About Medical City McKinney – Wysong Campus

Medical City McKinney – Wysong Campus is in McKinney, Texas off U.S. Route 75. It’s a mental health center and serves adults and seniors. They have inpatient and outpatient programs along with primary and specialty care services from other Medical City McKinney campuses.

The residential program is intended for those with severe symptoms. You’ll live in a secure environment where staff can watch and support you 24 hours a day. Following an assessment, you’ll follow a personalized treatment plan that includes group therapy, recreational therapy, education and learning healthier ways to cope with your condition. Electroconvulsive therapy is available as needed.

After you wrap up your residential care, you’ll descale into an outpatient program. Each program has a different degree of flexibility and independence. Partial hospitalization is a day treatment program if you have a higher chance of relapse. You’ll check in on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

In contrast, the intensive outpatient program is available if you’re more stable and just need to continue therapy to reduce your stress even further. You’ll meet your peers on a regular schedule throughout the week. In both cases, you’ll go home each night to continue your recovery with your family and community.

The labor and delivery team did a phenomenal job. I just delivered our 4th child by caesarean and I ve never felt so supported as I did with their team. They literally became my family away from home for 3 days. I was honestly a little sad to leave wanting to take them with me They took great care of me and our newborn Micheal. Felt completely comfortable and confident leaving with the information I needed to recover at home. I would give them 5 stars all day everyday. Thank you Labor and Delivery team for making our short stay so positive.

Nurses were phenomenal! I was taken care in a timely manner. I don't like going to the ER but, I will definitely return there if I need to.

I went in with back and hip pain and received the worst service. They told me they had no beds so I had to sit and stand for over 2 hours. Getting any kind of feedback was pointless. The waiting rooms and bathrooms were dirty. Go there at your own peril. 1 star is generous.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Don’t bring your kid here!!! I can’t even believe this place is still running. Whoever is in charge needs to be FIRED! They claim to be a “Children’s ER” but you’ll wait 2 hours for a real emergency while they take adults. Truly go somewhere else. This is the worst place to go in case of an emergency for your sweet child!!!!!!!!!!!!

Parking is ridiculous. There’s never any spots and instead of building a parking garage they’re just adding another building. The only good thing about this hospital is my OB, Dr Megan Thibodeaux who delivered my son 5/28/25. I had a C section to prevent it from being an emergency and she was amazing with talking me through the process of why it needed to happen (I had wanted to do all natural but after 12 or 14+ hours of not dilating from 0cm on cytotec I got the epidural). I give her five stars honestly, she saved his life from the APGAR score they told me he started at to what he ended at. Discharged 5/31/25 and it was fine UNTIL it came down to actually leaving. They had me WALK OUT not even 72 hours post C section, all because someone else was using the wheelchair (I had told them I was fine with waiting for it but they insisted I could walk out) and why would they only have 1 wheelchair when discharging several patients at once? A nurse walked us to the doors of the elevator and went back. Not to mention I was told he would be covered under my insurance for 30 days but when I called both parkland and 211 they said no he needed his own Medicaid number. And the list they gave us for pediatricians, I called Cooks children’s and they don’t take parkland Medicaid. Why give a list of doctors if they don’t take my type of insurance? I didn’t even want to deliver here to begin with based on previous experiences with the ER not catching I had sepsis over a decade ago (good thing Baylor McKinney caught it that night) and a recent visit last December. As I stated above, the only good thing about this hospital is my OB.

They are very unprofessional. Being in the ICU, I herd them making jokes. There was an announcement of a medical alert, and they started joking about it out loud, and making jokes like, she's probably laying eggs, etc. Their staff is terrible. Even in the main er section (not icu) they are just busy joking around, being on their phones, and they don't seem to care at all about the patients.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Jessica Cadena, thank you for this feedback and please know this is not acceptable by our standards. I have shared this feedback with our administration, so we can work to improve. I apologize that we fell short of your expectations, and if there is any other feedback you'd like to share, I encourage you to give us a call at 971-547-8009.

The worst hospital I've ever been to. They do not want to help people with mental health problems. They will even call security on you. I had done nothing wrong and just needed medicine and they still would not help. They had to pull me back into the hospital because they let me leave without even doing the intake process. Very Unprofessional! Every time i have been to this hospital, I have had to visit another to get actual help. All of the doctors and nurses there do not help people. They are there to make MONEY!!! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ACTUALLY NEED HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

Staff was extremely helpful in managing my visit. It would be helpful if a patient could call and get information directly. The phone system/policy sucks but the professional and courteous staff make up for that shortcoming.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Dwight, thank you so much for the positive review! We also appreciate the feedback about our phone system and will look into that.

This was very unpleasant for my husband. He had surgery on a Wednesday, discharged Thursday 3pm. Back at the ER at 12pm Friday morning to be placed in a dirty room with blood on gauze taped to side of the bed..very unsanitary. He was in excruciating pain from a complication post surgery. Then when admitted, is emptying his own Foley catheter bag that was always full. Only one nurse through the 6 days thoroughly examined him on their shift. No nurse could ever give us answers onto why he is here an additional 5 days. My husband had surgery twice and both times the doctor did not come see us post-surgery, instead called me over the phone because he already left. Very poor communication!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We sincerely apologize for any issues experienced at Medical City McKinney and value this feedback. Parking SUCKS! At all hours. 30 open spaces almost every hour I show up and valet run into poles. Don't want them driving my car. Meanwhile, I have to walk from 30 rows back. This is EVERYTIME I show up at all hours for the last year! They dont care about customers. Thinking of changing doctors and know I'm not the first who've left due to parking issues. And they are building more offices without taking care of the mile walk in issues because no decent parking spots!
