About Genesis Healthcare System

Genesis Healthcare System in Zanesville, Ohio, provides a variety of services, including primary care, specialized care and behavioral health. The behavioral health center is the only comprehensive facility that provides these services in Southeastern Ohio. In one location, you have access to inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment for children, adolescents and adults. They also offer intensive outpatient group therapy programs for adults. The outpatient center is open Monday through Friday during business hours.

The clinicians in the drug and alcohol recovery program recognize that substance abuse affects more than your physical and emotional health. It also impacts your relationships with friends and family, work and school performance, and finances. The program offers assessments and screenings to identify the signs of chemical dependency and provides recommendations for treatment. This treatment can help you create positive changes in your life and develop skills that support problem solving, to address all areas of your life that have been impacted by substance use.

The intensive outpatient group program addresses family recovery to develop a more supportive home environment. Staff recognize that substance use disorders alter brain chemistry and also address these issues through therapy.

When mental health conditions and substance use disorders are present at the same time, they create a complex condition that requires specialized and integrated care. Their dual diagnosis program treats substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously to improve the potential for success.

Their relapse prevention program helps you develop strategies to identify triggers and establish behaviors that support your recovery. They also utilize medication assisted treatment (MAT) to reduce cravings during recovery that impact your ability to adhere to therapy. This is especially helpful with opioid and alcohol use disorders.

They accept most major health insurance providers in the area. Staff will verify your insurance coverage before beginning treatment.

This is the worst hospital I have EVER been in. The staff is disgusting. They are mean and nasty and the doctors are clueless. I ll name just ONE instance. My father had a stroke last January and they told us they were taking him for an mri and they let him sit in his wheel chair for hours and just ended up taking him back to his room. And then he had another mini stroke right before my eyes and all they did was take his blood pressure and vitals. No sense of urgency, nothing. The nurses were so rude and tried to treat my sister and I like we didn t have a clue and that we were incompetent. The Dr straight lied to our faces many, many times.

Terrible Emergency Room. This hospital needs investigated for negligence. They left my pregnant family member who was miscarrying with severe bleeding and pain in the waiting room for hours before being seen. Once they were back in the room it was over 12 hours before a doctor came to see them. Through those 12hours they were only given Tylenol once through an IV. How are you going to prioritize people there with a viral flu and cold over an actively miscarrying women? Disgusting treatment.

Accepted Insurance

Genesis Healthcare System works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

This hospital is a miserable place to be, the doctor are under trained and don't bother checking on your medical records and history. I would rather die than ever go here again!

if you have any choice at all in the matter, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. My first review was taken down which is pathetic. I want to tell my story. I showed signs of a bowel obstruction for months and went to this ER about four times (if not many more) only to be told I had anxiety and GERD without running ANY tests at all, every time I went I made sure to mention my extensive family history of colon cancer and a genetic mutation that runs in my family that would greatly increase my risk of developing it (lynch syndrome). It took me vomiting feces with my stomach as swollen as a pregnant lady and my heart rate over 200 bpm for them to run any tests. And when they did run tests I was given a rectal exam as I SCREAMED no. Which was incredibly traumatic and violating, especially as a 14 year old. I was eventually then diagnosed with a FULL BOWEL OBSTRUCTION and stage 3c colon cancer. I have a permanent ileostomy which I wouldn't have if it weren't for the medical negligence I experienced at this hospital. I truly pray for those who have no other options but Genesis.

I WAS RECENTLY A PATIENT ON 4 SOUTH AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SERVICE I RECEIVED. EVERY STAFF MEMBER WAS TOP NOTCH AND GEARED TO PROVIDING THE BEST CARE POSSIBLE. HOWEVER, ONE STANDS OUT EVEN MORE. AARON, A NURSE ON 4 SOUTH, WAS EVERYTHING GOOD ABOUT NURSING AND WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE CERTAIN EVERY ONE OF HIS CHARGES WAS WELL CARED FOR AND THEN SOME. HIS STORIES, HIS JOKES, AND ESPECIALLY HIS CARE MADE HIM SECOND-TO-NONE IN TERMS OF THE PATIENT CARE WE ALWAYS EXPECT BUT DON'T OFTEN RECEIVE. I JUST WANTED TO REACH OUT AND TELL HIM THANKS FOR ALL HE DID. HAVE FUN ON YOUR TRIP THIS SUMMER. JOHN P. RODGERS

Horrible service! In August of 2024 I was there for emergency treatment of multiple seizures and treated like slime by nurses and doctors. While suffering seizures I was attacked by security and local PD. Charged with assault on 2 nurses and PO then sent to jail! I had a seizure in my jail cell and sent back to hospital where I was 4-way cuffed (wrists and ankles) to my bed. It has happened multiple times in the past 10 years. Luckily, the judge saw the stupidity in the staff/PD and dismissed all charges. Oh yeah, and still sent a $6000 bill - that's after Medicare paid there portion! Do not go there!!!
