About Pomerado Hospital

Pomerado Hospital, also known as Palomar Health Pomerado Poway is now closed but was located in Poway, California. It was a behavioral health unit that specialized in crisis intervention. They had 12 beds in their treatment center that offered psychiatric intensive care and crisis stabilization for those in need. Accredited by the Joint Commission, this was also a training treatment center for student nurses and psychology interns.

The facility was located near the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, the Potato Chip Rock Trailhead at Mount Woodson and Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. It should be noted that patients that were here at the time of closure were moved to the Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. Officials say the plan is for Palomar Health to build a new 120-bed mental hospital in the San Dego area.

My mom was admitted to this hospital this past week, and while the staff were all really nice, it was a full-time job (for me) to make sure my mom's needs were met. Communication is really lacking- no one seemed to know anything about anything. She only got the meal she ordered twice in 4 days. Most of the time it was random food that she didn't want. The statistics on the wall of the medical telemetry ward indicate that there's a problem at this hospital with communication and general patient satisfaction. Their highest monthly satisfaction score was 66 out if 100, the other scores are much worse. The rooms are small, claustrophobic, and depressing. By the 4th day, we were begging for them to let my mom go home, and they were only able to "make it work" when we threatened to leave against medical advice. Oh, and if you have celiac, don't come here, they can't feed you.

I would give zero stars if I could. Went at 1am and left 45 excruciating minutes later. I was in so much pain and told them 'i need help'. They just non chalently said kept saying we're looking for a bed. I asked if they had an ambulance that would take me to an ER that would help me. I had to take myself. I will never waste time there again, so horrible.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Worst hospital ever with so much malpractice that goes on there especially in the emergency room. After being neglected, ignored, and harrassed in the emergency room by the vile nurses who fail to do their jobs as expected, I've stopped going to hospitals and stopped seeing doctors altogether. Palomar Medical Center Poway is the reason why people refuse medicine and refuse to go to hospitals and no one can blame them. No wonder why Palomar Medical Center Poway has the worst reputation of any hospital out there and can't EVEN reach a 3.0 average rating on google!!
