About Sundance Hospital

Inpatient at this center is used to bring in clients who need to be stabilized. Clients reside at the establishment until fully stabilized and in an improved sense of functioning. Treatment plans are provided to the client after stabilization. This is a crisis center where the length of stay is eight to twelve days.

The outpatient program relies on a group therapy model. Clients attend sessions to share their experiences in a supportive environment. Individuals work toward their goals on their personalized treatment plan while building skills in group counseling sessions. The outpatient program lasts four to six weeks.

Sundance Behavioral does not list who they are in-network with, but most major insurance providers will typically cover mental health services. Major insurance providers who can help with this include Humana, Beacon, Anthem, ComPsych, Magellan Health, and Kaiser Permanente. Some other ones include Aetna, Amerigroup, United Healthcare, Ambetter, BlueCross/BlueShield, and Cigna. Those with out-of-network benefits should contact their provider to verify coverage.

i am currently 12 years old.when i was 9 years old i was admitted to this hospital because cooks childrens didnt have space for me. i was struggling with SI and major depression, anxiety, trauma ect. i do not want to go into detail of anything but PLEASE i am begging you do not send your kids here. I know that it might seem like I’m just saying this because I was admitted there and I had no choice but this was by far the worst place you could sing your kids. I do not wanna go into detail, but one of the things that happened to me whenever I was there was we each had 10 minutes to shower and I was taking my shower and because I was on suicide watch I had to have somebody sitting in the bathroom with me while I showered I requested a female and nobody would listen to me at all, and a male had to watch me shower and it was extremely uncomfortable. every single second one kid would be getting beat up and it was so sad because I was in there with so many younger kids too and just seeing them have to go through that was so heartbreaking for me. I walked into this place with a lot of hurt and a lot of trauma and I truly think that going here and then whenever I left, I probably left with 50% more trauma than I had coming in. I remember whenever I got discharged out of perimeter there was a cop who was walking inside because somebody on the boys unit got into a fight and he broke his nose arm, and he crushed one of his ribs. This police officer told me and my mom “never send your child here we’re trying to get it shut down”. please look at other options. obviously if you are looking at the reveiws your probably looking to send someone here. im praying for you, your family, and,or your child.

My teenage daughter went here for 15 days after a suicide attempt. It was a traumatic experience for her. The kids are kept in a sterile room with nothing but a TV on all day long with no relief. She went outside ONCE for 30 minutes and came home filthy and with a vitamin D deficiency. She shared a room with a girl that wet the bed and the floor and said that there would be urine left there all day. Her one-on-one "therapy" was getting pulled out into the hall by a psychiatrist and talked to for 2 minutes once a day. They tell you that a doctor will call twice a week but we talked with the doctor ONCE and that was only after a whole week of us calling repeatedly for information. We got a call from an assistant another time that told me opposite notes about my daughter than what the doctor said. They told us she could call every night for 10 minutes but they'd cut her off after 3-5. And they let her put another kid on the phone?! They kept her like a prisoner and wouldn't release her, saying if we pulled her our insurance wouldn't cover the costs. My daughter has literally been in therapy for PTSD from Perimeter, not her suicide attempt, for the last 6 months. She still has breakdowns and relives horrible memories of kids screaming, being pinned down, and given "booty juice" (a sedative injection in the butt!). Six months later I'm still getting bills from "professionals" even though I paid over 6k to Perimeter out of pocket. This place is a hell hole and should be shut down!

Accepted Insurance

Sundance Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

My 26 year old daughter was admitted 3 days by JPS to this place. I never received a call from a therapist or anyone until 2 days after , Which was intake that needed more questions about my daughter When I asked daughter if they get activities like it’s stated in the care plan she said no There was no family therapy, I called the other day so I can get some background on the treatment plan they said that they were going to leave a note so patient advocate or therapist could call me. No call yet. My daughter also said that most of the time they were watching TV The patient techs Brandon and Don yell at the adult women in this hospital These 2 guys also was heard by me while I was on the phone call with her yelling at others in the background and even at my daughter. The guys grabbed her things out of one room without permission and tried to put her in an unsanitary , stinky and hot room . My daughter also said the food up there is nasty and is slop. So that’s why our kids barely eat, bread hard and food watery, after all they are getting paid good money for them to be here per the insurance and private pay. Our children are not getting treated right up here at all. I would not recommend anyone here But I will however say the front desk Adrienne , Nicolette, Sheila, Ashley, Dora and there were two other ladies during the visit with my daughter and the numerous phone calls that need a raise for even staying at this place. But they have and were helping my daughter tremendously. I want to thank them these women are the true leaders on how care should be given to our mental health adult children

Worst experience of my life. I went in to fix my mental health and left worse. They force you medicine. We were trapped inside 24 hours a day never say outside the whole 9 days I was there. The only thing that actually gets the days by is groups other than that you sit in front of the tv. One of the worst places around

There was no ac on the Perserverance Unit. Some staff just walk around talking about patients. Plumbing does not work properly. Staff member Kerri and Rena were both awesome

After finally deciding to go to mental health hospital because I was always unsure if they would harm my child and because I do hear crazy stories as a licensed professional counselor of the mistreatment of clients. My son’s nose was broken during his stay all because he is difficult to deal with and noncompliant the children and staff assaulted my child multiple times and failed to protect him so he would not get injured. They also did not let me know until three weeks later, by letter he had a broken nose until three weeks after the injury which delay me from getting him seen by a medical professional that could make sure it was properly healing I asked this facility multiple times after they told me he had to have a emergency x-ray wet the status of the x-ray was no one ever told me. I would not recommend anyone sending their dog to this location or facility. They are not treating the mentally ill and emotionally unstable with the respect and understanding they deserve.

Do not bring your children here. They will lie about how long they intend to keep them and then call CPS on you if you decide to get your child treatment at a different facility instead. Please skip this place and take your loved one somewhere else.

The working staff that actually dealt with the youth, were rude, cold, and acted like they hated their job. Welcoming staff were cold too. It was not a great feeling leaving my child there and listening to horror stories. We need to do better.
