Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Program in Missouri
The facility was conveniently located near I-55 and I-255. It was four miles from Jefferson Barracks Park, which sits on a bluff with magnificent views of the Mississippi River. The park is home to a National Cemetery, the Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum, and other historical museums.
Common areas of focus during treatment in the intensive outpatient program (IOP) were severe depression, personality disorders, overwhelming anxiety, PTSD, and co-occurring substance use and misuse. Clients began with a full assessment by a board certified psychiatrist who helped determine the best level of care and whether a client needed medication.
Welcoming Addiction Treatment for All
Treatment plans were tailored to each individual’s needs. They served clients 18 and over. All were welcome. They offered custom programs that addressed the unique needs and experiences of individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
The environment was supportive, and treatment was led by therapists who were themselves members of the LGBTQ+ community. Treatment included substance misuse education, group, and individual counseling.
The nice thing about the IOP was the flexibility. Clients could attend treatment but were able to live at home and continue with their school or work commitments. Clients learned better coping strategies and relapse prevention techniques to ensure successful long term sobriety.
The program emphasized group therapy sessions as a way to help clients understand that they weren’t alone in their experiences. Group therapy also fostered peer support. Evidence based treatments such as cognitive behavioral (CBT) and dialectical behavior (DBT) therapies were used to treat both substance use and co-occurring mental health issues.

Levels of Care
Treatments
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
Clinical Services
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
