I tried to call a detox center in my home town. People on the phone had my head spinning and I was in Malibu the very next day. All the way across the country. Told me I was 100% covered on my insurance. I didnt have to pay anything..lie. I got a bill for 25k so far. I was told if I had an emergency or didnt like it, since I was from all the way across the country they would get me a plane ticket home. Lie. I left early cause this place is a joke and had to buy my own plane ticket home. Glad I wasn't a broke kid who couldn't afford my own ticket. Would have been stuck. Went down to get my meds and the last bit of medicine I had in my bottle the night before was gone?? Good food, very nice houses, there was 2 people that seemed to care about ur recovery for real. The executive director was a complete disaster. She is bat shit crazy. I dont think she has any idea how to run her own life much less the multi million dollar money grab they have going on there. Do not go to this place.!

The team at Malibu Detox are very professional and serious about helping their clients to succeed. They are compassionate and caring for each and every client. The home atmosphere is very comfortable and welcoming. We were able to visit our daughter on several occasions. We not only enjoyed our time with our daughter, but also with staff members and clients. We can say this has been the best facility our daughter has experienced. We are overwhelmed with joy as she is residing in a sober living home. She continues to stay in touch with her family at Malibu Detox. There are not enough words to express our thankfulness to the team. Truly caring people.

The staff is under trained and the executive director over steps her boundaries as she has absolutely no clinical training, experience, and value. The facilities are beautiful, but it is really just an empty shell of a treatment center. Hearing the staff scream at each other through walls was alarming and goes to show that this is a cash scam and just a chance for owners to make a quick buck while clients struggle for purpose and guidance.

For the last decade I was an IV heroin addict living in New York City. As things spiraled out of control, I found myself begging for money while living in a truck underneath the expressway. After getting in contact with Malibu Detox, I flew out to California and began my long road to recovery. After many failed treatment experiences in the past, I'm so grateful for finding this place. They held me and guided me during my most vulnerable hour. Looking back I don't think that I was in any physical or mental shape to participate in any Yoga or Laser Tag. All I know is that a dedicated staff went above and beyond the call of duty. They gave me the tools necessary to fight this battle. I owe them everything and I hope that people struggling with addiction can perservere as I continue to move forward. 10 years ago my drug addiction got in the way of graduating college. Now I'm a college graduate and will celebrate my 1 year sober anniversary in two weeks.

Beautiful treatment center but sadly it seems like a money grab operation. The groups that are programming Monday through Friday, are completely run by two clinicians, where other treatment centers are bringing in yoga instructors, multiple counselors daily to run groups every hour on the hour, this facility does not.... I’ve also haven’t seen a facility that does not bring clients out on weekend outings.... movies, laser tag.... etc. So Besides a chef that is very health conscious, Who makes you three meals a day and The fact that they provide all cigarettes..... That’s about as far as they go for putting in to the clients. I left Wondering.... when they bill for all this money, where does it go??? surely not into the clients, and must be the overhead for that high-priced luxury view.

Medication-Assisted Treatment:

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of medications along with counseling and therapy to treat substance abuse. MAT is mainly used to treat opioid addictions (i.e. heroin and/or prescription drugs like OxyContin or Vicodin). Medications like buprenorphine are used in MAT to help normalize brain chemistry, block the effects of alcohol and/or opioids, relieve cravings, and stabilize body functions, making sobriety easier to maintain. All medications used are approved by the FDA, and every MAT program is tailored to the patient’s specific needs.

Buprenorphine Detox:

Buprenorphine (brand name Subutex, among others) is an opioid medication used to treat opioid addiction. Buprenorphine can prevent or significantly reduce withdrawal symptoms, making it easier to get and stay off opioids. Sometimes used alongside naloxone, dosage depends on the severity of each case. Many people stay on buprenorphine long-term, although some gradually reduce the dosage to come off it.

Level of Care:

Individualized Treatment:

Certain drug and alcohol rehabs have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person's specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

Intervention Services:

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Inpatient:

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Medically Assisted Detox:

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatment Focus:

Alcoholism:

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Opioid Addiction:

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse:

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Therapy Programs:

Individual Therapy:

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
