This facility is located in a beautiful area of Washington. It is remote, and it is the perfect place to disconnect from everyday problems. I recently graduated from the Ranch for both alcohol and drug addiction. This was my first time at inpatient treatment. I am so grateful for the staff and magic that the Sundown M Ranch has to offer. My counselor, Barb, has a passion for sobriety and recovery that is infectious. She gives detailed, professional and compassionate care to her parents. The other counselors were also very willing to help if Barb wasn't available. It is very easy to tell that they are passionate about their work and truly want to see every patient succeed in their recovery. I'm also part of the LGBTQ+ community. I was treated no differently than any other patient. I was accepted and respected for my nonbinary status. My pronouns, they/them, were respected and remembered by the counselors, house managers, administrative staff, housekeepers and kitchen staff. Every employee at the Ranch works to ensure the comfort and safety of every patient in their care. The food is incredible, the group therapy, lectures, one on one time with my counselor and interactions were very positive. The Ranch was truly there to help me save my own life and abstain from drugs and alcohol during treatment. I am 47 days sober and working every day to treat my chronic disease of addiction. Thank you so much to everyone involved at the Sundown M Ranch for the loving and compassionate care I received. I eagerly recommend this facility if you are truly ready to do the work of recovery!

The food is great but everything else is absolute bullshit! The therapists do not listen to u, they do not validate what you have to say. I was venting in a group about my abusive father and Missy (one of the youth therapists) she told me to just forgive him, who the hell says that to a child with trauma??? don't get me started on the coed bullshit, I got put on a no coed contract for using simple manners, smiling, and making eye contact with the guys when it apparently wasn't "coed times". The staff there are extremely inexperienced with youth and when girls were screaming at each other, one staff member named Cindy was just laughing while it was happening. other staff would talk about there use openly like telling us what flavor vape they had and just stuff like that. I would suggest not to send your child there if they have traumas, mental illnesses, hard time not talking to both genders, eating disorders, etc

Abandoned in a Time of Need” my mom came to Sundown Ranch in Yakima seeking help for addiction while also managing diabetes. Before admission, she was assured they could support both her medical needs and her recovery. Three days later, she was abruptly told they could not provide the care she needed—despite their promises—and was kicked out. My mom was placed in a nurse’s office, denied breakfast (even though she needed food to take her diabetes medication), and left waiting for a ride back. She wasn’t alone—others were also removed suddenly, as if we were just numbers or insurance payouts that didn’t add up for them. What was supposed to be a place of healing turned into a cold and dismissive experience, abandoning us when we were most vulnerable.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Financing your treatment can make treatment more accessible. You'll work with your care provider to set up payment plans, including interest rates and repayment timelines. Financing options vary widely and not all programs offer them, so be sure to get the full details before enrolling in treatment. If you have insurance or other benefits, financing may help you cover your remaining out of pocket expenses.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients enrolled in an outpatient rehab program typically engage in multiple therapeutic sessions each week, but reside in their own homes and communities while receiving care. Outpatient treatment typically involves extensive addiction counseling, including family and group therapy. Most programs also emphasize recovery-focused life skills training and medical, mental health, and social support services to promote clients' sustained sobriety. Evening, night, weekend, and virtual services are widely available to accommodate the schedules of working professionals, students, and caregivers.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. Treatment at Sundown is abstinence based and centered around the fundamentals of the 12 steps. Each graduating patient leaves treatment with the name and number of an active twelve-step member, and a Sundown M Ranch graduate, who is willing to connect you with your local twelve-step community.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

With a partial hospitalization program (PHP), individuals can receive intensive rehab with the ability to return home each day. PHP treatment is often an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down option. PHP treatment typically requires at least 20 hours per week for approximately 90 days. Common components of PHP treatment plans include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. Insurance coverage for PHP treatment is typically available, though coverage specifics depend on your insurance provider.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Medical detox is often the first step in addiction recovery and involves ridding the body of drugs and/or alcohol in a supervised inpatient setting. If you've become physically dependent on substances like alcohol, benzodiazepines (like Xanax), or opioids, quitting abruptly may cause uncomfortable or even dangerous side effects. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals will help manage any potential withdrawal symptoms with the aim of keeping you as safe and comfortable as possible.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab enables clients who are exiting detox or who are at an increased risk of relapse to focus on their recovery in a highly structured and supportive environment. Inpatient rehabs provide intensive clinical supervision and high-level treatment. Clients remain at the facility through the length of their program and typically receive multiple addiction counseling and education sessions per day. Holistic therapies, such as yoga, message, and meditation, may be used to relieve stress and ease discomfort.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
teen-program thumbnail image

Teen Program

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The goal of trauma therapy is to help you heal from the aftereffects of a traumatic experience. Your therapist will provide you with a safe and supportive space to process these trauma memories and develop better coping strategies that enhance your emotional resilience.

Drug and alcohol addiction is a disease that affects the whole family. Sundown M Ranch provides a 3 day family program. Family members stay on campus in our family annex and have a schedule that is specific to the family program. This is a very important part of the treatment process and highly recommended for all patients that come to treatment.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

There are mold and fungus in their bathrooms. I can't even. This place needs to be held accountable for all the things they do wrong. This place is all about being nice in the outside, but not about being right on their way of handling cases as delicate as mine.

Sundown M Ranch is a remarkable treatment facility with wonderful staff. Lupe, my counselor is a fantastic counselor that will motivate you to put all the effort into your recovery. My IOP counselor, Michael Davison is also an extraordinary counselor. He will walk the extra mile with you to make sure everything is going well with you and, if you need additional help he is willing to do everything within his reach to accommodate your need. I thank the Lord for this beautiful and extraordinary treatment facility located in Selah Washington. I also want to give a special thanks to all the wonderful stuff there. Adrian, Megan, and LB. Thanks Sundown For My Sobriety!

The place was nice and the staff was nice enough but I didn’t even make it 48 hours before I self discharged. I was basically shown to my room and left with some papers that I didn’t even understand… no tour, no guidance, just told not to go certain place but not where they were. Absolutely no speaking to male patients, not even “thank you” or “excuse me” and I don’t know how to not have manners. I have severe anxiety and was in a panic attack the whole time. They lost my anti depressants and anxiety meds. They screwed up the dosing of my kratom withdrawal meds and I suffered for hours until they figured it out. I vomited violently in the med room with little compassion; just concerned about getting me out and the next person in. I imagine if you’ve been to rehab before and know what to expect, this would be a good place… but it wasn’t for me.

Megan escorted me into treatment. She was kind, caring, and warm. Overall, good experience. The following are my concerns: 1. Most of the staff are on a different page about rules and standards. I found it was kind of a subjective free for all as for as what staff members thought was ok and not ok. For that reason, there was often confusion among the patients. 2. Condescending tones. Yikes! I felt like I had committed murder sometimes. The power trip some of the staff had that led them to think they could speak to patients in almost abusive fashion. Absolutely unacceptable in a facility meant for healing and rehabilitation. My counselor was amazing. I met many beautiful, strong women.

Sundown was absolutely the best thing I could have ever possibly done for myself. I was terrified to go, and I was greeted with such gentle kindness and understanding. The staff is amazing and they all work so hard! Your room is cleaned for you, your laundry is done for you, and the kitchen cooks you 3 amazing meals a day and prepares snacks! The staff really makes you feel like family, and you can tell that they genuinely care about you and your journey. The rooms give you the perfect amount of privacy and space and they are incredibly comfortable. My counselor Barb is the most amazing, helpful, loving, and understanding human being and I am so blessed to have been able to work with her. 🙏🩷 I already miss her dearly! All of the lectures from the counselors were raw, moving, and very eye opening. I gained so many tools, friends, and knowledge to stay sober on the outside. ❤️ I would recommend Sundown to ANYONE struggling with addiction. This recovery center is absolutely amazing. It helped me gain back my purpose and will to live, and 100% saved my life. Love you, Sundown! Thank you so very much!

You have phone numbers and nobody answers, this is insane. If you are looking for help there should be somebody there to assist you and answer. At least a few questions to let the patient know someone’s there for them.! frustrating you’re lucky you got one
