About Pomerado Hospital

Pomerado Hospital, also known as Palomar Health Pomerado Poway is now closed but was located in Poway, California. It was a behavioral health unit that specialized in crisis intervention. They had 12 beds in their treatment center that offered psychiatric intensive care and crisis stabilization for those in need. Accredited by the Joint Commission, this was also a training treatment center for student nurses and psychology interns.

The facility was located near the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, the Potato Chip Rock Trailhead at Mount Woodson and Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. It should be noted that patients that were here at the time of closure were moved to the Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. Officials say the plan is for Palomar Health to build a new 120-bed mental hospital in the San Dego area.

Behavioral Health Services in Poway

Here they had a multidisciplinary assessment and treatment system, and you would have been admitted either voluntarily or involuntarily. They provided medication management, and you could have received individual or group therapy. You could have also gotten individual and group psychotherapy along with recreation therapy, music and art therapy or pet therapy.

They encouraged family support through behavioral health education. They believed in a whole person wellness system and would provide referrals elsewhere if needed. They used a comprehensive discharge and aftercare planning system.

They accepted walk-ins, and their services were provided by funding from the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. They accepted payments through Medicare and Medicaid.

I was there for gallbladder surgery. Surgery went well, but after I had some complications. They did keep me overnight because I was in severe abdominal pain. The next day, I thought they would keep me one more night for pain management and observation; and................NO!! I am a medi cal patient, and because of this, they sent me home even though I wasn't ready. I told them this, and the answer was.... well, that's the way it is. If you have medi cal or medi care, they WILL NOT KEEP YOU no matter what you have. Very apathetic hospital and Dr's. I will never go back. I was never treated like that @ UCSD. & DON'T SEND ME YOUR INSINCERE AUTO REPLY

Dr. Geoffrey Delaurier sent me home with a diagnosis of covid and bronchitis. I am a a 30 year old chronically ill, complex patient with many autoimmune disorders and disabilites who has had severe lung congestion since at least August of last year. Pneumonia, repeat infections. I cannot clear my lungs. It hurts to breathe. I feel like I cannot breathe. I am weak and I an scared. I know my body, and this is very wrong. I have lost 20 pounds, 10 in the past 3 weeks alone. I am not getting any better despite 3 rounds if antibiotics and a nebulizer and an inhaler and mucinex and to top it off, I have a rare motility disorder which makes it nearly impossible for me to swallow and is causing me to choke in my sleep and also means I am choking on phlegm. I wake up gasping for air and am in excruciating pain. He told me that because I wasn t dehydrated I must be doing fine. And when I told him how hard it was to drink top ramen broth today and try to get water down and how much of it I threw back up he did not care and said yeah so you re fine you can swallow. Ha.Anyway, I followed up with my primary care today. I can t go into the office because I have covid, so he can t see me, meaning, he really can t treat me. What does he say when I tell him my symptoms? That he s extremely worried and he thinks I should go to the emergency room, because I probably need to be hospitalized.I tell him, I was there last night, and despite what I told them and my medical history, they sent me home. He couldn t believe it, and said that he might want me to go back if the prednisone he prescribed me doesn t help because he can t treat me over the phone. He knows how sick I am in my every day life, something this doctor was intentionally negligent in acknowledging.Hey Doctor, you ll remember me because I told you that you are rude and insensitive and you don t seem to take complex patients seriously at all, and you ll remember that because you stormed off and rolled your eyes at me and on your way out I told you that s a good way to react to confrontation as a grown man.If I die, I will be blaming you.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Ever since Palomar took over Pomerado, this place took a dive. 11 hours in the ER, was told being admitted, looking for a bed. Then Nurse said, no, getting discharged. I said that's not what the doctor said. Back and forth and finally she said I was being admitted. I wa on a recliner for 11 hours! I said my back is killing me, can i just wait outside? They put me in an ER bed then comes a bed to the 3rd floor at midnight. At 8 the next morning to the 2nd floor. Infectious disease doctor says I have to be in the hospital 14 days, then comes a different doctor and he says 7 days in and 7 days with home health. Then he comes again and says only 7 days, 3 days in and 4 days home health. What a disaster. For 40 years i came to this hospital and it was the best and even then I hated Palomar. What a shame that crappy business hospital takeover the best.

Their Billing dept failed to bill my insurance company for the Hospital's portion of an ER visit 3 years ago due to "computer error" and tried to bully us into paying them directly or face Collections. They won't bill my insurance because they know they have waited too long to bill. Worst yet, their billing department supervisor (Dorothy) refuses to take our call after multiple calls and letters. We are reporting them to the state (hcai.ca.gov). Never heard back from their hospital's "Service of Excellence" department. Lucky for us, we work in the Medical field so we refuse to be threatened by this hospital for their billing department's screw up.

The only reason it’s not zero stars are the sweet customer service agents who listen to me calling seven times within one day to try and get a prescription refilled. PHMG systems must be a complete mess if they don’t even know if they’ve successfully submitted a prescription request, even when you confirm multiple times. The night triage nurses don’t even return your call. I hate to imagine what it would be like to depend on them in a serious medical situation. After seven years of being jerked around by shoddy service and continually hoping it will get better, I am so done. And yes, I wrote into their customer service and called them about this, but it didn’t seem to matter. Stay away from this medical group.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Nichole - we see that your review is for PHMG rather than for Palomar Health, but we'd love to try to assist you regardless! I had been throwing up for 24 hours straight. I got the worst case of vertigo I've ever had, I became so severely dehydrated I was trembling and pale white. I had to be wheelchaired in because I was so weak and frail. This was my first time at Palomar medical and it was an amazing visit: from the check-in with Marnee, to my amazing doctor Carter, I was amazed at the level of care and dedication I received. I'm so thankful they were able to help me and I walked out of the hospital much better than when I arrived

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We're so glad to hear that, Catelynn, and we'll pass your comments along to the team! We're always here if you should need us again, and we're hope you're feeling much better now!

I would not trust them with my life again. I was seen by an apathetic doctor. I felt like I was brushed off as intoxicated instead of being severely dehydrated. I asked for water and was refused this, no further accommodation/care offered. They left me alone in the waiting room for several hours, I was gasping for air, in and out of consciousness. Didnt get fluids until 6+ hours.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
