About High Watch Recovery

High Watch Recovery is an addiction and mental health treatment facility located in Kent, Connecticut. When it was established in 1939, this clinic became the world’s very first 12-step treatment center. Now, the facility strives to provide customized support to patients who are in need of addiction treatment, mental health services, or help with co-occurring disorders.

High Watch Recovery accepts Aetna, Ameriben, Cigna, UMR, United, Meritain, Connecticare and many others. The clinic also accepts commercial health insurance.

The facility helps with interventions, detox services, residential programs and online IOP assistance. The clinic also has a unique equine assisted learning program, which involves the use of horses to promote recovery. The program consists of four three hour sessions where patients are encouraged to interact and groom the horses as they learn more about vulnerability, fear, depression, grief and other tough emotions.

One noteworthy accomplishment is that High Watch Recovery was awarded Sacred Heart University’s “Clinical Site of the Year” award in 2023. This achievement was designed to recognize the clinic for its commitment to educating Physician Assistant Students in the Healthcare industry.

Another great aspect of this program is the impact it has on the overall quality of life of former patients. According to the clinic, 95% of patients who successfully complete Extended Care leave the facility more confident and feeling accomplished. This truth is also reflected in feedback from former patients. The facility has a very high overall rating. Many former patients say that the facility is life changing and has a wonderful staff.

In 2020, my child's mother was admitted to the facility with noticeable bruises all over her face and arms. She admitted during the intake that she'd been beaten repeatedly over the years by her husband. She'd also shared that her husband threatened to kill her in front of her children."Why are you doing that to Mommy?" the mother reported the child had said to her. While the mother was in rehab, my child still had visitation with the stepfather. Unfortunately, neither I nor our child knew the extent of domestic violence, and had we, we never would have allowed the child to return for visits. It wasn't until 2022 that the intake report was presented in court, but it was then denied by the mother, saying she didn't have a black eye or any bruises even though the Highwatch facility noted them in their report and asked her if she needed first aid.By then, all the evidence had been removed and downplayed as merely "exaggeration."By law, facilities that are aware of child abuse MUST report these incidents to the state. This never happened.Imagine if they had protected the children as much as the patient, how much better off these children would be. It's okay, it's in the documentary.

This place is amazing. The staff is beyond incredible. They make you feel like family. They truly care for you. I stayed for 95 days. Best thing I ever did. Oh and you eat like a king lol some of the best food ever and the bakery is out of this world. In all seriousness this place is an amazing place to get help. I felt welcomed by all the other guests as well. Everyone is there for the same reason so its very easy to get along and you build a family forever . I've been out for over 6 months now and I still talk to at least 15 of the guys. Highly recommend. In fact I have already recommend it to a few people. And i met some people here in bennington vt where I go to AA that went to h.w back in the day. Can't wait to go back for a prime rib dinner soon..

Highwatch provided the tough love that I needed to start my recovery. It is a very structured program that shows you the path to recovery...and they start the journey with you. I highly recommend Highwatch to those seeking recovery from drugs and alcohol.

Very unimpressed with the misconduct between employees and patients. They tell patients not to fraternize but they do it themselves. See how much staff has married a once patient. This place needs help.

I am a two time alum of High Watch and I owe the place so much. The first time I went in July 2023 was the first time I ever tried to get sober - I was terrified to enter treatment, didn’t want the help, was angry and frankly wasn’t ready to get sober. High Watch nonetheless showed me so much love, support and encouragement during my 28 day stay, and in the months following my discharge. They met me where I was and didn’t give up trying to help me. This stay at High Watch was the first time in my life I felt like I belonged somewhere. I came back 6 months later in February 2024 and this time stayed for 4.5 months - completed the regular 28 day program and also the 3 month extended guest program. I am still sober today. If it hadn’t been for my extremely positive experience during round 1, I would never have returned. The staff at High Watch genuinely care about every single guest there, the therapists and group sessions are great, and the campus is beautiful. There are quite a lot of rules / a rigid daily schedule, which was sometimes tough but for me I needed this kind of structure. What’s also cool is that so many (I think the majority) of staff members are in recovery themselves and many have gone through High Watch so they get what it’s like to be in treatment and how hard it is, especially at the beginning. High Watch also helps set you up with plans after your discharge and have great connections with sober livings and IOPs to help with your aftercare plans. For what it’s worth, the food is also amazing 😊

Great food, longest lasting pens ever, great mix of weather, though I prefer a late spring/early summer visit. Great literature. Met my girlfriend of 4 years via HW. I waited the full reccomended 1 year of no relationships, her not so much, but she slid in my DMs. Place saved my life. Almost 6 years

Dont return calls. Made a meeting with anne corey never followed through and told (patient ) i mean vacationer idìdnt call. Have email showing confirmation. Unqualified staff. Just a luxury vacation. No after care support called for support in crisis phone only rings no voicemail no answering machine. Next day call back first question from high watch was about insurance. No regard of the crisis with no support from high watch personal. What they teach in first 30 days they repeat in 60 days and the same at 90 days and every one gets a participant award shining little coin ohh what a good job. What a laugh 😃

I went here in January 2023. I was there for about a year- between the rehab and the sober living, Eden Hill. It wasn’t a good experience. Rehab can be jarring, but the unprofessionalism of the staff and the lack of care made me feel unsupported. I saw staff members share explicit photos with each other at the beginning of my stay. Making bracelets and reading the big book is kind of all there is to do. I was later accused of something my roommate did. Because the nature of the patients I boarded with there was gossip that was often collaborated with by the staff. This was my experience. I wish I had a choice to go somewhere else but at the time I did not.

A little over 14 years ago I was a broken man, literally dying. High Watch and its amazing staff taught me how to live a life without alcohol and drugs and gave me all the tools to become the person I am today. Sober for over 14 years straight!

Been to Highwatch as a person seeking recovery. It’s laughable to suggest an individual struggling with a lifelong addiction problem will be helped by a 28 day period of abstinence from their drug of choice. Great food and a high end country club atmosphere has nothing to do with treatment for a problem that will kill you if not taken seriously. Bill Wilson would be ashamed. Complete and utter hogwash!!

Consider Highwatch Recovery at your own risk. There are NO email addresses on their website to contact people, but they have a button to leave a review on Google (presumably for compliments). That is pathetic. Anyone effected by addiction knows its a family disease. The inability to communicate with staff or qualifiers denies that reality. Focus is one thing....myopic thought processes are another.
