Clayton Sponhaltz, LCDC, NCAC I, SAP, acquired the Substance Abuse Professionals practice in 2024, keeping the practice’s core services of confidential assessments for individuals in San Antonia, TX, experiencing substance abuse.

Since the practice was acquired by Clayton Sponhaltz, LCDC, NCAC I, SAP, Sponhaltz has worked with Thompson to help individuals and families navigate their issues with substance abuse. The professionals at this center will treat you with integrity, respect, and care.

They are trained in providing addiction treatment and DOT compliance policies in a safe environment. Not to mention the practice has an extensive network of education and treatment providers. So, you can expect the professionals overseeing your case to be able to refer you to the additional services you may need to recover.

Certified DOT Regulated Testing and Counseling

For more than 25 years, the Substance Abuse Professionals practice has specialized in helping individuals working in all DOT-regulated industries with DOT evaluations, DWI evaluations, and individual and family counseling.

At this practice, you can expect case management and help with DOT and non-DOT SAP return to duty evaluations that you can secure virtually using the practice’s telehealth services. Other services on offer include EAP services, coaching, and education.

And if you ever need places to visit that can help you with your recovery, the practice is near locations like Phil Hardberger Park, Olmos Basin Park, and the San Antonio Zoo. Not all of these places will help everyone gain a recovery mindset or help with better mindfulness, but they might be worth a visit if you are joining the practice for evaluations.

I had many counseling sessions with Clayton both in individual sessions and group sessions. Clayton has 20 plus years of sobriety so he has walked the walk and doesn’t just talk the talk. Clayton understands your troubles and struggles of addiction and sobriety. Sobriety and recovery is not easy. He knows through experience what works and what does not and he is going to tell you if your strategy is going to work or not. Clayton will also have great ideas on how to improve your strategy of sobriety and recovery. Clayton offers you different sobriety and recovery plans. He gives you the textbook ways, the religious way, and through his experience way to sobriety and to remain drug and alcohol free. It’s not always what we want to hear. I would recommend Clayton to others if you struggle with addiction and staying sober.

Clayton is a great counselor and a very good person. He listens to you and what is going on - a rare thing for some of the counselors I have encountered. He uses both his own experience and his training to identify treatment paths - he has a lot of knowledge. And he is kind enough to hold you accountable - he makes sure you are the driving force behind your therapeutic decisions. Thank you, Clayton.
