I was a client quit a few years ago and I had had a few issues with them but I was still willing to come back and give them a second chance because I am moving back to the area and am unfortunately in need of their services but when I called yesterday, or the day before to find out if I could go straight to them with my insurance or if I needed referrals.YOU WOULD THINK, that this would be a simple thing right?NOT!!! Despite having to be able to verify whether or not coverage is provided a under the transparency of costs coverage acts. Absolutely could not and would not answer these questions. Upon contacting administration Literally the EXACT SAME ISSUE AGAIN And these are supposed to be people who care and want to help ?!?AND I HAVE YET TO hear back from the administration team like I asked so I could address this issue I was , in all honesty, made to feel like I could have been found dead in a ditch and they wouldn t even bat an eye!!!Here I am, a legitimate patient TRULY SEEKING HELP, and right of the bat I was treated like a lowlife POS I am a middle aged man who is highly involved in street outreach work and currently pursuing a calling in outreach ministry seeking assistance and was treated like nothing more than an ignorant piece of street trash

I had anxiety and autism and other ailments . I had to come here twice with the lyft. The lady at the other building was a lot nicer The lady at this building is very rigid and unkind and even apologize for me holding boundaries . She wouldn't listen to anything I said very stubborn attitude. It's important to have compassionate people in these clinics. There are people getting transferred from different places who have anxiety and need to be accommodated in a nicer manner. This lady was very hard and didn't have much emotion or empathy not healthy at all to have as a worker at a mental health clinic. I'm reluctant to even come to this place due to the way I was treated. Please do better and have more present compassionate people this unacceptable.

Accepted Insurance

Southwest Behavioral Health Services – Flagstaff Outpatient works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive inpatient programs (IOP) offer high-level support for clients in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient rehabs, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Intensive outpatient treatment typically includes rigorous individual, group, and family counseling. Evidence-based complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage, are widely available. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) may be provided. Clients in IOP receive a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week but may engage in up to 20 treatment hours weekly.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of motivational interviewing in Arizona is to enhance your confidence in your ability to make changes in your life. It encourages you to commit to change and plan for the process of making those changes that will allow you to reach your goals.

I've bin with southwest for about 10 years, specifically this location in their MAT program, the change this place has made this last year is major! The new DR. Sean is a major change from the previous DR that was there. Sean understands not everything is black and white and actually listens to you when you tell him like hey this isn't working can we try something else's, on top of actually listening to your concerns about medication he actually cares about your recovery as much as you do, I have not had one DR. Actually try to help when I said I want to be done with MAT meds, the last DR'S would basically set you up for failure so you will have to come back and be stuck. Sean will actually help you and not abandon you through the process of getting off MAT meds.He has helped this place become more hopeful for me. You can tell he cares.... and thats the part that this clinic was missing. Southwest please hold on to this DR close. He is litterly what makes the MAT program a true recovery program.

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was incredibly frustrating. I went in person to pick up paperwork and then again to drop it off, toddler in tow—which is no small task. I was genuinely excited to get an appointment within 30 days… until they called me a day or two later to say the doctor isn’t accepting new patients. Seriously? Why was I scheduled in the first place if the doctor wasn’t taking new patients? That kind of basic information should absolutely be known by the front desk before wasting patients’ time and effort. I only needed 2–3 appointments for testing—not to establish long-term care—so it felt like a simple request that turned into unnecessary stress. I will say the front desk staff were very kind, which is the only reason they're getting a one star review. But the process behind the scenes clearly needs better communication and coordination.

Rhonda, Rachel, front desk ladies and pretty much everyone else is so awesome here… I really feel like a normal person because of them and that’s because they understand when you aren’t medicated right, or don’t have anyone to talk to… you can have a personality change. More specifically on Rachel though… I’ve been with southwest since I was 18 years old. But no psychiatrist has been as exceptional as her. I’ve managed to get my life together because she was willing to hear me out from this… dark and confusing place I was speaking out from (my body) and she hit the nail on the head with my meds… my life has been forever changed for the BETTER!

After finally getting in and jumping through a few obstacles, I need to completely change my review. Situations happen, and I cannot expect everyone to know everything all the time. That being said, this place has definitely improved in the eight years since the last time I was in the program. After meeting with the provider and the staff, while keeping in mind that I am a very unique situation, they have all worked extremely hard and been very diligent in helping me get back on their program and established with several things that I desperately need🙏🏼 After meeting with everyone face-to-face and working on what we’re working on, these guys definitely deserve the five stars. I changed my review to you. And for that, I am grateful. 🙏🏼 They are working with me on accomplishing several different things that I desperately need on several different areas.

This clinic is by far the worst Matt clinic in the US. I've been on clinic all over US. They could care less about your state of mind, or your recovery. They go out of their way to stress you out. I can honestly say I suffer severe PTSD from the treatment I received at Southwest Behavioral. Nothing is random at Southwest. The dosing nurse has no mental health or drug rehab training. She enjoys making your life miserable. And then she only records in the records what she chooses. 😕 No explanations, just accusations. 2 years without a problem . Then all the sudden records were changed. Management had no idea. And even retrained her, because of my grievance. My counselor knew what was happening but he wouldn't say a word. He went along with whatever she did. He should have spoken up. The provider just mimicking whatever she said. I complained and found out he had been on suspension. The state licensing agency said they are very very familiar with Southwest and had many complaints against Southwest Behavioral Services. CMS, Prescott Valley literally saved my life. They are what every Matt clinic should be. I was so stressed by Southwest Behavioral Services. I can now breathe and be treated with respect. I must travel 4 hours a day but there is simply no comparison, CMS is hands down the better clinic. The counselors there are wonderful. You want to do good. You do good because you feel good. Southwest has done in many many people seeking help. They turn away 4 or 5 people a day. They have no right treating anyone. I'm writing to Flagstaff officials and hope more people go to chamber of Commerce.
