About Greenhouse Treatment Center

Something unique about Greenhouse Treatment Center is that they offer biosound therapy. This includes sitting in a vibrating chair while listening to music, going through guided imagery, or going through biofeedback therapy to find deep relaxation. This helps to soothe your nervous system and reduce anxiety levels. This sense of calm can make it easier for you to follow the medical advice you get during treatment and avoid relapse.

One of the best things about Greenhouse Treatment Center is their facilities. The location used to be a spa and they prioritized maintaining its feeling of tranquility when repurposing the space. You’ll stay in a hotel like bedroom with a private bathroom, and you’ll have access to three meals a day prepared by the in-house chef. They’ve carefully designed several gathering areas for group sessions. Each one facilitates community building and safe vulnerability.

In between treatment sessions you can relax or swim in their indoor or outdoor pools, meditate in one of the mindfulness spaces, or grab a delicious snack from the cafeteria. They also have wellness activities like yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and a private gym for you to use.

If I could put a negative number, I would. This place is completely covered in BLACK AND PINK MOLD! They are negligent with the upkeep of the facility. They nursing staff have no problem giving you someone else's prescribed medication and have no problem NOT giving you your prescribed medication. They amazingly can make your own medications disappear and play stupid when you go to get them, passing the responsibility buck. They bill insurance for medications they do not provided you, even with a prescription you are required to have. 4 women, myself included, in a 12 hour time period, all were taken to ER for respiratory issue steming from the ammonia and mold. This place is TRASH TRASH TRASH. This place will make you want to relapse. THERE IS MOLD EVERYWHERE AND SMELLS LIKE CAT URINE! EVERYONE THERE WAS SICK AND WEARING MASKS! ROACHES EVERYWHERE! The carpet is disgusting with stains all over. Furniture is stained, torn, and falling to pieces. There was always clothes missing, and will hold your belongings and not give it back when you leave. The whole 3 weeks I stayed the sauna jacuzzi and both pools were closed. My therapist never once even asked how I was doing. They messed up on someone’s meds and her blood pressure dropped to 56 and all they wanted was a drug test. She could’ve DIED. We don’t get the medical attention that we need. The nurse gave a patient someone else’s medication which is illegal. They are CORRUPT. Staff are liars, unprofessional, disrespectful, and they don’t care about anyone but themselves. They kick you out for false accusations. I was in there for 3 weeks. Worst experience of my LIFE. The day after I got off detox they drug tested me and I was positive fire benzos (they were giving me Valium which is a benzo 2-3 times daily) and Valium can stay in your system for up to 30 days, they threatened to kick me out, sent me to a hospital to get blood work done. I get there and they said they don’t do blood tests for drugs. Delt with this all day, spent the night at the hospital, didn’t get back until 4:30 am. Just for them to tell me it was a false positive after all. Then they accused me of taking a video of an incident with about 8 people getting into it with a nurse (because they weren’t doing their job and was yelling and putting her hand in a girls face.) I was sitting by the girl that took the video. They had proof yet still blamed me. Then there was a creepy guy that wouldn’t leave me and another girl alone. He was following us, starring, even ran his hand down the girls arm. We told about 5 staff members, just for them to turn around and call us BULLYS. I went straight to my room to pack my things after being told I had an hour but I was trying to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. I was packing and on the phone with my mother and a bald tall guy said if I don’t get done within 30 seconds they were gonna call the cops. They were so disrespectful to me and tried to grab my bags that weren’t finished packed up and so I tried to grab it back and he yelled call 911. This place is the WORST. Staff doesn’t give a crap about you they are just there because it’s a job and they can get away with treating us like crap because it’s a rehab full of drug addicts and alcoholics. BUT WE WENT THERE TO GET SOBER AND GET HELP. Every day I heard people yelling how much they hated this place. I left that place worse than I was when I first got there. My anxiety and depression has gotten worse. Please for the love of god STAY AWAY!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. In the Residential Treatment (RT) program, the client receives 24/7 supervision. The Greenhouse staff ensures client safety while the client attends individual therapy sessions, addiction therapy groups, and participates in other therapeutic activities.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Instensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. The IOP program client requires less supervision than the PHP client, but is committed to a structured schedule requiring onsite participation in Greenhouse programs and therapy 3-7 days per week in treatment blocks of a minimum of 3 hours in duration. The IOP client’s objective is refining plans for reintegrating into society and preparing for the transition to wellness and recovery.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA). Greenhouse incorporates 12-Step recovery principles into their co-occurring treatment and encourage clients to attend optional 12-Step meetings as a useful supplement to Embracing Change: Recovery for Life. As a component in this curriculum, they include a workbook section that focuses on 12-Step principles.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Not every client requires medically supervised detox. On arrival, Greenhouse medical staff assesses the client for current substance use, length of abuse, severity of physical dependence on a drug or drugs, and anticipated physical withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Since everyone close to the client is touched by the addiction, Greenhouse Outpatient encourages family involvement (spouses, partners, children, and loved ones) as a component of each client’s treatment plan. Encouragement from family/loved ones is beneficial and positively impacts recovery. With the client’s consent, if family members (and others essential in the recovery process) agree to participate, family therapy sessions will be held periodically throughout treatment. Family therapy sessions will be held onsite or via conference call, and frequency will be determined according to the client’s individualized treatment plan.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I cannot thank the team at Greenhouse enough, but especially my therapist, Charmane. Without her guidance, compassion, and dedication, I truly don’t believe I would have made it through this program. She has a gift for seeing people for who they really are and helping them find strength even in their lowest moments. Charmane challenged me in ways I needed, but always with kindness and genuine care, and I will be forever grateful. I also want to give a huge thank you to Arturo for his ongoing support—your consistency and encouragement meant so much throughout this journey. And to Jason, Phil, and Audra, thank you for always being there and for the many ways you each supported me along the way. This program has changed my life, and it’s because of the incredible people here who go above and beyond every single day. Vanessa Canelle

Greenhouse arranged transportation for me to fly to Texas. Multiple times, we verified my insurance information. I was told it was good. I informed them that eventually I’d need to elect cobra coverage but wasn’t sure what day, and that it was already set up-I just needed to place payment. They assured me that on their end and from what they could see, my coverage was valid and active. They kicked me out on the 5th day of treatment. They returned to me my sopping wet laundry (it had been in the wash at the time) which they also shredded to pieces and cut up into tatters. I’m homeless and that’s all I’ve got. They claim that transfers are offered when you’re discharged, I was offered no such assistance. The case manager, Z, clearly took a lot of pleasure in telling me I was leaving, and at no point did he say a word about anything besides ‘you’re discharged’. Feeling railroaded and recognizing that this isn’t how AAC treats its clients on ‘intervention’, I felt something fishy was up and called 911. While officers were there, Z was kind enough to say that even though I declined a transfer (something I was clearly NOT in a position to do and hadn’t done!) he would assist me. He called 2 places which had no availability. The officers left, so the 3rd place, he personally texted ‘his friend Michael’ who would ‘speed things up’ which again felt dishonest but you can’t run around correcting everything ‘they’ do so I just observed. He gave me the number to call, and walked me back over to the lobby like his job is now completed-except no? It’s definitely still not! This Michael character kept me on the phone too long. He drew everything out and had little stories for everything. It was at 4:02 that he informed me-for the first time-that my insurance termed on the 1st and the office that handles it closed 2 minutes ago. He offered me out of pocket cost at $1,000 but when I said I’d pay it, he danced around the issue. I asked to speak to ‘someone who isn’t Z’s buddy’ and he feigned ignorance. ‘What’s a z?’ That’s a good question, what is a z?? I told him Z was the guy who connected us, who had texted you, and who had told me you, Michael, were his friend and would help this process along. Didn’t ring a bell. These aren’t the brightest bulbs, or maybe they’re just hateful and cruel. I feel that I was intentionally dragged along until the office closed on purpose. I feel I was kicked out without insurance, healthcare, an ID or money on purpose. I feel that the status of my coverage was lied about rather than erroneously reported on. I feel that my laundry was trashed. These are either some of the most hateful creatures of the night, or some of the most wholly incapable and incompetent ones. Either way I’d stay away unfortunately.

I would not recommend this rehab. I was wrongfully discharged despite promises of support, and my belongings were packed into garbage bags with no concern for my well-being. They even asked me to film a promotional video, yet in my experience they care more about money than truly helping people in recovery.
