If you're looking for a place to learn how to get sober and stay sober check out Casco Bay Recovery!
I had the opportunity to take advantage of their PHP(partial hospitalized patient) program and their IOP(intensive out patient) program.
The PHP program runs 6 days a week 6 hours a day including a long lunch. You get to spend the day with BHTs and clinical group facilitators who educate you on the disease model, model of addiction and the 12 steps of AA. Along with fun activitys, meditation and ice breakers.
The IOP program is great when you have some sobriety time under belt and enables you to focus on your recovery while also tending to family life and work.
It runs 4 days a week, two and half hours a day with an option of morning or night depending on your schedule.
The structure of the program includes meeting with a councler and psychiatric nurse practicioner.
Leslie Briggs will bring you through the admissions process which is simple and convienent.
I had a positive experience with clinical including Matt, Amanda, Bella and Kevin.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Julie was very helpful and caring.
BHT Noah doesn't disappoint when it comes to exciting activitys, being a good listener and making you laugh.
You'll get a chance to meet Program Coordinator Mike. B who is very recovery smart and is the man to talk to when you need realistic, direct and positively impactful input.
In addition to all the things they can and will do for you, they will direct you toward sober living for men and women, meetings, sponsorship, Family Restored Meetings for your non-alcoholic friends and family and more.
Create friendships and connections that will strenthen your recovery community and foundation at Casco Bay Recovery!

Hollis Center, ME | Day One - Residence is a six-mouth inpatient program for young males aged 13 to 20 and provides substance abuse treatment. Day One - Residence is located in Hollis Center, Maine. At Day One, they seek to make a difference in the lives of Maine youth. They do this by addressing substance use and mental health issues through prevention and treatment | Treatments Programs Payment Options | My experience at Providence Retreat was nothing short of life-changing. This is not a typical rehab, and that distinction matters. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this was a place designed for deep spiritual work rather than clinical treatment—and that is exactly what I needed.
Providence Retreat offers something rare: space. Space to slow down, to reflect, and to engage fully with the Twelve Steps in a meaningful and intentional way. There is no overload of information or constant programming. Instead, you are guided methodically through the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, allowing the process to unfold with clarity and depth.
What stood out most to me was the sincerity of the men leading the retreat. They are not professionals detached from the work—they are men who have walked this path themselves and are committed to passing on what was freely given to them. That authenticity creates an environment of trust, humility, and honesty that is difficult to put into words.
Providence Retreat is especially powerful for men who may have struggled in traditional treatment settings or stalled in their step work. It offers a new experience—one rooted in spiritual principles, accountability, and genuine human connection. The retreat does not promise overnight change, nor does it claim to be the end of the journey. It is the beginning. Spiritual progress is the goal, and if persisted in, the results truly are great.
Seeing alumni return to meetings to give back says everything about the impact of this place. Providence Retreat helped lay the solid foundation for my recovery and gave me tools I continue to use today. I am deeply grateful for the experience and would recommend it to any man seeking a sincere, spiritually grounded path forward.

My son mentioned he was cold one night and a staff member put blankets in the dryer so they were warm for him. Way to go seriously deserves recognition. This job is not easy! I also liked how there was a plan set in place for my son and zoom meetings were set up for me to attend when I couldn’t make it down there because I live over 3 hours away. The reception staff and security guards who met me at the front were all welcoming and nice. When I walked through the doors at Crossroads for residential treatment, I was dying—inside and out. Addiction and an eating disorder had taken everything from me. I was exhausted, hopeless, and scared. I didn’t know who I was anymore, and I didn’t believe I could be saved.
But slowly, with the unwavering support of the clinicians, psychiatrist, nurse, dietitian, and every member of the staff, something inside me began to shift. For the first time in a long time, I felt seen. I felt cared for. And I started to believe that healing was actually possible.
Residential treatment gave me what I needed most: safety, stability, and space to breathe. I was taught the foundations of DBT and CBT, and I was given healthy, practical coping skills—tools that I still carry with me every day. My 1:1 sessions with my clinician and dietitian helped me uncover pieces of myself I’d buried for years. I was met with kindness, not judgment. Compassion, not shame. And that changed everything.
When I moved into PHP, I continued learning how to live again. I started facing my trauma head-on and finally began to understand just how deeply it had shaped my relationship with substances, food, and myself. That insight was painful—but it was also freeing.
IOP supported me as I began stepping back into the world. It was scary, but I wasn’t alone. Crossroads gave me a soft place to land while I figured out how to walk through life on new, steadier legs. Even now, I continue to meet with my clinician weekly, still learning, still growing.
The truth is, Crossroads gave me more than treatment—they gave me my life back. In the year since I arrived, I’ve changed in ways I never thought were possible. I’ve discovered who I am beyond my pain. I’ve built a new identity, one that’s no longer defined by alcoholism and anorexia. For the first time in my life, I feel safe in my body and in the world.
I am endlessly grateful. Crossroads didn’t just help me recover—they helped me come home to myself. And I truly mean it when I say: this program saved my life.

My name is Tene Downing. I joined the Crossroads program on November 17, 2025 into PHP. I attended the program for that week and sadly had a relapse that Saturday. I joined PHP group first thing Monday morning and was open and honest about my relapse. The team quickly worked together to set up more supportive services for me. I asked for residential and was quickly forwarded to intake. I did the intake process and was admitted to Back Cove on November 25th. I was nicely greeted by staff and was comforted from my overwhelming feelings. During my stay at Back Cove I was able to attend meaningful groups during the day that taught me the coping skills and tools I needed to work on my sobriety. I also met an amazing group of women that I am able to call lifelong friends. The support and bond I built with all the women at the house is unforgettable. I successfully left the house 28 days later feeling ready to move forward at home with my recovery. I will always be thankful to Crossroads for taking me in when I was at the worst point in my life.
I now participate in IOP daily. I am grateful for my IOP group as it keeps me going every single day. I am to comfortably share and receive help working through the hard times. I am also able to celebrate the happy moments as well with another great group of women. If anyone is struggling with substance abuse I would definitely recommend reaching out to Crossroads to receive the help you need to live a sober and healthy life.
