Accepted Insurance

Sierra Tucson works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body is done under the care of licensed medical professionals. Known as medically assisted detox, this level of care is typically in an inpatient setting with a team of medical experts that may include doctors, nurses, and mental health clinicians. Medications like Suboxone, methadone, or Vivitrol may be administered to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Many clients who enroll in an outpatient rehab program are exiting intensive inpatient care and no longer require such high-level clinical supervision. Outpatient programs typically follow a step-down structure, with treatment frequency and intensity decreasing as clients progress in their recovery journey. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care are the most time-intensive and are designed primarily for clients who have just left inpatient treatment or who are at an elevated risk of relapse.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers a short-term alternative to inpatient treatment or a step-down option after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you'll receive 6 to 8 hours of daily support, up to 5 days a week. The duration of a partial hospitalization program can vary with the average length being 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs also offer telehealth options. PHP treatment is often covered by insurance and typically offers medication management, relapse prevention techniques, and behavioral therapy.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.

telehealth iconTelehealth

Telehealth in Arizona lets you speak with your health care provider online via smartphone or computer. You can call, video chat, or send messages from wherever is convenient for you, rather than seeing your provider in person.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD), also referred to as alcoholism and alcohol addiction, is a chronic condition that involves craving alcohol and an inability to control drinking. A person with AUD must drink greater and greater amounts of alcohol to achieve the same effects and experiences withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking alcohol. Several evidence-based methods are available to treat AUD through alcohol rehab in Arizona. This treatment can occur on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Arizona's substance abuse treatment centers can provide tailored treatment for individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Treatment programs may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step recovery, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare support. Addiction experts employ evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and talk therapy to uncover and reframe unhelpful patterns. By graduation, you'll have developed new coping strategies, learned new stress management techniques, and have the capability of sustaining your recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The goal of motivational interviewing in Arizona is to enhance your confidence in your ability to make changes in your life. It encourages you to commit to change and plan for the process of making those changes that will allow you to reach your goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health. There is a personalized nutrition plan for each individual. Additionally, complementary therapies such as Naturopathic medicine, and vitamin/herbal supplements are provided.

Many holistic centers incorporate recreational therapy into addiction treatment to offer you a chance to rediscover joy in movement and motion and build social connections. Activities can include dance, group games, and yoga, which all help improve mental health, reduce stress, and develop positive lifestyle habits. These holistic approaches help sustain long term recovery.

This review is updated July, 2025. I went to Sierra Tucson for addiction in 2005. It was a decision I'll always be grateful for that set me on a path of recovery and a joyful, healthy life. Of the most helpful elements of my experience were the in-person family week, and the alumni program. At family week my children learned tools to reshape their futures so that generational addiction did not take hold in their lives. Until recently, the alumni program had been an integral part of my life since treatment. For 20 years I have felt supported, connected, valued, and encouraged in my continued growth. Sadly, Sierra Tucson has become more of a corporate entity and less of the unique experience it used to be. In-person family week is no longer part of treatment, and the alumni program has recently been cut back as well, appearing not to be the priority I had been blessed to experience. I will always be grateful for my experience, however, if I were to choose a recovery center today, I don't believe I would choose Sierra Tucson.

My experience at Sierra Tucson (July 3–19, 2025) was deeply disappointing, and I feel obligated to share it so others can make informed decisions. First and foremost: The did not pick me up from the phoenix airport and said "sorry, we forgot about you and mis scheduled your driver for tomorrow" even though the sent me a text with instructions to go based off my flight details. The only positive staff during my stay were the Behavioral Health Associates (BHAs) and the nursing team. They showed genuine care and compassion despite working under extremely difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, the leadership team was a complete joke — unprofessional, dismissive, and negligent in ways that directly impacted my treatment and well-being. Before admitting, I was assured by an admissions representative that: * I would have a private room (not the case unless you pay extra) * I could follow a customizable treatment track (i went for trauma and didnt see an actual therapist until day 8 of my stay and was put in addictions groups) * I would receive consistent individual therapy with two separate therapists (on day 8 after asking to leave is when they actually scheduled me therapy) * Massage therapy would be included as part of my treatment plan for managing Dercum’s Disease (I had to pay $2400 out of pocket for my own pain management after they said it would be included in my treatment) * Lodges housed up to 12 residents for a supportive, smaller environment (This place was packed!! Full capacity and 30-50 per lodge) * Insurance had pre-approved a full 30-day stay, and THAT ABSOLUTLY is a lie! They get you there and then want to charge you an out of pocket rate of $900 a day when your insurance doesnt want to pay. None of this was honored. Instead, I was placed in co-ed process groups (never disclosed prior), did not receive the promised individual therapy or massage therapy, and was misled about insurance coverage and costs. Leadership avoided accountability at every step, and the billing department gave me the runaround when I requested medical records. As of discharge day, I still had not received the documentation they promised within 10 days. This isn’t just about broken promises — it’s about misrepresentation, negligence, and the complete disregard for client trust and health. I am currently preparing documentation and witness letters regarding these violations, and I encourage anyone considering Sierra Tucson to proceed with extreme caution. The BHAs and nurses deserve recognition for doing their best under a failed leadership system, but sadly, their efforts are overshadowed by the unethical practices at the top.

Many of these reviews are emotional. This is not. This review is factual. Please mark as helpful if you find valuable. Overall, psychology staff is world class. Accounting practices are shady and designed to get every the maximum dollar possible per patient. Majority of staff genuinely care about doing good work and helping the world. I believe the facility wants to do good and ownership by a publicly traded company hinders that. Here was my experience: three key staff changed my life. Thank you David, mike, and Ian. I made lifelong friends and learned more about myself in a month than years. About shady accounting practices: the first form you sign prevents insurance from reimbursing you. ST will contact your insurance and submit all bills to them during your stay. It is advertised as a service to help you. In reality, they are tracking what insurance pays its patients to ensure ST gets every dollar insurance would pay to you. Overall, if you pay out of pocket, or expect to get reimbursed by insurance, do not sign their intake forums. I read every individual line on intake, and this clause stood out to me. It is not how insurance typically works. Upon asking Mary at intake: “will Sierra Tucson want me to pay them money insurance pays me?” She replied “no, we do not do that” Sure enough, I have a letter from collections asking me to reimburse ST for money insurance paid me via check. Lastly, the CPT codes are generic and broad and ST refuses to send me detailed daily CPT codes. I believe they refuse because they don’t track them. If you work in the healthcare field and understand the importance of detailed records, this is a major red flag I recommend, and caution to beware of shady blind money practices

Wow! Let me start with Sierra Tucson changed my life. I'm a military veteran who attended Sierra Tucson and participated in the red, white, and blue program (RWB). The staff was far superior to any other inpatient treatment center I've been to; there were eight in total. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with dignity and respect. The tools they gave me quieted the voices that had haunted me for several years, if not decades. The therapy staff helped me process childhood trauma, military trauma, trauma from marriage, and the shame and guilt that I have carried for most of my life. I had recently gone through a horrible divorce, struggled with addiction, anger, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. Basically, I had lost hope and didn't want to live anymore. I had an extreme desire to change, yet I had no idea how to do it. All I knew for sure was that I didn't want to give up on life and hurt those who loved and cared about me. I have been given yet another chance at life, and I choose to live it for those Brothers and Sisters who didn't make it home or who gave up on themselves before finding peace. While at ST, I spent much time with the activities program. I came to find that taking mental and emotional breaks and focusing on nature, Yoga, and interaction with others outside of processing was necessary for me to keep doing all of the hard work in therapy and groups. The RWB Program has given me a new family. I am in contact with either a veteran, firefighter, EMT, paramedic, or police officer I met while I was there. They are still a significant portion of my support network, and we would go to any length for each other because we have found that this battle we fight is easier with those who understand the struggles of this battle. I think of it this way: I didn't fight alone in a war zone; now I don't have to fight this battle alone. I have an army of support around me. My life looks nothing like it did when I got there. Today, I choose to live in active recovery. I enjoy life, have renewed relationships with my kids, and learn or strive to learn new things daily. Lessons I learned at Sierra Tucson have helped me balance my life, work through my difficulties, and see how much joy, peace, and hope are available. I am lucky to have been given the opportunity and the resources to make meaningful changes in my life. I'm grateful to be alive today. I'm grateful for the RWB program and my therapy team, which helped me feel hope, joy, and peace. My life today surpasses anything I could have imagined possible for myself. Thank you, Sierra Tucson, RWB program, and all the other staff who helped bless me with peace.

This place is beyond crap so freaking awful i literally cant even describe..They kicked my girlfriend out of the program because when I went to visit her on Sunday 22nd of june. Actually, let me put some insight in here before.I say anything so Sunday I went to visit Her visiting hours are from 1 to 4 pm and I showed up about 3:35 p m. When I arrived at the front, my girlfriend was waiting for me by the front desk. I said hi and my girlfriend asked Why are you so late?We only have about 30 minutes to visit. I apologized and told her why I had made it with only 30 min to spare. The front desk lady who was seemingly nice at the time, offered to let me stay an extra 30 minutes after 4 o'clock. Since I had gotten there was only thirty minutes to spare.. My girlfriend quickly showed me the grounds as much as she could before We were back up at the front desk. I was told we could have 30 more minutes because the front desk Receptionist said she was getting off @430 and that I could stay until she got off work which i was very appreciative of since I didn't get as much time as I liked with my girlfriend. So after showing me As quickly as she could and as much as she could of the grounds. We were up at the front desk at around 403 p m . My girlfriend proceeded to ask the front desk receptionist. What we need to do or if we needed to stay up at the very front. The reception is said i needs to sign out and then you guys can hang out another thirty minutes until I get off work. After that my girlfriend asked if we could sit in the family lounge which is maybe ten feet away from the front desk through A big hallway. mind you the family lounge has no door just a huge opening and then the lounge itself. I sat and kissed my girlfriend for about fifteen minutes while she was sitting on my lap in a lazy boy style chair. about 5 min later, one of the staff walked in who was an elderly woman rudely walked in and said you can't be here. It's after visiting hours, which me and my girlfriend had told her that the front desk receptionist said we could stay another 30 min until she got off work since I had gotten there so late, which she replied. No, visiting hours are over. You need to leave. So not wanting any conflict for me or my girlfriend I walked back up to the front where the receptionist was gathering the drinks I had brought since I wasn't allowed to bring any outside drinks drinks inside. I went on my way and everything had seemed ok for the most part until I got a phonecall from my girlfriend who was there trying to better herself said that the old woman that was telling us that visiting hours were over when we were in the family lounge had told the doc/director that she had caught us having sex in the family lounge. Obviously she is a total liar and got my girlfriend kicked out of the program that she was a part of. And my girlfriend had to complete this 30 days of recovery/rehab for the courts. Now because of this absolute lie she is facing prison time for something that we absolutely did NOT do. And not to mention whenever we were in the family lounge. There was a man named Trey.I think that was also a part of staff that walked right through and saw me and her sitting in the chairs talking. We have not been able to get ahold of him so he can varify Our story to prove this old woman is a liar on the staff. Like who would have sex ten feet away from the main office which is literally right down a small hallway with no door to the lounge. Now, because it is liars, my girlfriend who has been doing great on her recovery path. It's facing prison time. She doesn't deserve. This place is an absolute joke and does not care about the people that are supposed to be patients there ... Literally, if I could give no stars.I would. giving this place even one star is an absolute joke.

"Expect a Miracle." That's what the sign at the entrance says. I didn't believe it, but I do now. The process group, one on one therapy, EMDR, classes, and other modalities resulted in me leaving in a much better space than when I showed up. It was a bit of an adjustment being there, but once I got into the swing, it all worked out. I'm grateful for the treatment I received at the facility as it greatly improved my life.
