Amend helped me when I was in a very dark place and unable to function in my day to day life anymore. The staff was wonderful from the intake through the last day I was there. I felt cared for and treated like a person that matters and has value. I was able to work through past traumas and find ways to move forward in a healthy manner with appropriate boundaries. The staff and the therapists are all top notch. I believe in their programs so much that both of my daughters are going through Amend program now. If anyone needs a helping hand, the fact that it is a beautiful setting is secondary to their approach to treat your mind, body, and soul. They actually give you an opportunity to find a way to work through your problems in a way that is more fun such as music therapy, horse therapy, art therapy, yoga, acupuncture, cupping, and they also have DBT and Psycho Ed classes that are so helpful. I left there with a long reading list and that is keeping me engaged in what I learned. I will admit that went into the program with the approach of, “I will do anything they ask of me and I will work the hardest I’ve ever worked”. That makes a huge difference as well. The effects of their efforts, and mine, will stay with me forever. They helped me change my life.

Food was good sometimes. Staff was horrible and disrespectful, very immature and not trained well. Zero experience with patients on the spectrum. Staff would touch me and other patients causing outbursts. Played a therapy game and one of staff said they wouldn’t trust a person with hallucinations. Failed to diagnose me with anything or provide any sort of documents after my 3 month stay. Said everything I said was confidential and signed a contract, yet they told my parents things I didn’t disclose (I’m an adult). There were only about two people who were genuinely kind there. The rest of the staff gave judgy highschooler vibes. I had to calm another patient down MYSELF because the staff had no idea what to do. I got an infection from self harm while staying there and they did not take me to the hospital till I asked. Not disability friendly at all, they are ableist and will forcefully remove you from the property/program. I do not recommend to anyone with chronic illnesses/disabilities/mood disorders. Seems they only cater to low level depression. It felt like a very restrictive vacation, and not a place that would help me overcome my mental illnesses or even give me coping mechanisms. Why would drawing a family tree help in anyway with schizophrenia.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab provides intensive treatment for clients exiting detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient care reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client's needs and the program's design. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.

Treatments

Alcoholism, or alcohol use disorder (AUD), is defined by alcohol dependence. This is a state the body reaches when it experiences withdrawal symptoms in the absence of alcohol. A person who has AUD craves alcohol and continues to drink despite adverse consequences. Because withdrawing from alcohol can pose health risks, individuals with AUD should seek professional alcohol rehab in California to overcome their alcohol addiction. This process typically involves medical detox, rehabilitation, and maintenance.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

In California, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs offer comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Programs include medically assisted detox, intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential rehab, and partial hospitalization. Using an evidence-based approach, clinicians utilize therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy and mindfulness to address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health challenges. Additional services include 12-Step recovery, group therapy, family counseling, and relapse prevention to promote sustained recovery.

Inpatient treatment for drug and alcohol addiction with a focus on mental health is a good fit for people who need closer monitoring and care. Treatment may occur in a hospital setting, a clinic, or a luxury rehab center. Mental health counselors and staff are available 24/7. Therapies typically include group and individual counseling, relapse prevention education, and emotional coping skills training.

In California, substance abuse treatment programs can help individuals with any type of substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. These rehab programs typically encompass various levels of care, including medically assisted detox, intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential rehab, and partial hospitalization. Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

During group therapy, men and women learn to express their emotions openly in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and reduces feelings of social isolation that are often associated with addiction.

Individual therapy for drug addiction includes a customized treatment plan that considers your history and life circumstances. During your therapy sessions, the therapist helps you uncover underlying issues and triggers for addictive behavior that support a holistic approach to recovery.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Family therapy offers a platform for members to have an open dialogue about the challenges that addiction has placed on the family unit. Through guided sessions, therapists can help families develop healthy communication skills and address unresolved issues. By working together toward a common goal, they help to support their loved one's sobriety.

The use of experiential therapy can be helpful for the treatment of behavioral disorders, including drug and alcohol addiction. This method teaches you how to release negative emotions and cope with pain from the past. Activities such as art, music, and animal care are used to facilitate this process.

where can I even begin to describe the way Amend has transformed my life. My journey with Amend has in a mere couple of months has in short saved my life. It was the catalyst for the change that I was seeking for years after debilitating struggle. with a multitude of mental health issues, trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression, maladaptive coping skills, eating disorder and other issues I was stuck, lost and scared. After experiencing other treatment centers and hospitalizations that have left me with PTSD and left more scars, I lost trust that there was every going to be a safe center that would truly help and get to the root issues. However I came to a point in which I knew I could no longer proceed and after countless hours of research and hope, I stumbled across Amend.. and from the very first phone call that terrified me to ask about their program, to the last glance as I discharged from this safe haven, was I met with the kindest, most genuine, loving support that changed everything for me. You will not be a client, or patient. You will be a human here. You will be treated with the utmost respect, autonomy, and dignity. Amend is not a business, and everyone who “works” here is not for money or because it is their responsibility. Every staff is there because they themselves understand that being human is difficult, and they firsthand understand how crucial mental health is. They are there because of their passion to help others find themselves once again and live a life that is fulfilling, authentic, and meaningful.. something each human being deserves. And with this intention, Amend takes a whole different approach to mental health treatment. They believe that Mental health is very individualized and complex and thus approach your treatment personally crafted for your recovery. Taking in only up to 6 clients at a time, the connections, vulnerability and friendships that occur are raw, real, and everlasting. You work with your main therapist, secondary therapist and family therapist 5 to 6 times a week.. and that’s not including the everyday groups, that take healing and recovery to another level. Self love , art therapy, seeking safety, DBT, identity, epigenetic and daily process groups each serve their purpose to allow space for each person to explore themselves, to learn, to heal, to grow, to forgive and make AMENDS with your life. Asking for help is the very hardest step but it is the most important on a path that will be painful, beautiful, confusing, exhilarating, scary, and liberating. It’s not just 30 days of therapy.. its 30 days of learning about yourself in ways you didn’t know possible.. That you are worthy of peace, love, and connection.. all pillars that Amend helps shape, and cultivate. It’s 30 days where you will most likely try things that open your eyes to a whole new perspective and relationship with others, yourself and the world. Holistic, integrative therapies and activities are daily that all aid into your treatment. My personal favorite was equine therapy (Leo will always hold a special place in my heart) surfing, movement group with the one and only Megan, reiki were invigorating. Drama and music therapy, Sound baths, puppy therapy, weekend outings, Daily beech walks and hiking was serene and soothing. Chef Emily and Chef Matt, and Chef Mani might forever change your standards of food as they create the most delicious, balanced, nourishing meals, To Madeline, Mathew, Daniel Shira, Jo, Tracy, Dr. Gindi, and Sarah as part of my team I am forever grateful for you not only helped me find myself when I was stumbling blind, You helped me realize that genuine connection and recovery is possible. And to all the CA’s you all will be a part of my life forever! To everyone I shared a moment with Amend, thank you. To everyone who read this far, all I have left to say is take the chance. Do this for yourself knowing that you deserve to be happy and get help from a place that will do everything to foster this.

I helped facilitate care for a dear friend at Amend. I was skeptical about any mental health program, but was blown away by the level of care at the facility. The whole team went above and beyond to ensure comfort and the best level of care in a way that is indescribable. I really do not have anything negative to say. Every aspect of the program and facility is 100/10. I would highly recommend Amend to anyone struggling with mental health.

The staff and facilitators at Amend are the most caring, supportive, and talented group of people you could hope to find for this kind of treatment. They are acutely skilled in various modalities and readily available to guide you on your individualized path of healing and mental health recovery. My time here was mentally, emotionally, and physically healing. I have a much better understanding of myself, my coping mechanisms, and what is required moving forward in a healthy and sustainable manner. I couldn’t not recommend Amend higher. This is a special place filled with loving people. I’m eternally grateful for my time here.

As parents, we paid for our daughter to be treated at Amend. Her depression was at an all time low. We live out of state from California and I had been talking with Zane asking questions if the 30 day treatment at Amend would be the help our daughter needed. At first Zane was very responsive, calling me back, answering questions and text messages, however once we were paid in full and Ella was at the facility I never heard from Zane again. I had messaged him concerned because I was originally told our daughter could be followed by one of their psychiatrists after returning home, but our daughter was told we would need to find a local psychiatrist. This was one of the main reasons we went with Amend, to have a top notch psychiatrist. I contacted Zane right away hoping our daughter was mistaken, but never heard back from him. I also had contacted Zane saying my daughter was struggling and wanted to leave Amend and again, no response. Amend did change her counselor (Cecilia) who was able to connect with our daughter, but the first couple days back home the counselor was no longer working with Amend. As far as a psychiatrist, her psychiatrist through Amend advised us to call a local university or hospital and ask for one of their psychiatrists as he could not treat our daughter out of state. If it were that easy, we would’ve already done it. Basically, there was little support while at the facility and no support once our daughter left. Our daughter made no significant progress attending Amend and it definitely wasn’t worth the money.

“Thank you” is not sufficient to express how much everyone at Amend helped me during my 6 week stay. When I first arrived at Amend, I felt nearly hopeless, my future felt entirely dark, and I was in near constant physical and emotional pain. Every day I was there there was so full, rich, and purposeful, and the people working there all held such unconditional positive regard for me. These key aspects of Amend helped to remind me that I am a worthwhile person and my life and future are full of potential.

I was pretty terrified to go to a mental health facility so I told myself I’d stay two weeks. As soon as I walked in, I knew this place was special! It was such a mix of wellness, therapy and fun. The therapy was truly top notch! I came home with skills I wish I’d learned in my 20’s. But hence, I’m in my 50’s. Clients ranged in age from 20-60s. But all were so supportive and really incredible. Every single person who works here was next level. Thoughtful. Supportive. Inspiring! I’m in my 50s and I tried surfing, pickleball, reiki, drumboxing (don’t need to do that one again!) and so many other new firsts! I ended up extending my stay and completed the four weeks! I was so well cared for it was hard to leave! Anyway, I couldn’t recommend this place more highly!

Very poor experience with a loved one here. They promised 8 weeks of aftercare, which we expected to be with a licensed healthcare professional, but they actually just meant a person they hired with no formal training would email you if you had questions. They sent the person home without 2 weeks of medication and/or follow-ups scheduled. They did not pick up the medications prescribed to that person in residential. They also assured that they would get money back from insurance, but did not help in this category and made client pay out of pocket for the whole stay even though they assured us they had "excellent insurance." Overall poor standard of care, would not recommend.
