I dont know where to start but first thing i will say is never bring your family here. Old young, strong or mentally ill nobody deserves to be treated like nothing. I was pregnant & attempted S/icde . I was treated worse then an animal i have over 100 allergies and out of all of them i am allergic to chicken they served me chicken multiple times. The food was absolutely disgusting and they were serving me my most deadliest allergy. While i was on suic/de watch. Does that make any sense ??? The staff disrespected me told me im never going home to my children, wished death on me even spoke on my personal life without ever having a conversation with me. The lady said i belonged there and mocked me that she was going home and i wasnt. Cursed and more. My husband was a witness. This proves hipa was breeched .When i documented everything and i made 100s of reports there for almost 2 months and no one cared. Nothing was done about it. I witnessed staff do one on ones with very mentally ill patients and use food as a advantage literally telling a person who can not control their body movements to stop moving and snatching food from them. Yes i WAS in a very vulnerable place in my life and because of them i snapped out of it when i realized the abuse happening not only to other people but to myself. How can they refuse meds if you dont listen or have an disagreement with STAFF not even doctors? How come they lock people in their rooms for 24hrs sometimes? I have all the proof till this day and im sure to keep it because one day this hospital will be on the NEWS.

Our 19-year-old nephew was admitted to the psychiatric unit, and we were overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated him—and us—with compassion and respect. The facility was clean, calm, and well-organized. His care team, including social workers, nurses, and his psychiatrist, communicated clearly and consistently. They saw him as a whole person, not just a diagnosis, and helped him connect with aftercare services. We’re still on the journey, but this hospital gave us hope and the tools to support him moving forward. Highly recommend for families navigating mental health care.

Every day they turn on commercial grade generators making it impossible to rest or work at home. The most rude staff over the phone. What is the reason for these generators?? Why are they on every other day ???
Response from the owner1 day ago
We value and appreciate our surrounding neighbors and apologize for any frustration or inconvenience caused by our mandatory generator testing.

As per NYC Building code which is enforced by the DOB (Department of Buildings) and the FDNY (Fire Department of New York); we are required to run our generator on a weekly basis for 15-30 minutes and on a monthly basis for no less than 30 minutes. Following these standards allows the hospital to remain compliant with nationwide standards such as NFPA 110 which is monitored by The Joint Commission (Regulatory Agency for healthcare). We thank you for your understanding and support of our compliance with this crucial safety requirement.

Accepted Insurance

Gracie Square Hospital – Inpatient works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step icon12-Step

Participants in 12 step programs maintain access to community-based peer support, which is the programs' primary treatment modality. 12 step recovery combines personal growth with paper coaching. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, open to the public, and available multiple times per day in most communities. They are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who guide them through the steps of recovery. Age and gender specific and other specialized formats are common.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

The ultimate goal of a sober living home in New York is to provide structure and support for those who want to maintain sobriety. Often, sober living homes are a transitional space for those moving from residential treatment to mainstream life. Residents typically stay at least 90 days, with most living in the halfway house for more than six months.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in New York occurs when family members and friends lovingly confront someone with a substance use disorder. The goal of this confrontation is to motivate the person to seek treatment. Loved ones point out how the person's destructive behavior is affecting them in hopes that they will agree to get help. Most inpatient rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families walk through this process step by step.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

For many different stages and therapies offered during addiction treatment, it's essential to offer 24-hour clinical care in New York. often involves medication treatment for drug or alcohol detox. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be dangerous, but having medical experts on-site around the clock means someone is always there to step in and provide emergency medical care when and if it is ever needed.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
seniors-program thumbnail image

Seniors Program

Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New York is a short term therapeutic method used to treat substance use and mental health disorders. CBT typically lasts from five to 20 sessions, based on the individual's needs.

During dialectical behavior therapy in New York, you and your therapist will look for triggers and patterns that are guiding your emotions. This involves keeping a diary of your emotions and situations and sharing this each week with the therapist. This information will determine what you work on in each session.

Men and women receive emotional support from their peers during group therapy sessions. These are typically people who face the same struggles that you do. This exposure fosters a sense of camaraderie and community while reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness that often accompany addiction.

Men and women in New York undergoing one on one individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction treatment will address the unique psychological and emotional aspects that are often associated with addiction triggers. Your therapist helps you build a relapse prevention plan and set achievable goals to improve your mental health and achieve long term sobriety.

Introduced in 1983, motivational interviewing is a method to help clients commit to change. It's based on the philosophy that change is hard, and clients must explore their own options and come to their own conclusions rather than receive warnings or advice from the therapist.

Trauma therapy involves working through the psychological and emotional impact of a traumatic event. You learn to identify the triggers and develop coping mechanisms that build a sense of safety and trust in yourself.

You can participate in couples therapy to focus on a specific problem in your relationship or for general strengthening of the relationship. This therapy aims to help you improve communication, address conflict, and grow in affection for one another.

Family therapy helps individual members of the family unit navigate the complexities of addiction. Therapists provide you with the tools you need to improve communication skills and conflict resolution. When families work together, they can support their loved one's recovery and help to restore balance and harmony within the household.

As you recover from addiction, eating the right foods will help you heal and build your health for long term sobriety. Nutrition therapy teaches you about the nutrition your body needs and how to eat the right foods to support your recovery.

Nicotine is an addictive substance found in cigarettes. When you stop smoking, your body experiences withdrawal from this substance. Nicotine replacement therapy lets you slowly reduce your nicotine intake so you experience minimal withdrawal symptoms. Eventually you'll be down to zero.

The unbearable noise from this hospital is becoming a severe issue for our community. The generators are not just loud; they create an intolerable racket that disrupts our peace and keeps us awake at night. It’s shocking that they can operate these machines without any regard for the local residents. Just yesterday , I endured over an hour of this relentless noise, and when I tried to express my concerns, I was met with nothing but voicemail. There’s no city emergency justifying the need for these generators to be running at all hours, and it’s time for local authorities to investigate this matter. This situation has gone on for far too long, turning our neighborhood into a chaotic environment rather than a peaceful place to live. The hospital’s blatant disregard for our well-being is unacceptable, and I will be notifying 311 about this ongoing disruption. If things don’t change soon, with the reviews this place has , they should be shut down

A Disturbing Situation. This hospital has become a significant source of frustration for our community. The incessant noise from their generators is not just loud; it’s intolerable and keeps us awake at night. It’s astonishing that they operate this way without any thought for the residents living nearby. Just last night, I was subjected to more than an hour of the deafening sound, and when I attempted to reach out to voice my concerns, I was met with nothing but voicemail. This situation has persisted for far too long, making it increasingly difficult to live in this neighborhood. It feels more like a construction zone. The lack of consideration from the hospital is unacceptable, and I firmly believe they must be held accountable for their actions. I’m seriously contemplating relocating because of this ongoing disruption!

Enough is Enough! This hospital is a nightmare for our community. The generators are not just loud; they’re a constant source of frustration that keeps us all awake at night. The noise is unbearable, and it’s shocking that they continue to operate this way without any regard for the residents. I spent hours trying to drown out the sound, but nothing worked. We deserve better than this—from a hospital, no less! I will be pursuing every available option to make sure our voices are heard. This is making me consider to move !!!

Absolutely Unacceptable!I can't believe the noise coming from this hospital. For hours on end, they blast their generators, shaking my entire apartment! It's like living next to a construction site - it’s actually worse ! I tried to enjoy a quiet evening, but I could barely hear myself think, let alone watch my favorite show. This is not only disruptive but also shows a blatant disregard for the community. It's time for the hospital to be held accountable for their actions! They turn them every other day from 40 minutes to an hour

My mother and I had passed this hospital going to dinner and later that night she started getting really upset and anxious and said she wanted to die and needed a doctor. I told her we could walk down the block to the place we saw because the restaurant was closed and I called 911 and said we were outside of this hospital and to send emergency dispatch immediately and then I buzzed but the security guard just ignored me so I tried to calm her down and we waited for an ambulance bc no one inside this hospital would help or even allow us to wait where she could be safe for the EMT. I called 911 again and at least 4 times and then they hung up and the security guard and some administrative personnel came to the door and basically told us to leave and I was just stocked but strangers that were walking by were trying to help and even they were asking to speak with the hospital staff because a few of them had come down and the facility was open and all the lights on and a huge lobby with seating while we were waiting just outside but not one of them even came to assist and just stood there watching. My mom was walking into the street and she just recently became mobile after her legs were almost amputated and it was late and dark and she’s on anti-psychotic medication that causes her to act impulsively and the side effects are sudden dizziness, falling and suicidal behavior so I don’t know what else to say. It was a nightmare and 911 stopped answering my calls until other people called and a kind stranger waited with us because it has been over an hour and then the police came and they couldn’t even get her to sit down and i explained what was happening and they finally got the ambulance and she was admitted into the ER at NY Presbyterian where she literally told the doctor she was dying. What is happening to this city? I work in healthcare and I couldn’t believe how terrible this system has become until I saw it with my own eyes. #graciesquarehospital #marymanningwalsh #archcare Check out this Yelp review for Gracie Square Hospital
