I have been to multiple different programs, none of which worked EXCEPT Soba, not only is the staff the absolute best, but they truly care. This is not one of those places where you’re surrounded by people who have no idea what they’re talking about, these people have been there done that, so they speak from experience. They gave me a true understanding of the 12-steps, and I can happily say I have over 2 years of sobriety. Thank y’all for everything you did for me.

One year and one day ago I walked through Soba's doors and took back control of my life. Yes, they saved my life, but they did so much more than that! They started me on a healing path for my mind, body, and soul. 24 hour care for physical health, access to therapists and psychiatrists, yoga, meditation, and equally important: caring individuals to guide me through this journey. Their staff isn't just there to collect a paycheck. They have all been where I have been, survived it, and demonstrate unmatched passion in truly helping people to fight this disease. The staff is second to none. Besides the amazing care I received, I was also elated to be able to conduct personal business whenever the need arised. I had my phone, tablet, and laptop 24/7. This allowed me to stay in touch with work, pay bills, and update my family. It ensured a smooth and comfortable transition back home when my treatment was completed. Not only do I owe my life to Soba, but I owe my quality of life to them as well. One year sober down and a new life worth living! From the bottom of my heart, thank you Soba!! UPDATE: 3 years sober! It works if you work it! Keep going

Accepted Insurance

SOBA Mesa works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Many clients who enroll in an outpatient rehab program are exiting intensive inpatient care and no longer require such high-level clinical supervision. Outpatient programs typically follow a step-down structure, with treatment frequency and intensity decreasing as clients progress in their recovery journey. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care are the most time-intensive and are designed primarily for clients who have just left inpatient treatment or who are at an elevated risk of relapse.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy helps reduce the discomfort of detox and reduces cravings during drug rehab in Arizona. It helps you navigate nutrition, teaching you how to plan and prepare meals that meet your nutritional needs.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Some nicotine replacement therapy options are available over the counter. Others require a prescription from your doctor. Common forms in Arizona include nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges. Quit smoking medications are also available.

Let me start by saying that SOBA saved my life. I had a severe problem with drug abuse, and I was being killed by my own addiction. When I was part of their program, I was able to turn my life around, and today I can proudly say that I'm sober. Thank you!

I'm beyond impressed by SOBA Mesa! I watched helplessly as my son continued to go to treatment centers across the country and continued to relapse over the past 6 years systematically. It became our new norm. The attention to detail in his therapy plan, well trained compassionate staff, and the open invitation for his family to be involved was so vital. Thank you for helping my son get to a point where he can pick up the torch again in his own life. The cycle was broken at SOBA. Im forever grateful to his team!

Do NOT detox here. You will wish you went somewhere else. I will list the reasons below: 1. The living conditions are poor. At the very best case your room will have 2 beds. A lot of the rooms have 3 beds. If you are going through withdrawals, having other people in the room making noise at night is very uncomfortable. The bathrooms are disgusting and infrequently cleaned. Hot water is sparse. The sinks don’t even have handles. 2. It is loud. The doors to the rooms face the small, crowded common area. Again, if you are going through withdrawals, hearing all of residents making noise is very uncomfortable. 3. The food is awful. Every meal is something in a casserole dish and tastes like every ingredient is out of a box or can. Not that this has to do with the quality of the food, but more to the overall conditions, a lot of the food is served in plastic Tupperware bowls. 4. The staff does not communicate. If you tell the doctor something, the nurse will be surprised when you tell her the next day. If you request something from the ops staff, other ops staff will have no idea about it the next day. They were also completely unresponsive when it came to medical leave paperwork. 5. It is confined. They advertise nice, outdoor common areas. But they are only accessible every so often for 15 minutes at a time. The staff will announce “okay I’m going to take them out” as if the patients are dogs. The only positive things I can is that the nursing staff is fantastic. I think the only people that care about the patients are the nurses and doctors. Overall, this place is focused on maximizing profit by cramming as many people in as possible and providing sub-par, low cost food and living conditions. They market themselves as a comfortable retreat for recovery, and they will swear it up and down when they try to convince you to check in, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Response from the owner

This place honestly saved my life. The effort and compassion from the staff and especially the Veteran contact, Drake put in so much effort to help me and I failed the first time. They welcomed me back without hesitation. The encouragement I received is probably the only reason I’m alive. No exaggeration. They helped me even though I was an ass… I got better. Today I actually believe I have a chance at a life. Hell I even run an AA group. If you are looking for people who understand what you’re going through and actually give a damn, you’ll find them here. Thank you JJ, Bruce, Tony, Rebecca, and all the people who I can’t remember.

If I could give 100 stars I would, I have been here a couple weeks, every is so genuine and pleasant, I wish I could live here, it’s what I would picture heaven to be, all the staff has been so fantastic. At first I was hesitant to come in, I wasn’t aware that healthcare would cover something like this and FMLA will keep my position for when I am feeling whole, I have never thought there was people like this in the same situation as me, I felt so alone in my addiction until I walked into the doors. The picture is of my intake and two weeks into my treatment, check it out for yourself, live laugh and love is available, if I could do it after 20 plus years of everyday chasing the dragon then you can. There are more people out there who care about you then you would ever imagined

Response from the owner
James, thank you so much for this incredible review! Your words truly mean the world to us. We’re honored to be part of your journey and grateful that you trusted us with such a big step. Hearing that you felt seen, supported, and cared for here is exactly why we do what we do. We’re so proud of the work you’ve done. Keep going! You’ve got a whole community behind you!!

This place is the place to go if you want to be treated with respect while in detox. Every staff member is a 10/10 and the facility feels like your living in a big home you always wanted for yourself. You are allowed to work, have your phone, and not be subjected to “lock down hours” Oh! And let me mention the food, steak, gyros, tacos, fettuccine Alfredo….the list goes on and on. They have truly taken a new approach to detox and what it can look like - I was so blessed to be a part of it and being able to be connected with the outside world. I was on vacation getting better I was not in detox this is how they make you feel. If you are looking for detox this is THE place to go. Please don’t for yourself, your loved ones, and those you will help along the way. #sobasober

Thank you so much for the kind review Josh! It truly means a lot. All of us here at Soba do our absolute best to treat every client with the same care and respect we would give our own family.
