients that have a hard time with communication and verbalizing what they want to say to be understood. My family and I will no longer be going to hunter health, and I suggest you do your best to find alternative care if you are able to.

Well the doctor did something to my face administering anesthesia for my procedure. So my face is now the size of a baseball on that side. Had to break my tooth into pieces to remove it. All of which is typical for tooth extraction. But, after all of that, told me to treat my pain with Tylenol . Treated me like I didn't just have a game of tug o war with the tooth she pulled and my cheek all swollen up because of how she administered the numbing shots. It is ridiculous to not give pain medication for a patient's comfort following a procedure like that.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The length, intensity, setting, and treatment methods vary for each drug rehab in Kansas. Plans of care can be tailored to meet each person's own unique situation and needs. With the right program, individuals can successfully achieve long-term sobriety.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

ICC behavioral health, I felt like the first time I was listened to and felt heard. They genuinely and really do care, they care about people's mental health and I a was able to finally get some answers after all these years I felt stuck and wasn't getting anywhere with anybody. Dr. Nuyen is an amazing doctor, very well educated and professional and he truly cares about his patients.

I went to the Hunter Health Grove location last minute because I had been unable to eat or swallow for almost two weeks. My tonsils were extremely swollen, and I was in a lot of pain. Instead of taking my symptoms seriously, the doctor barely examined me, didn’t run any tests, and simply told me I had strep. This was after I had already been tested for strep four separate times before, all negative, and had been given antibiotics that were not helping at all. When I explained this, she dismissed my concerns and even told me that “tonsillitis is the same thing as strep,” which is simply not true. She told me I would just have to “get through it,” despite the fact that I couldn’t eat, could barely drink water, and had been suffering for weeks. I felt completely dismissed and unheard, like my symptoms weren’t being taken seriously. A few days later, I went to Via Christi ER, where they actually did proper testing and a CT scan. They found an abscess on my tonsil that required immediate surgery to remove. If I had continued to follow the advice given at Hunter Health, this could have become much more dangerous. This was the worst medical experience I’ve ever had. I did not appreciate the doctor’s energy or the lack of care. It’s unacceptable to diagnose someone without proper testing, especially when they are clearly struggling and in pain. Patients deserve to be listened to, taken seriously, and treated thoroughly. Please do not ignore strong symptoms — it can make a life-threatening difference.

They refuse service at this location even if another location sends you if your DR is unavailable. We visit Brookside and Dr is out and requested her be seen at this location. Only to arrive to be turned away. This is the 2nd time in 1 year this has happened.

Just so everyone knows and research backs me up. Saboxone is an opioid stronger than Heroine and causes tooth decay dependency and overdose. Any place giving this out is a danger to the community.

They don't listen to your needs, they forget to ever contact you back, they will "Mark it urgent" if you truly need help and then never even so much as a text back. I had a serious infection, saw Hunter health, the antibiotics they gave me didn't work and I called for 4 days trying to get help the last day I called 4 times in tears. They promised to call me back and still never have. I'm a single mother and going here is free. I paid $40 to finally have an online doctor just send me the correct antibiotic because Hunter health failed me until I lost control of my bladder and couldn't stand. There are at least 3 referrals I was promised and missing, the nightmare goes on and on. If you can avoid this clinic do it. They charged me $40 just to see the doctor to sign a piece of paper for unemployment.

Today I was able to get an emergency eye appointment at 3:30 because I have something in my right eye. My right eye is literally swollen shut and I am an extreme pain and cannot see at all out of it. I ran out of work fast happy I was able to get the appointment and actually forgot my wallet. The girl at the front counter said I had a co-pay and there was no way it could be billed. I asked to speak with someone as this was an emergency to see what could be done. I said I literally have something in my eye and was told that she didn’t care and she didn’t make the rules. She literally turned me away with my eye, swollen shut something stabbing me with Constant watering and blurred vision.
