About Saint Annes Hospital – Behavioral Health

Saint Anne’s Hospital is part of the Brown University Health organization. The hospital offers inpatient and outpatient mental health services and is located in Fall River, Massachusetts. For clients who need intensive substance use disorder (SUD) and addiction treatment, they can refer you to one of their other treatment centers.

The hospital accepts insurance from most major health plans. They also accept Medicare and Medicaid (MassHealth). Saint Anne’s Hospital is easy to access from I-195 and Massachusetts Route 81.

Specialized Treatment for Children and Adults

The behavioral health and psychiatry program helps children and adults through its inpatient programs. The program offers special outpatient programs for children and teens at the Fernandes Center for Children and Families, also located in Fall River.

The specialty treatment programs at the Fernandes Center range from early childhood programs (ages 2-5) to elementary programs (6-13) to adolescent programs (14-19). These are therapy clinics that provide treatment for problematic behaviors typically emerging in these developmental stages.

Integrated Health Treatment Experience

Because this is a full service hospital, clients receive integrated treatment services. In addition to psychiatric services, the hospital has emergency, surgical, and diagnostic services, as well as other specialty services.

The hospital has received multiple accreditations and awards for various specialty services. These include Leapfrog’s “Straight A” Hospital Safety Award. Only 12 US hospitals have received the award since it began in 2012.

Safe Therapeutic Environment

The facility offers a secure and safe environment. Clients are in semi private or private rooms. There are dining facilities on site where clients receive nutritious meals.

Comfortable day rooms provide relaxing group therapy spaces. There are outdoor courtyards where clients can get some fresh air and spend time in a healing environment. Feedback from clients highlights attentive care and a supportive and compassionate staff.

AMAZING!!! I literally sat in the ER in my hometown hospital for 4 hours and finally left. Then I drove to St Annes and all within less than an hour was seen and discharged. The nurses are so friendly and sweet and Dr Wilson, the er doctor, is super thorough. He also made sure that we were more than ok before discharging us. I don't understand how one ER can have so many doctors and nurses running around but not seeing patients and here at St Anne's they literally are super busy but 3 different nurses stopped in and asked if we were ok....

Accepted Insurance

Saint Annes Hospital – Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Due to various health issues that substance abuse causes, 24-hour clinical care in Massachusetts is often a necessary part of treatment. Individuals may be suffering from infections, illness, or organ damage. Having 24-hour care available ensures that these physical problems are treated along with the psychological effects of addiction. Once individuals complete detox and are medically stable, this intensive level of supervision ends, and the next phase of treatment can begin.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

A person who has alcohol use disorder (alcoholism) builds up a physical tolerance to alcohol. If they try to stop drinking, they experience withdrawal symptoms. Treatment is available for this condition, through alcohol rehab in Massachusetts. Treatment options include AA, detox, counseling, medication, residential programs, and outpatient treatment. Social and family support systems are crucial during and after treatment of any kind.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

In Massachusetts, substance abuse treatment programs can help to address addiction and, if relevant, any co-occurring mental health conditions. Programs include outpatient, inpatient, dual-diagnosis, and partial hospitalization. You'll receive therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, and sometimes complementary therapies like acupuncture and mindfulness-based therapy. By attending skills training and recovery groups you'll build a strong foundation for your recovery and strengthen your support network, increasing your chances of long-term recovery success.

Programs

seniors-program thumbnail image

Seniors Program

Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Worst patient experience in an ER ever. Zero communication… except when the overworked and overwhelmed staff complained loudly and repeatedly about patients, families, and/or having to work there. I won’t even talk about the care, except to say that we finally had enough and just left, without so much as a question or concern when we let them know… except to ask us where we put the IV that we took out ourselves. Would not recommend.

i was there for over 5 hours and none of the doctors knew how to do anything but flirt with security guards. they didnt even write down what i actually needed, when i had bloodwork done, i needed it to be tested for other things and they didnt even do that so now my results dont exist. they dont know how to do any testing apparently because it took them hours to tell if the pregnancy test was negative when it takes less than 5 minutes usually to do so. honestly this er sucked, nobody did their job.

This place is absolutely horrible don’t take your kids here I’ve taken my mixed daughter who looks white she was treated perfect I have took my epileptic mixed son and got told by a dr that they don’t know y I took him there while he was actively having a seizure and I should have taken a child who was throwing up before and after each seizure to a different hospital. I chalked that up to the dr just having a rough night but today I took my youngest son who’s had the pediatric dr say he has flu b and then told me to take him to the er because he’s prone to pneumonia and he wouldn’t hold anything down and I couldn’t break his fever of 102.7 he has a strider so badly we sat there for 4 hours for the dr to say the fever of 103.5 when we arrived wasn’t bad and then force zofran down his throat he threw up immediately after then forced some more down his throat he puked back up and then force Tylenol down he also threw up everywhere for him to say oh he is fine he took a less than an ounce of juice all day and peed 1 time we can just watch him since he isn’t actually throwing up because what’s coming out of him is clear liquid (even the poor nurse tried to say something and was like no he puked everything we gave him up) the kids not had anything to eat or drink all day but then had the audacity to say he’s not been throwing up all day sir says who because wtf have I been cleaning off myself my child my couch and my floors all day and I’d love to know what u call the projectile fluids coming out his mouth since 6am. But when my daughter was here two days ago with the same symptoms because she has the same flu she was in a room with ice packs they gave all the meds to stop the symptoms and kept us their until she could hold something down

They denied me a bed and treated me in the hallway where there was no privacy regarding my information. They denied me a bed, I saw many empty beds. A stench of urine. A person urinated on the floor and bed and no one bothered to clean it. The nurses sat joking among themselves and said they were busy.

Went to the ER for chest pain and fatigue. Was admitted for a few days. The best care I ever got or witnessed. So quick to respond. Friendly.

This place is an absolute joke. I just spent 2 hrs waiting for a simple x-ray, only for them to call me in and say the x-ray technician had to head to the ICU for an emergency so I have to wait and go back tomorrow. How does a hospital in a city of 100,000 have only one x-ray technician staffed during peak hrs???? Unbelievable.
