8/29 - still no working phone in my mom’s room. They refuse to transfer her to a room with a working phone or put a working phone in the room. Reign/Rain on 7th floor attitude is despicable! Not welcoming or helpful compared to other nurses at the nurses station. I pray for the day my mom leaves this hospital and placed in a memory care facility. Update : Since they had my review removed. And still another day without a working room phone for my mom. I’ve spoken to SEVERAL people in regards to this matter and still no phone. Either get a working line or transfer her to a different room with a WORKING PHONE! Read below for the rest of the issues. Worst hospital ever! First off, thanks to the couple nurses and the one or two caregivers that look out for my mom and take care of her. Thanks to Beverly, Marianne, Veronica and Nancy. Most of the caregivers in her room just sits there and do absolutely NOTHING, my mom would be sitting in urine in a dark room and they won’t check her… No one ever gives her water but the caregivers are all sitting with their water bottle. Her lips are always dry and cracked till skin is hanging off because she’s dehydrated and no one will even put a bit of lip balm or even Vaseline on her lips. Found a MOLDED sandwich in my mom’s room that she was about to eat!!!!! My mom has dementia they should be constantly checking her room to make sure there is nothing harmful around. My mom was admitted with a new iPhone I bought her and every time I go and ask for it they can’t find it. I was told it was there in a drawer at the nurses station after I left. Went back and again no one could find it. They are always giving me the run around. Now her room phone has not been working for almost 3 weeks and I can’t talk to her when I want to. I have to call and speak to 3 different people before getting to talk to her. I was told 3 weeks ago her phone in the room should be working the next day. Called today and still not working! Spoke to the rudest nurse on the 7th floor just now who can’t comprehend basic English. I’ve been trying to tell her the phone isn’t working you cannot transfer me and she still transferred me in the middle of me talking to her. She was very dismissive and not helpful plus a bit rude. She hung up and now I’m calling again and she won’t pick up the phone. The phone just rings out. This is so not fair! I try to call my mom pretty much everyday because in her condition any day now she won’t remember who I am so I try to call her as much as possible since I live out of state. I’m the only family member that’s there for her and they are making it difficult for me to talk to her. Unacceptable!!! Incompetent case worker who refuses to help with my mom’s situation. I believe her name is Tiffany! She is never around! Spoke to another case worker who said they’ll call me back and never did!! My mom been in this hospital since October 2024 and it’s August 2025. Still no help or any lead to help get her Medicaid so she can be placed in a home for memory care. Case worker never calls me back! Always saying there is no other option so she has to live in the hospital. Are you kidding me! Do not let your loved ones go here! Read other reviews. If you care about them keep them away from this place!

After miserable treatment at the pineville Atrium ED, we then experienced same if not worse treatment for our 90 yo mom at Atrium blythe blvd. She was finally admitted to 3rd fl of Mercy. We were very pleased with her care there although we did experience the skin check from head to toe that others remarked about. Dr L was fantastic. The team working with him was as well. My mom improved significantly and was transferred to Atrium’s Home Hospital. One question arose when she arrived home she was supposedly given Rim Ron an antidepressant but when we pressed for answers about what dr prescribed we were told Dr Menstch (sp) but when the issue of uninformed consent was mentioned, suddenly that was a mistake she was not given the prescription after all. Upon our checking on the antidepressant side effects it stated not for low blood pressure patients, something my mom has always had. Hmmm? Trust was further violated when a ruthless, hostile, and beligerant team descended to force mom back to Mercy. We had important vital information to give the team, but were immediately treated with hostility and arrogance. While mom’s vitals were taken before she left, she was determined not to be experiencing medical emergency or distress. Mom was removed against our wishes and while we have had several phone calls asking for info every telephone number we were given to call about mom’s readmit was met with “your call cannot be completed as dialed please hang up check the number and try again”. Our faith and trust has been completely destroyed. Questions remain about Elderly medicare patients and the care they receive in our community. Our 90 yo mother remains a hostage. For God only knows why, after hearing quotes that I did not say about my willingness to act as a caregiver to my mom etc. etc. etc and being honest and forceful, my mom was returned home at 1:30 pm. Today. We will go to a trusted concierge doctor for her and for our family from here on out.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive way of stimulating the brain in order to help with symptoms of depression. TMS uses elecromagnetic coils to deliver magnetic pulses to the brain, which can improve a patient's mood and ease depression. It's often used when other depression treatments haven't worked.

I was referred to your emergency department by another physician due to a sudden and alarming loss of vision in one eye. Upon arrival, I was admitted to the ER and remained there for three full days on a gurney, waiting for an inpatient room to become available. During this time, basic hygiene and comfort needs were not met—there was only one shared restroom for over 20 patients, there were no windows or access to even see outside of the hospital, and despite multiple requests, I was never allowed access to a shower. Over the course of those three days, I received only one meal, which was served in a to-go container and was of extremely poor quality. While I have not yet received the itemized bill, I want to be absolutely clear: I intend to dispute any charges that do not accurately reflect the care received, especially those associated with this extended and inadequate ER stay. On the evening of the fourth day, I was finally moved to an inpatient room. Upon arrival, I was immediately instructed to undress so staff could inspect for sores. As a 37-year-old man in good health, I found it highly inappropriate when two female nurses began inspecting my body, including my feet, pulling my toes apart to document dead skin. This was never properly explained and felt unnecessarily invasive. Shortly thereafter, a nurse from the contagious disease unit entered my room and began asking about stomach pain—a symptom I never reported or experienced. After several minutes of questioning, she abruptly realized she was in the wrong room and left without further comment. I understand how patient satisfaction surveys are used and that excellent staff may be unfairly impacted by negative feedback. I want to acknowledge that some members of your staff were professional and compassionate, and their efforts did not go unnoticed. However, the overall experience—particularly in the ER and during the initial phase of my inpatient stay—was substandard and unacceptable. Frankly, the conditions and mismanagement I encountered were more reflective of a second-world facility than of a modern healthcare institution.

This building should be condemned. It's so disgusting, there is zero room for patients. My husband was admitted to the hospital on Monday, it's currently Wednesday and he is still in the ER/ADTU waiting on a bed. No one has talked to us about getting a room other than being told over and over that he is a high priority for a room. I find it hard to believe there have been zero discharges for 3 days. It's absolutely disgusting - he can't even take a shower and he has to share a bathroom with the Triage and ADTU which is a minimum of 20 other patients! Also where he is staying in ADTU, his bed is a gurney. So it is smaller/thinner than the typical hospital bed, and can't be adjusted with a remote so he needs to ask staff to adjust his bed when he wants to sit up or lay down. He's expected to stay here until at least Friday, so 5 days in this deplorable condition. I get hospitals aren't meant to be comfortable but to provide treatment of care, however it is disgusting to know they're billing us/insurance the same as if we were in a private room with a bathroom and shower.

I had a stroke in March, went back home on June 27. Early morning on June 28 as I was walking using my walker had a bad fall. I ended up at Mercy. Everyone was great until I got to my room. I didn’t have anything broken but it was very difficult to get to the bathroom. They would not even put a diaper on me, the mess was in my bed. It was cleaned in a timely matter but if I had a diaper there would not have been a mess. To me this is just nasty.

I can’t speak highly enough of the staff here! My husband was seen for spinal surgery and spent three days afterwards. From the cafeteria staff to the doctors/nurses, we were very impressed by the level of care provided.

My dad had a right knee replacement yesterday morning. Since then he has been in the care of the 7th floor staff at Mercy. They have been just that: merciful and kind! Almost all the staff where very attentive to my dad, cared for him like a family friend and were diligent and professional through a painful post surgical recovery! They treated us all well as we stayed with him continuously (and still are)! Thank you! I wish every Atrium location was this good!

Response from the owner
Karim Lokas, your wonderful feedback and rating mean a lot to us.
