A very good hospital — large, with various departments, clean, and the medical staff is excellent.

I previously left a review about my experience with Dr. Maria Cristofaro. Since then, I went through the hospital’s formal complaint process and it only confirmed how broken the system is. Despite having a witness present and raising serious concerns about the false statements she made about me, the “investigation” sided with her without truly considering my account. It’s discouraging to see that when a patient speaks up, it becomes their word against a doctor’s, and the hospital automatically protects its own. If I had really been “aggressive” or “threatening” as she claimed, security or law enforcement would have been called but they weren’t, because it didn’t happen. This entire process has left me with no trust in how patient complaints are handled here. To anyone reading: speak up for yourself, but also protect yourself by documenting and bringing support to your visits. Sadly, the system will not hold providers accountable on its own. You can see the evil and hatred through her eyes. God sees everything.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I was referred here by my primary doctor for a sleep study and completed the at home sleep study last November. I received the watchPAT in the mail and it went fine, and a basic report was printed to confirm mild to moderate sleep apnea. However, my bill was for emergency room fees, and an EEG. There was no EEG completed and this study was not done in person. I disputed the charge for clarification and followed up over a dozen times over several months, and was wholly ignored. I never received any response or explanation, and even after escalating with a patient advocate, leadership did nothing to help me understand my bill. After being told the account was on hold for review, I still received threatening notices, and the account was sent to a debt collector. After being ignored for this long and intimidated, I paid the full amount although I knew it was an incorrect bill. I would not recommend Hospital of Central Connecticut because they do not accurately bill for their services, ignore their patients, and do not respect their rights. I will be telling as many people as possible about this experience.

*Update* I decided to drop my review from 2 to 1 star. Now that we have the report back it is 100% clear our doctor didn't listen to us at all. There are SO MANY THINGS wrong or missing from this report and the hospital has no interest in correcting the matter. Avoid this hospital at all costs. *Original* People here have a bad attitude and do not listen. They're extremely cynical and extremely unprofessional when it comes to patient care. A nurse made inappropriate comments regarding an elderly lady in crisis while we were there. A security refused to let me back in to see my wife even though I was just with her a few minutes prior. But the worst part is the doctor who refused to listen and dismissed what happened to my wife as a mere fainting spell. Last I checked, frothing at the mouth, eyes rolling in the back of your head, trembling, and being completely unresponsive are more associated with seizures than fainting. Despite me describing all this in full detail to the doctor, she proceeded to ignore me and asking my wife (who was obviously unconscious and unresponsive at the time) what happened. Even the EMTs who rushed her to the hospital told her how they would probably want to do a few scans. But no, nothing at all. They gave her a sandwich, something to drink, and then sent us on our merry way. Part of me wishes I was somehow able to drive to another hospital, any other hospital instead of this one. They actually make you sign this waiver about demonstrating mutal respect, no discrimination, etc. But frankly, we feel discriminated against and ignored.

Dr Scott Brown is a horrible and incompetent doctor who somehow knows less than a college med level student. Beware of who you hire. I had to explain to him how dopamine receptors work, a damn doctor, as a med student. Inexcusable. My mother went in feeling eh, and came out feeling even worse after whatever he gave her. Overall hospital is fine, but steer clear of this person. They should be fired and sent back to med school. Everybody's experiences are different yes, but in this experience, Dr Brown did nothing but harm. 0 stars if I could.

I want to thank ER Assistant Dana for going above and beyond during my visit. I was in so much pain, and without me even having to ask, she noticed exactly what I needed and stepped in to help. That kind of attentiveness and compassion in such a vulnerable moment truly meant a lot to me. Her initiative and care made a difficult experience a little easier, and I’m deeply grateful.
