I strongly advise against going to this medical practice. My experience highlighted a severe lack of communication and a disregard for patient well-being.For over a decade, I have managed chronic pain with medication, including Hydrocodone (which had become ineffective). In anticipation of my first appointment with a pain management specialist on February 19th, I decided to discontinue refilling my Hydrocodone prescription.Unexpectedly, on February 10th, I developed appendicitis and required an emergency appendectomy with an overnight hospital stay. Upon discharge, despite repeatedly informing the hospital staff that I had no remaining pain medication at home due to preparing for my pain management appointment, I was prescribed only nine Hydrocodone pills. The prescription label explicitly stated that these were "to GO ALONG WITH" my existing chronic pain medication, which I had not refilled.Consequently, I was abruptly transitioned from intravenous Dilaudid in the hospital to virtually no pain relief at home. For three days, I endured severe post-operative pain, relying solely on Tylenol and marijuana while desperately trying to get assistance from my doctor, Carolyn Ferguson. On two consecutive days, I spoke with triage nurses who assured me my situation would be treated urgently. However, I received no communication. It was only on the third day that I discovered, through my health portal, that the surgical doctor had called in a prescription that day. Reviewing the messages between the doctors, I was dismayed to see a statement suggesting I had failed to inform them of my medication situation. I immediately responded, refuting this claim, as there was absolutely no possibility I would have neglected to mention my chronic pain and lack of medication, especially in the context of post-surgical pain. The breakdown in communication within this office was shocking, and their claim of prioritizing "doing no harm" felt like a cruel joke. The fact that my request to find a new doctor due to a lack of trust was addressed with a confirmation letter and an offer of assistance far more swiftly than my urgent need for post-operative pain management speaks volumes. Proceed with extreme caution if you choose to seek care here.

3 attempt to get lab work done, each time the lab claims order is on hold after confirmation from dr office it's all ready for me at the lab. But they remembered to bill me. This place consistently demonstrates incompetence and illustrates how our medical system is failing.

While the medical professionals are good, the customer service experience is awful. It is virtually impossible to speak to anyone unless you leave a message for callback, which can take hourseven if you call first thing in the morning. Otherwise you are stuck on hold with a recording every 30 seconds. One thanking you for waiting, then 30 seconds later another one giving you the option for callback or continuing to hold. So if you want to stay on the line you have to indicate that every minute.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Maine is the process of helping someone learn how to live without the use of substances. Professional staff provide treatment to address the various issues of addiction. Methods often involve medication, counseling, and evidence-based therapies.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Ran out of psych meds because no one bothered to notify me that my primary doctor hadn't sent in the refill. I called and messaged multiple times begging for help. My PCP hasn't bothered reaching out in spite of my escalating panic. Had to go to St Mary's for 3 days worth of meds and went to pick up the script that was finally called in and there's no pharmacist with on call today! I can't stop crying and have resigned myself to the fact that I have to go back to St Mary's today. I haven't felt this degree of desperation in over twenty years

I’ve been coming here for 30 years… since I was 14 years old. My doctor is AMAZING. I will cry when she retires. One of the women that answers the phones is incredible - but I do have to say, getting calls back/urgent matters tended to is ridiculous. I had a message marked as “urgent” at 11:30 today, called back several times and as my dr is out today, nobody had looked at the “urgent” message and it’s now 6 pm. I’m extremely frustrated right now and it’s by far not the first time this has happened. It’s very upsetting because I’ve been coming here so long, and all of my kids, my mom, my extended family all go to this practice. I wish that mattered more when it came to prompt service.

Took a special needs client here for a follow up appointment after having a stroke. She was 6 mins late due to having behaviors prior to the appointment. Dr. Stevenson canceled her appointment even though her mom was sitting in the office waiting for us since 10 mins before the appointment and had already checked her in. I asked to speak to the office manager who informed me that it was up to the doctor's discretion to cancel the appointment. It is very sad that this doctor had no compassion for the individual I support and would reschedule such an important appointment for being 6 mins late even after we explained the reason. I have called patient relations today and reported this incident. I'm waiting to hear back from someone.

I have no idea how some people are allegedly having such bad experiences, I've been going there for 3 years and never had one negative experience.
