So upset this treatment center is closing!! Typical corporate decision. I am alive today because of their treatment. Clean & sober for 15 years with no desire to drink, do drugs, and/or binging on both. The comments from the new owners were disrespectful and ignorant about the process. Treatment is not easy in any program, but if it saves lives why end it. Shame on you Universal Healthcare! Many lives will be lost by closing this hospital.

I feel like it needs to be said that no one will kick an addiction in 10 days. Even the traditional 28 days won't end the addiction. There are no shortcuts to the life long journey you are embarking on, if you choose sobriety. What Schick does - is give you the tools, and take away the cravings so you can handle this huge life shift.
I have been abusing alcohol for 8 years and finally decided I needed professional help. Schick is working so far for me. I've been 81 days sober as of today.
What the treatment is like:
There is a daily schedule of meds, vitals, and group. You will spend the mid morning through mid afternoon either completing a sleepy (propofol conscious sedation treatment where they ask you a series of questions related to getting sober, and staying sober) and counseling, or a duffy (ipecac aversion treatment where they give you ipecac and then have you drink alcohol. you quickly become ill to associate drinking with nausea.). Late afternoon are various groups.
Pros:
-The medical director at the hospital is a true patient advocator. Sabrina is incredible.
-The community. I felt safe sharing in group, and gained some friends I imagine will be with me for life.
-The counselor John. I've been going to therapy the past ten years, but HE is my favorite person I've talked through my mental health with. Compassionate, empathetic, just a good listener, and has great life advice. He's been there done that, and helped me see some great perspective. His lectures are also my favorite.
-The program. Schick gives all of the same literature that any other rehab gives, but also has the aversion therapy, and sedation treatment.
-The resources. The media wall, the counselors, the lectures, the movies, the hypnosis videos, the 4 agreements, etc. There are so many resources it was hard to take them all in. But theyre all powerful and have continued to help me outside of Schick.
Cons:
-The nursing staff. For the most part I didn't have a problem. But some of the staff had no bedside manner whatsoever. Some said misogynistic comments. Some did room checks late at night with little regard to patients sleeping. Some argued with other nurses in front of me. Either the nurse was great or the nurse was pretty unprofessional. And I didn't see much inbetween.
-Not a diverse group at all. As a black queer female I felt out of place here. It's mostly white men in their 30s and 40s.

ICS is the most wonderful, supportive, unique, caring and committed group of people I have encountered in my recovery process. I have been on this journey for 9+ years, and ICS has been apart of it the entire time. The space created by Dennis in my group sessions, is beyond the words I am going to use..he is informative, brilliant with his delivery, kind and sensitive to each individual, honors everyones place in life, offers such incredible support to the group as a whole. Scott has been my individual therapist for almost two years, and I have expanded into a new person because of him. The care, attention to my well-being, the emotionally safe space he has created, has allowed to me understand who I truly am. I can not thank the team of ICS for their care and commitment to helping the folks that come to them. For showing up the way that they do every session and for fully offering every bit of knowledge they can to the ones that want to do the work with them. I would not be in the place that I am, living my best life, with more compassion and understanding of who I am and how I want to show up in the world, if it were not for ICS being apart of my life.

I transfered to Wecare for a while it's way closer to my home. But I'm not daily, and they will work with you, from where you are. They'll get around all the unnecessary red tape and BS they can, and every time I make my dose, it's high 5s and smiles all the way from the staff. They make you feel wanted, and you can't exaggerate how much some of us need that now. To me, it's worth the extra few miles... I'm driving though, not everyone has been as lucky as me on that so this is just my calculation and experience. Chin up.

i’m not sure if she still works with sound health but jessica was a wonderful psychologist for me. living in seattle was hell and weekly appointments with her made it bearable. although the northgate building is in a rough area, Jessica and staff alike created a home-like environment for me and i was able to rely on it heavily. even a year + later the warmth and kindness shown to me by jessica, kate, and carly ruminate in my mind like a safety blanket. dr.pascoe was lovely as well.
weekly dbt and relationship group meetings including other like minded teens provided me with a sense of belonging and family. with an abusive home life and challenging school environment, the group therapy i attended was the loving community i needed. i still have the therapy worksheets as memories and references from our sessions together. i think about them often and hope their doing well.
the impact they’ve had on me is immeasurable, and for that i’m truly so grateful. i miss them dearly, as they were a resource for me when i was desperate for an outlet. someday i hope to provide someone with the same compassion and support that was given to me. the gratitude i hold for them is infinite, i wouldn’t be where i am today without them. ❤️🥹

Kent, WA | John Volken Academy in Kent, Washington, helps men overcome addiction. The Kent campus provides a real-world approach that empowers residents to take charge of their future. Their program is designed to give each individual the tools they need to live independently, find meaningful employment, and build connections with others. Sobriety as Well as | Treatments Programs Payment Options | The recent review that Harisa posted is very similar to to my experiences. I had been seeing Faduma Haji Ali (who is wonderful, caring, and excellent in her practice) for years. It seems that through the acquisition of ABHC by DiscoveryMD, Mrs. Haji Ali had been from what I assume removed from her role in the offices. I get it, things happen. What I don't get was the events that had occurred after. Imagine yourself receiving care from the same provider for years and suddenly, out of the blue, you receive this email.
-
Dear Client,
We are writing to notify you that we, Associated Behavioral Health Care-ABHC, has joined Discovery Behavioral Health and re-established our practice as “DiscoveryMD (DMD) of Washington”.
As a result of the transition, we assessed our service locations, staffing, staff specialties, service protocols, wait times, and levels of service.
The assessment revealed that we should shift our practice focus to patients with depressive disorders. Our new service array will incorporate special tools such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), as well as mental health and substance use disorder counseling. Our North Seattle (Northgate) location closed on February 1, 2023. We will continue to operate our remaining clinics in Bellevue, Kent and Renton.
Finally, our provider staff has changed and the provider you have been working with is no longer with our practice.
With this shift in scope, type, and location of practice, we are unable to continue as your provider. Please contact your health insurance company to find a provider that takes your insurance company. If you need medication refills until you establish care with a new provider, please contact your primary care doctor who should be able to refill your medications for you. If the wait to get into your primary care doctor is too long, you may try an urgent care center. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
It has been a privilege to serve you and we wish you all the best.
-
Not a pleasant message to receive, right? The very next day, I visited their office and, I will admit, the staff in the offices were as nice as they could be given the situation. Regardless, I was essentially told "tough luck, there's nothing we can do for you anymore". I was given ZERO options in terms of meeting with a new physician in the office or assistance with medication management while searching for a new care provider.
tl;dr
I received excellent care through ABHC for 5+ years while it was around, but this new company, DiscoveryMD, immediately kicked me to the curb in one of the coldest ways possible, an unannounced copy-paste email late in the evening. It's disgusting. MY ADVICE: check out ZocDoc and find a care provider there, they offer plenty of options and helped me find a new care provider quickly after this disaster unfolded. Stay far, far, FAR away from here.

I’ve never experienced what I experienced at ABHC Kent. I was seeing Faduma for more than a year. She was such a great provider who was taking my issues seriously. She was the one who filled out my FMLA paperwork back in October last year (2022). I received a FMLA paperwork from my employer in March 2023 to send it to my provider to fill it out (it needs to be done every 6 months), faxed the paperwork to ABHC Kent on March 21st asking them to get complete and fax it to the fax number provided, with a long message explaining all I’ve done in the past 6 months. I was waited till March 27th when I gave them a call to check if they took care of the FMLA form because the completed form needs to be returned to my employer on 3/31 in order to continue having FMLA available as needed. They told me they received the paperwork on 3/21 and I was “discharged” the same day because my provider (therapist) is no longer with them. Her last day was on 3/7. I told them I‘ve never received an information about my provider leaving their facility what they’re supposed to do. After talking to someone, the lady told me she will give the form to another provider and asked me to call the next day (3/28) what I did just to hear the same thing what I’ve heard the day before. I explained to that lady again what is going on. She put me on hold and after short period of time Sandra R. (didn’t want to give me her last name) was on the phone telling me they don’t have enough providers to help me with my paperwork. She told me to go to my family doctor to ask her to fill out the form (mental health related). I was very upset for what they did to me. Today is 3/29 and I have 2 days to get the paperwork filled out and sent back what is impossible. I can lose my job if I miss a day because I don’t have my paperwork that will excuse me for it. This is the worst place I’ve ever visited in my life. They’re showing how much they care about people with mental issues and what’s going to happen with them. Stay away from places like this!

I worked with Emily years ago. The effects were such that after a couple years of recovery I realized just how healing and profound her help was. I lucked out finding this place and highly recommend!

Bellevue, WA | Located in Bellevue, Washington, Sound Behavioral Health is an addiction and mental health facility that seeks to offer quality care to adults, children, and adolescents in need. The facility helps clients address issues with addiction and mental illness. Sound Behavioral Health is an approved provider for Medicare and health/managed care plans. S | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Ignatius is a rare and extraordinary counselor. As someone in my mid-forties experienced with excellent therapists (EMDR, lifespan integration, NVC), I hold a high bar—and Ignatius exceeds it. My elementary-aged son lights up when it’s time for sessions—he walks out taller, more grounded, and equipped with tangible skills for emotional regulation and lasting resilience. Ignatius brings an extraordinary depth of skill and presence, meeting my son exactly where he is and supporting him through both a complex co-parenting dynamic and challenges with a bully at school. The growth has been truly transformative. Forever grateful!

So to preface, I’m giving my current therapist 5 stars 100%. She’s super helpful and has been a tremendous help!!
As for past care, I’d say it’s quite rocky. Some therapists and psychiatrists that I worked with were good, while others not so much. Maybe we just didn’t fit, maybe they just weren’t that good, who cares. I think this is a great place to get help when you need it. If I wasn’t seeing my current therapist I’d probably rate a 3 or lower because trying to contact psychiatrists, can be a grueling process when in between appointments. And sometimes it felt like I was a “trial run” with some seemingly inexperienced therapists. As seen by reviews though, you have to have your own experience here to draw a conclusion on if you like it.

Will update my review in the future if needed. So far care has been excellent, I did a walk-in and got an intake the same day, then got assigned a counselor right away who has been on time and communicative about appointments. Starting med management soon, the waitlist was actually shorter than estimated. Friendly front desk staff. Clean and attractive facility with good privacy features. Can always find a parking space in the medium-sized parking lot.

The staff are friendly and professional. My issue was not getting consistent care because of many appointments having to be rescheduled, but it was for very understandable reasons. Regardless, it set me back on my personal progress and progress on my treatment. My other issue was that unfortunately, they had a change in staff resulting in me not being able to get all the types of treatment that I was looking for.
