About Applewood Centers Inc

Applewood Centers Inc is an organization with addiction and behavioral health treatment programs for youth in Cleveland, Ohio. This particular location is the Jones Campus, and they have a few other locations in the area, too.

This behavioral health center serves kids and adolescents up to age 21 who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction or mental health conditions. They have separate residential programs for boys and girls, and they have outpatient treatment, too. The residential programs are for teens ages 11 to 18, but the outpatient treatment can be for kids from birth to age 21.

For either residential or outpatient treatment they use a variety of techniques and treatment formats. They provide individual therapy and group therapy. Family is an important part of the recovery journey, too, especially for kids and teens, so family therapy is a key component as well.

During your child’s program they’ll get addiction counseling, and, if necessary, they’ll receive psychiatric care including treatment and medications. Staff will also address issues that are impacting your child’s substance use and behavior like grief, bullying and trauma. Along with helping your child get sober they’ll also focus on character development and growth. Plus the organization has other programs and services like a foster care and adoption program as well as a school for kids with behavioral health needs.

While some clients and parents say the program was a helpful experience, others feel the services did not meet expectations. Some mention specifically a lack of communication from the treatment center. Before you choose a treatment program, it’s always a good idea to contact the facility and get a good sense of their program directly from their staff.

I would say applewood helped me in some ways making me realize how short time is before I went to Applewood, I was in DYS up in Dayton and I was transferred to Applewood. Some of the staff at the time were very helping and understanding, but on the other hand, there was also some other staff that wasn’t understanding and wasn’t helpful. I was in Applewood in 2023. I was there for about a few months. I’m not sure why I got transferred to Applewood in Cleveland because I was all the way up in Dayton in a juvenile prison usually Apple Wood is for children that has mental health issues and thinking about harming themselves which did not relate to me yes I did have some mental health issues with depression and anxiety so I didn’t need help with my mental health issues I needed help realizing and waking back up from reality. All I remember when I was an Applewood was most of the girls. There were very suicidal and tried to harm their selves. There was multiple times where staff had to restrain girls there is this one time where this other girl tried to catch the whole Applewood cottage on fire and all of us girls have to go into the other building. There is also times where we got our food portion. If somebody asked for extra food they would declined it We could always get extra fruit, but never in my life was I ever that scrawny I came out of Applewood weigh as 120 pounds when my family seen me for the first time in months, they thought I was sick they never gave us the right nutrition and then this is what catches me off about Apple what is me and the other DYS girl got her blood in numerous times which there was a nurse room, but they always took our blood in the laundry room on top of the washer and dryer or the cafeteria table I mean, tell me how unprofessional that is, I felt like I was trapped, and I felt like I was not seen. I have flashbacks to when I was there to this day. Remember telling them that I had a fish and seafood allergy we had lunch one day and we had fish and one of the staff told me to get over it and pop a Adderall and I’ll be fine when in reality if I would have ate that fish I would have severely hyped up and a severe rash and possibly have had A swollen throat they never took most of the girls serious. They don’t care about people‘s well-being, except some staff this place should be shut down. It has scarred me.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

I was here as an adolescent, if able to place two reviews of stars one being negative zero, I'd place them here for this facility. They have small quarters for a large number of girls. Although they are on two separate floors i.e. upstairs and downstairs of a cottage style home, for the bedroom arrangements its small in square ft. for what they believed was in our best interest, yet all it did was cause more hostility within the unit and more frustration. When I was there, the staff were super hands on when it came to restraining us to the point some of the girls would have bruising and no one would bat an eye, as it was always misconstrued to they were acting out and were going to be a threat to the unit we had to use excessive force, when in reality that wasn't the case. Yet they compensated for this environmental turmoil by going all out for us on holidays.
